OP- Im really not sure about the idea of 40mins, would be nice to get it over with but it would have to be intense!
Misty- That womans experience is what made me ask! Everyone keeps telling me that I will be fast again, if not faster. The midwife who I wanted, kept on saying to us she would take us on, but highly doubted that she would make it in time!! She kept mentioning to DH that she would talk him through it all on the phone!! :omg:
Delphmoon- I think you may miss this labour, it could be a bllink and you miss it event :lol:

1st: 9 hours or less (waters broke but no contractions at 9.30pm. A couple of hours later still no contractions but due to pre eclampsia I had an epidural and syntocin. Baby was born at 6.30am)
2nd: 13 hours (due to obstetric cholestasis I was induced early, given the gel at about 10.30pm and contractions started soon after. My waters were broken around 8am and contractions were in full force so no syntocin needed. Baby was born around 11.30am)
Due to the fact I clearly suck at being pregnant, I'm never going to find out what it would be like to just labour naturally.

DD1, 8lb 3oz, Posterior (No back labour) - 9.5 hours - 8.5 hour of labour, 1 hours of active pushing.
DD2, 9lbs 7oz, Anterior (Severe back labour) - 7.5 hours - 7 hours 20mins of labour, 10 minutes of active pushing
#3 - I am expecting around a 5 hour labour but it being 4 years since my last birth, it could be longer :)
There are many factors which influence the length of labour, including time between pregnancies. Even still other factors can influence this also.
What about if the first labor was induced? Mine was so does that mean it still could be a shorter labor this time? Please say yes lol

When you're being induced BEFORE labour has begun, your body can take a while to be "receptive" of the synthetic hormones which can impact on the time of your labour.:
Some Women just need a little "push" with Synto and it gets the ball rolling.
So I guess depending on whether you are induced or start labour spontaneously this time, it may or may not impact on the length of your labour.
Regardless, you've laboured and dilate previously so assuming that all other factors are "in order" (ie position of baby ect) you may have a shorter labour this time :) No promises though ;)

Well with my first labor I labor spontaneously but it wasn't going anywhere after 3 days of contractions. I was induced and already 4cm.
So does this all point to a quick labor this time ( pre labor jitters now I think lol).

Sounds like your last bub may have been posterior...Do you know if that was the case?
All of my labours have been super short and spontaneous...
dd1 from first contraction to baby 1hour 50minutes
dd2 " " " " " 50 minutes
dd3 (six year gap and told it would be longer) was two hours from first contraction, because this time I laid down and used to slow down the labour!
Apparently I dilate without any contractions and then whe I go into labour it's a few contractions and then transition! (the after pains are pretty horrific though)
Mine got quicker too but my braxton hicks and prelabour started earlier. Not a bad tradeoff in the end though ;)
Both of mine were induced, so I don't know what they should've been like, but labour #2 was about four times as long as #1 - and had more drugs being pumped in to speed it along! :wall:

My active labour was quicker, but pre-labour was longer.
With Brendan my waters broke at 28 weeks and he arrived at 30+1 weeks after just over 18 hours of active labour.
With Tristan I went in to labour at 26 weeks and continued to have contractions until he was born at 34+3 weeks. Active labour was just over 10 hours.
Both were spontaneous deliveries.
1 - 17.5 hours.
2 - 6.5 hours.
3 - 4 hours.
my labours were recorded as
8.10hrs it was over 12hrs but took a few hrs after induction was started for it to really happen
4.5hrs (she was the fastest and easiest)
8hrs these were recorded when labour progressed he was 2days prelabour but nothing much untill 11:30 night before he arrived
my 3rd was techincally my longest (and worse) but he got stuck postieor (turned during labour little bugger)
but i know my besties labours were slightly faster each time
DS 21 hours from waters breaking spontaneous probably would have been shorter had i been more active
DD 16 hours from my plug coming away waters broken by ob 4 hours before she was born
not much different but the first was more painfull probably due to my waters breaking first
yes. dd1 4hrs which included a 1hr pushing. dd2 2.5hrs including a 20 min pushing stage (this is 10 years later mind you:) )
DS1 induced, from 1st contraction took about 16hours
DS2 induced, from 1st contraction took about 4 hours
DD some false starts inc the night before which was 6 hours of irr contractions, took 2.5 hours from 1st cont that day (and show)
