For my 1st one it was my one of my husbands old T shirts..then for the next two it was the hospital gown. As other's have said it was comfortable to wear and easy access for the MW and OB.
Congrat's on the girl...I had a girl after two boys and I am loving it. Of course love my boys heaps too!
DS was a c/s so it was a lovely hossie gown.
DD I was wearing a maternity tee and my gym pants as we walked around the block in early labour. Once I got to the hospital, the pants came off and I laboured and delivered in my tee.
Naked in the shower and bath, then hospital gown - it was handy cause it had easy access and didn't matter how messy it got! :lol:

I remember my husband commenting after the birth that he felt bad that "every man and his dog came in while you were getting the epidural and you were almost naked"
I couldn't care less at that point

I remember the midwife at the antenatal classes saying you probably won't feel like wearing clothes when you're in labour & thinking "no way, I'll be covered up the whole time. Needless to say, I was starkers by the first trip to the toilet at home, grudgingly put on the loosest biggest dress I had (no knickers) for the trip to hospital then as soon as I was in the birth room, that dress came straight off & I headed straight for the shower. The midwife hadn't even arrived! I didn't care one little bit.
Im seeing myself spending a lot of time in the shower during labour lol ...:
arrived at the hossy in cruddy shorts (el-cheapies from Bigw LOL) by the time i was 'settled in' i was nude below the waist - i was on the loo for about 3 hrs :o cus it was the only place i could sit how i wanted. then jumped in the bath with just my bra on (and i only just got the shirt i had off LOL) and after DJ was born i was nuddy untill i was stiched up...this time it'll be the middle of winter so i guessumeing i'll be in trackies, thongs and a tank top!
With DD I wore one of DF's T-shirts & trackpants because they were the closest thing on the way out the door on the way to hospy that was loose. The trackies came off not long after getting to the hospital
I wore tracky pants, a breastfeeding singlet (as was my "uniform" in those last few days) & one of DH's tshirts.
I lost the pants fairly early on. Was sooo hot but kept the tops on until DS was born & the midwife took them off me. Said to DH "Couldn't you see how hot I was? Why didn't you take them off me earlier?" I felt like I was sweating buckets but he said I looked normal.
That shower was awesome. & it was even better after the birth:D:

i was in a skirt and singlet (one of my good ones LOL) coz i wasnt prepared haha.
ended up in just a bra and bare bum on all my knees on the bed, coz i was super hot, if BIL hadnt of been there i probably would have had nothing on.
1st birth I wore an old nighty but got irritated with anything on my tummy so just ripped it off.
2nd birth started in big shirt and cycle shorts but after getting into bath i walked around naked.
I usually recommend to my mom’s anything comfortable.
If you having a water birth, crop tops are great and a wrap-around skirt as they are usually great cause while you in bath if it happens to get wet it dries quickly and it's light and you can tie it over the belly (by your breasts) or under the belly and doesn't make you feel so exposed. It's easy to remove if the labour progresses quickly. They are not expressive so if they get ruined it's not a train smash. And if need be it's great as a quick "throw over" if the family all wanna rush in to see baby we could quickly cover mom up.
But this is ONLY a suggestion.
Another idea, mom can buy a white shirt and have friends sign it with inspirational messages for mom and your doula or partner can read one or two messages to you during those intense contractions.
Or a shirt with a baby painted on it over the belly so you are reminded of what your baby could be feeling as you both go through this process...
There's a number of ideas but i feel above all you must feel comfortable!!!!
And any pants if need be - If you have any torn stockings, cut the legs off leaving about 1/3 or 1/4 of the leg and make "disposable pants" from the stockings you probably would have thrown any anyway. Keeping the extra little bit of leg piece helps to hold the pad in place if your waters have broken...and if need be they are easy to just cut off once again if labour happens faster than exspected.
Black singlet and black yoga pants (old ones) each time until things got serious, I am going to wear the same thing again because now I feel like it's lucky!
With DS the black singlet stayed on the entire time although I obviously had to lose the pants when they gave me an epidural because of the catheter.
But with DD they got me into the shower and I didn't get out again till it was time to push so I was naked. I just had to ask DH if I was naked while pushing...he said "yeah..." I just don't remember it clearly! Once DD was born they popped her on my chest and wrapped me up in sheets and blankets quite quickly.
I too wore what i popped on at the time that felt comfy and nothing underneath ....
My labour/birth outfit was hilarious it was a bright Aqua T.Shirt nightie with a picture of a cartoon character of a sexy gangster woman pointing a huge machine gun with the words written above " Secret Agent 66 " :ROFL:
My sister had given it to me years before as a gift as i was born in the year '66 ;)
I found out later my midwives were laughing about it.
I have kept the nightie to give to my DD when older even though it's now a bit shabby but i reckon she will get a laugh out of what i wore when she came into the world and that she laid on it straight after birth !!!
In the birthing room I started off in my street clothes, quickly into my nightie, then ended up with nothing on! I couldn't stand having anything on, even a hosp gown. I just felt so hot and uncomfortable with any clothing on.
No idea what I was wearing on the way to hospital (probably trackies & a shirt or something) but during full on labour I labour in the shower, so I wear nothing. Can't think of anything worse than labouring with clothes on!
Now look, my friends often laugh at me for being overdressed on occasions. I have worn high heeled (chunky, not stilleto, I'm not that impractical) boots on a camping trip! And insisted on having my lippie on before leaving the tent.
So don't be surprised when I say I wore an Elle Macpherson black jersey nightie.
And also don't be surprised when I say I've also worn it to a Mothers Group dinner (it just looks like a black dress) and announced, "hey this is what I wore in labour." Waiter gave me a funny look.
