MadB: thanks. Yep I've done some googling lol and said that they have still done it with placentas over a year old. As long as they don't have freezer burn. Just have to defrost them fully before doing and can't defrost then refreeze. I also read that even if it's not in great condition then you can still do it but it may not have as many benefits as it usually does. I could still probably use DDs aswell so will keep it as a back up of I need. But will be using DS's first.
So, I have been doing research into how to do it myself and TBH i am exhausted just reading about it let alone trying to find the time to do it with a brand new baby in da house :rofl:
So far i have only found one person that does it in melbourne. Naturally the fee is quite high...does anyone in melbourne have a recommendation?
Have you asked your mw if she knows anyone, cass? Unfortunately I can't help with Melbourne as mine was done in Perth.
Do you definitely want to be ground to powder? If you're not too grossed out you could always ask your mw to cut it into tablet sized bits and freeze them in ice cube trays. You can just take the frozen bits like a tablet.

...thought to bump this up as you inspired me enough Lulu to book in for my placenta to be encapsulated! i am so happy!! it was something i wanted to do last time, but had other stuff that i had to work through from the PTSD of the first birth, that by the time i was at the end of the pg i didnt wanna do anything but just sit and be pregnant and not think lol. thankfully this time it has been smooth sailing and i started researching all the folks that do it here in melbourne and found a person that does it all for a very reasonable price :dance:

That's great. I hope it works for you. I had stopped taking mine and have since got the flu and feel like I've been hit by a truck from that and a severe lack of sleep due to Miss A feeding hourly for a week now so I started on them again a couple of days ago. They definitely make a big difference.
My bubba had a huge placenta so I got loads of pills. The encapsulator told me to only take 3 weeks worth then keep the rest for when I or bubba are sick. You can also take the rest later to help balance hormones etc.
I didnt get my capsules until a week after the birth as I now live regionally, so I started to feel really down and emotional towards the end of the week. I also had to deal with my partner going away for a week on the fourth week which made that third week a mess, as he was home with me til then, it was a last minute trip I didnt know about (we planned it so he wouldnt have to go away again for a bit after the birth) and my first week to have to handle getting kids to school/bubba/etc. But by the fourth week and into the fifth I felt that I was starting to think straight, see more of the positives and be positive. I started to feel myself coming back. Nothing worse than feeling like you've regressed into places you thought you'd seen the end of! I still have off days but they are getting shorter (only a few hours) and fewer. I get distracted/try to focus with the present and its not a big deal that I thought it was. I truly believe the pills helped me a great deal. I started to feel depressed and was worried where it was headed, but the difference since I was pregnant and after the birth to now is huge.
That's interesting. Mine was huge too and I got almost twice th number of tablets she normally gets. While there is a mention on the bottles that if I want to store them for long term I should freeze them, there was no mention made about only taking them for the first few weeks. Did she give a reason? I know my PND with DD2 really kicked in around the 4 week mark. I got a tincture too that is for long term use, so maybe that's why my pill lady didn't suggest I stop taking them?:
I was taking a stronger dose due to pnd in the past. I think it was 2 in the morning and 2 at lunch. I would say the high iron content might lead to you getting constipated maybe? Dunno, should ask... Wish it would fix my back though, tried to do too much and have ruined my back - sooo painful :( Frustrated!!
My placenta was small so barely lasted 3 weeks. And I did feel they helped its just a shame I had a small placenta.
Wow em... Must have been really small. I still have half a jar left, another three weeks I reckon. She was such a big bubba I think she needed all the food she could get lol.
How big are capsules?
I have a question too.....I know it is in capsule form but is there an after taste?
Mine are a smidge smaller in width but slightly longer than the Blackmores pregnany & breastfeeding gold. I find them really easy to take, but then I don't have a problem with tablets generally.
Lily Dust - there is no aftertaste at all, but I found the actual capsule bit (not what's in it) had a bit of an odd taste when I put it in my mouth to swallow that took a while to get used to. I usually take mine with a swig of something other than water, or take a bite of toast after I've taken it. Its not an unpleasant taste - just strange.
