i wish my DH wasnt in the room now...he's already talkin about next tuesday and getting time off work......:wall:. I said to him tonight, 'i wont be there next tuesday, im having it before then'. He just looked at me .....like 'now is not the time to be like that'.....

Kelly, you answered my next post.....about bubs being in danger. And yep, your right, the second someone says that to me, im there for sure...but in the meantime let us be.....

It's not the babies that get it wrong - the system does. Stick to your guns chick!! Your baby knows exactly when the best time to birth is and he or she has little regard for rigid hospital agendas!!

With your history I'm really surprised that this has even come up for you. I seriously doubt that you will need one and even if you do go a smidge over, you still wont need one.

I doubt it will. In fact, its the second time I have read "Ob bashing" in a couple of days and I still don't understand why people jump to the conclusion that disagreeing with the methodology of the person they spoke to equates to bashing the entire profession.

Most people in the public system will never even see an Ob, so will be talking about Middies and Registrars - not Obs. I know I have never seen an Ob, so all the induction dates I've been given were by midwives. All the intervention arguments I have had were with midwives in hospitals.

No one ever thinks I am midwife bashing though. *shrugs*

Not trying to offend anyone - just something I thought might be an interesting insight.

Hun, let them talk about inductions until the cow's come home. They can't make you. It is ridiculous to even talk about it this early. Why is it that they're quite happy with a baby arriving at 37 weeks, 3 weeks before your EDD, but 2 days after and they're already starting to freak? In your case, they're already setting the scene before the EDD. Term is 37-42 weeks. Your EDD is not a "maximum gestation".
I hope you won't have to worry about any of this and will be busy snuggling your newborn instead.

Preagainpan, sounds like you have a lovely and very sensible OB. They are out there.

What really bugs me is that a lot of women who have been scared into inductions have a similar thing happen to them. This includes my own mother (although she would disagree with me). They have an uncomplicated pregnancy. Then they are induced a few days past their EDD because they're over. Induced labours are different to natural labours and they can have an effect on the baby, too. Now a lot of women feel they need an epidural because they don't get a break from the strong induced contractions. The epidural slows down the labour which in turn creates a need to speed up labour, blablabla. The whole ordeal ends with an exhausted mum, a distressed baby and an emergency c/s. Then the women are told: Thank god we induced when we did, because the baby was very blue when it came out and had we left it for another 12 hours, it would probably not have survived.
I really don't like talking with women who have experienced this. I just really feel for them and I do understand if they believe those nonsense statements. If your baby comes out barely breathing, it makes sense to think that the baby got out in the nick of time. When really, had things progressed naturally, the baby might not have gone into any type of distress at all. I don't like to mention that, though, because I feel like firstly, they will think that I'm a know-it-all. And the thing is that I ddon't criticise those women for what happened, I criticise the system. But I think that is a point that is easily misunderstood.
