Yes, I had the gel, then when that didn't move things, had the drip, and had my waters broken, and had a vaginal birth (although needed an episiotomy and forceps delivery), but still vaginal.
Good luck!

I guess things are rolling for you now but if you are still rteading this I think the most important thing is to relax. forget that you are being "induced" and just let your body respond to what is happening as everything they are doing is just an artifical way of what your body would normally do. Do lots of visualisation - imagine your cervix opening and your baby decending.
They will want to monitor you but this does not mean you have to be lying down you can rock, figure eight your hips, squat etc beside the machine. Also you can also ask to have th monitor taken off for 10 min while you and your drip go a walking. Another tip is to go labour in the bathroom. My midwife spent most of my labour on the mats in the bathroom with me (I wouldn't come out as I didn't have to be strapped to the machines in there:-)
Try to steer clear of an epidural if you can as they can increase the chances of c-sec.
I had sudden pre-eclampsia with DS, went for a check up and 3 hrs later was in hossy getting induced. I had ARM and then the drip started 30mins later. My contract started just before the drip was put in but because of the BP and toxemia they had to put the drip in as they wanted labour started ASAP. 5 hrs later (2 hrs pushing as DS got stuck under my pubic bone) DS was born! I had an epiesitomy at the end but that was the only intervention. It did take 4 days for my BP to come down though so be aware it might not come down straight away.
All the best, hope it all goes well.
Haven't got time to write the whole story out, but just popped in to say that yes I had an induced labour with first child and she was born vaginally.
The statistics are scary about induction and c/section, and probably rightly so (I have also had an induced labour that was a c/section) but many factors come into play that you can't count on beforehand so it's not always doom and gloom.
Good luck!
Vaginal birth is most definitely possible after induction. I am another one who had to be induced because my body wouldn't go into labour after my waters broke and after 3 HOURS out she came.
Best of luck Ange and I sincerley hope that you get the vaginal birth you want.
i was induced, and had a vaginal birth quite happily. Had the hormone tape thing inserted in the evening, and was told the obs would be back at 7am the following morning to brake my waters, and insert gel. Never got that far, Aiden arrived at 7.45 the next morning, my waters broke naturally whilst pushing..
no problems at all.
Good luck.
I have had an induction with both my births and both were vaginal deliveries. With my first son I had pain relief, but with Oliver I had nothing.
The best advice my Doula gave me and told me over and over during the labour is to breath my baby out.
Can't wait to see your birth announcement.

I was induced by drip with my DS (I'm a first time mum). I had a vaginal birth, and only gas & air (which didn't really work for me anyway!) for my 10 hour labour. I got through it by sitting in the bath for hours - the hospital had monitors that could be used in the water.
Best of luck - you'll be just fine.
I was induced with Mackenize.
All through my pregnancy I was told that I had a HUGE baby and have to watch her growth. At 39 week I hadnt dropped and she was sitting high. Iwas scheduled in for a csection. I want to have a natural birth and wanted to try first. My ob was all for that which was great.
I arrived at 6,30am. HE came and broke my water .... nothing happened. After 2 hours he put me on a drip (10am) .... nothing happened until 1pm when they has pumped the drip up to 250 then the labour got underway and Mackenzie was born at 3.00pm. I have 1 dose of pathadine right at the end. No stitches and I left the hospital the next day ay 10am to go home.
It was a really positive experience and I really have to thank my lucky stars I had the best midwife for me!
Let us know how you go!

I was induced with 2 of my babies & both were vaginal births (1 very quick)
I have been induced 4 times due to Pre-E and High Bp. all of my deliveries have been vaginal.
What I have found is the labour hurts from the beginning and is more intense from the induction. But be positive and breath though your contractions. you will do great. :D
I was induced with the Gel, within 1hr of having the Gel I was in labour & bubs was born 6hrs later by VB no probs.
Well, I have had 6 children and three were without being induced!
I am RH iso immunised and because of the risk to the baby, have had to be induced, whether it be the drip or by ARM and gel. The first two inductions were both ARM and gels and the contractions took their time to arrive but when they did come, they hit hard and fast! My last induction, was a scheduled induction in Melbourne as baby was very sick. This time they used the gel, but also used the drip against my wishes as the Obs wanted baby out asap, this wasn't the result though and to my mind the drip made the labour twice as long. When baby arrived , she had the cord wrapped tightly around her neck and even though she cried immediately, she stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated.
I regard all my inductions (even though they were medically needed) as unneeded, as I believe my body would have been able to cope naturally. If I was ever to have another baby(not likely though) and the iso immunisation was to start problems happening again, I would hold off until the last minute and try to do it all myself.
Jen, how big was Mackenize when she was born? Was she huge?
You've no doubt got underway now and hoprfully all went well.. But just wanted to add good luck, I had a vaginal birth after being induced...
although she was suctioned out as I was soooo tired I couldn't push... this time round trying for no epidural though... fingers crossed....
I hope your induction went well...
Just thought I would update...
Ange delivered a healthy baby girl late last night, weighing in at 5lbs 14oz :D
The little princess has yet to be named. Ange said all is well but she is exhausted. She can't wait to tell us all about it! :)
Kelly - Mackenzie was born 8 pound 10 oz or 3.5 kilos. Which is not small but not too big (I have child bearing hips lol). The birth was very easy once labour got underway. I was so petrified of the birth and how much it was going to hurt (
They were worried about her head size more than her weight because when I had a scan the sonograher actually put her due date in as the 26th of June instead of the 2nd June. So the computer said that I had a baby with a monstrous head! I was so so worried.
But in the end I had a perfect birth, although I wasnt aware they put you on a drip untill I got there .. I was under the impression that he would just broke my waters ( which he did but it didnt work) so then I went on the drip. I think there are some risks with the drip but I just went along with what my ob thought was best for me afterall I paid him alot of money to look after me and bub. - And the midwife actually delievered my baby anyway he wasnt even there!
Anyway sorry for the rant!

Everyone has pretty much answered your questions. I just wanted to add I had 3 induced labours, all vaginal deliveries. My 2 last labours I had to have 3 lots of prostoglandin gel over 2 days, but both times at the third review was enough to ARM. From then on I had the drip and had a baby after 3 hours of labor.
You'll be fine....goodluck in whatever they decide to do.
Cheers Jacqui
I was induced due to pre eclampsia at 38wks, had ARM (was 1cm already) then a syntocin drip. I had a 3 hour labour, no drugs no tearing.
So yep you can be induced and have a perfectly healthy, uncomplicated vaginal birth.
Good luck!
