mine kept stealing the gas off me, even when i wanted it to help me through a contraction- he was acting like he was at a party and it was getting passed around iykwim?
then he passed out diaganolly across the bed from the gas, and snored for 4 hours.
the only annoying thing my dh did was when we were filling the pool he kept going on with it even though i desperatly want him to rub my back!
so i told him. im more important then the kettle when im having a contraction drop what you are doing and get to me asap.
after that he was perfect.
Was there. Pretty much covers it.
I woke him up at 3am... he went to bed at 11, he didn't have enough sleep, he was tired (I'd been in labour since 7am the previous morning and had no sleep as I was in hospital overnight in labour alone).
He didn't feel too well, he couldn't cope, he had to sit behind me and the midwives kept checking HE was OK.
He agreed to an episiotomy without telling me even though I'd told him they were NOT doing that to me.
He called everyone and told them about DS while I was still in recovery so I didn't get to tell anyone; he told immediate family, my mother told everyone else, I did text a few people but that's not really telling people.
He's an arse. But that's not labour-room specific.
Ryn hon, have you had any birth de-briefing? I know it was so traumatic for you, you'll carry it forever if it's not channelled sweets...
Well he snored. When I was in transition and screaming for an epidural, he yelled at me "No you bl00dy well don't want an epidural!!!!", when all I wanted him to do was rub my back and tell me I can do it. Oh did I mention that he snored :rolleyes:
Several times, Kelly. But I'm more annoyed at him that he's away this weekend and is going to come home tired even though I've had DS all to myself all weekend and now he needs the car on Monday so I have to walk to work after running around like a mad thing all weekend, so I'm just mad at him anyway.

Dh was great when i was in labour. cant think of anything bad he held heat packs, shower heads and massgaed when i wanted etc

With DD1 my DH was asked "would you like to cut the cord?" he is the queasy, fainting type in medical situations, but I still dont think that justifies the statement...
"eeww yuk, NO WAY!"
but aside from that he was an absolute darling....

DS #1 - Neither of us really knew what to expect - DH massaged my hips for about 3 mnutes, then said his hands hurt, sucked on my gas to see what it felt like, and after I had an epi (one of THOSE first time looooooooong labours) - I had the bad shakes and was petrified, whilst he slept in the big comfy chair .....
DD - He kept changing music to his liking so I told him to turn it off - he gave me the most foul look like who did I think I was - this was about transition time .... I was stuck on bed so he could do whatever he wanted apparently and when I did need some touch/help, just looked totally bored with the whole thing!
NOW - he realises the music thing totally out of line :cryinglaugh: and that he wasn't very supportive - even though there.
THIS time we have a doula ;) and I am going to give it my best natural shot ... and he KNOWS he has a job to do now apart from being an observer.
However, I never made him feel bad, until we started talking about upcoming birth and doula discussions - men being men, he took it personally like he had failed me and why hadn't I said anything - oh der, look at his reaction!!! I didn't want to make him feel bad ..
On the way to the hospital, he told me to ring his mum. It was 2am and I was getting contractions every 2 minutes, and I hadnt slept in almost 24 hours. I just wasnt in the mood to speak to her, she isnt my favourite person. I told him no. He said "Why not, can you just ring her, tell her we're going to the hospital" and he kept at it and I really didnt want to talk to her but I did just to make him shut up. I was so annoyed. For some reason it just made me really angry.
Then at the hospital, I wanted to use the water to help with my back pain from the contractions and so I'm sitting there with the water, and making noise through my contractions. All I can see is him sitting there on a chair with a horrible look on his face. He was making his face all scrunched up and I just COULD NOT look at hom because it was SO ANNOYING. I had to close my eyes so I wouldnt have to look at him. I wanted him to massage my back and stuff like that. But all he did was sit on this stupid chair.
He also went out of the room a few times to call him mum to "give her updates" on how I was going. This annoyed me NO END. I didnt want her involved at all but he went and told her "she's x cm's, she just had pethidine" He comes back and says that his mum told him the pethidine is bad and will make me drowsy. I really hated that he did that.
Oh and he kept on moving the gas away. At one point I was using it for every contraction and I was just picking it up when I needed it. But then, he moved it out of my reach and took ages to give it back to me when I needed it. I had to pretty much ask for it each time. He was trying to watch for cues to see when I wanted it, but he didnt really know what to look for so he was always too slow. When I had finished with it, I'd put it down next to me. Straight away, he'd move it. I started screaming at him each time he moved it. He still moved it each time even though I screamed not to. I wanted to kick him in the head.
He fell asleep (very, very briefly as I asked him what the **** he thought he was doing).
He gave me a full rundown on where he'd parked the car and how long he'd got before he'd have to move it. Apparently, my response was, "I don't want to know anything about the goddamn car for ****'s sake, I'm having a friggin baby.
He took photos of the trams from the labour room. He's a train nut but hey, any port in a storm.
And to top it all, when the guy came in to give me the epi, DP said "now you know this might not be pleasant. Sometimes it can take them a few goes to get it in right."
And THEN, he turned into Super Dad when DD arrived and for the next four days all the midwives thought he was God. Which was even more annoying than any of the above!
With DD #1 I was contracting away and DH was blowing up the pool with a hand pump (home water birth) then he starts compaining about how hard it was and how the pump was giving him blisters that were "really painful you know"!!!!!!!!!! until in the end it was taking so long with so much belly aching that i did it myself in between contractions!!
Then when I was 6 cm i wanted to push and so the midwife made me pant through the contractions to stop me pushing and DH started to pant to "help me" but he annoyed the hell out of me blowing in my face until I said "stop panting in my ****ing face"!!!
When I finally got to pushing and was ready to get in the pool DH disapeared! he comes back about 10 minutes later looking like he was off for a day at the beach saying that it took him ages to find his swimmers!!!
And just when you think it couldn't get any worse.....
With DD #2 she had been out of my body about 30 seconds after ages of pushing cos she was posterior, i'm still panting and sweating like a pig and DH goes "well that was easy, she just fell out"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm having a doula next time.:clap:
mine didnt really say anything too bad (not that I can remember anyway!), but I do remember him reaching for the camera a few times, and all I had to do was given him 'the' look, and he'd put it back down.
In my defence...
Well, heck. I don't think there's anything much I can say in my defence. I think the second one was a case of something that sounded all supportive and empowering in my head, translating to something that sounded really, really dumb out loud... :)
I think I just found everything annoying in labour, especially towards the end!
But the things I remember that really really irritated me are:
1. DH telling me not to swear because 'its not very attractive'! This was of course followed by a few choice words!
2. DH kept turning on the TV which drove me mental, I couldn't stand having it on.
3. DH having a lovely chat with the midwife while he was supposed to be rubbing my back and encouraging me!
4. Eating my dinner! I couldn't have eaten it at the time but I was starving after DD was born and could have eaten it then!
I'm pretty sure me kicking back in the rocker/recliner may have peeved meg off a little..
but oh.. it was SOOO comfortable. I considered stealing it at all hours of the morning, but didnt think i could carry it into the lift.
