Ash, thank you for posting your story and congrats for doing such an excellent job of birthing your beautiful boy! That was wonderful to read.
I think I beat you on the word count - my initial birth story that I typed up went for ages and I ended up posting the very edited version as I thought I would send everyone to sleep with the first version - it was way too long!
I can relate to a lot of what you experienced. I also felt kind of embarrassed initially at being so loud while pushing. Another OB who was in another birthing suite at the time actually commented to DH on how loud I was and this really upset me for a while as I felt I had done a bad job or should have handled the pain better. After thinking about it for a bit, I don't care how loud I was, we birthed our babies and it is bloody painful, so fair enough that we made a bit of noise while at it!
I also found my waters breaking the strangest sensation - there was so much there! And everytime I moved or had a contraction all day, more would gush out. And birthing the shoulders really killed me too, as did waiting for a contraction to hit with bub half out - ouch!
I don't really remember how I felt when DD was placed in my arms either, I was just so overwhelmed, and for a while I also wished I had kept my glasses on so I could have seen more, but I probably would not have taken it in anyway, and at the end of the day, all that matters is having your gorgeous little baby finally in your arms!
You certainly should feel proud, accomplished and fulfilled - you have just brought another person into the world and with no drugs - good on you!!
-
That's so amazing! You did an AWESOME job! Congratulations on the birth of lil baby Alex :D
So happy for you!! :happyforyou:
and LOL about your waters, mine broke all over my bed too but we didn't have a matress protector or anything - had to replace the whole matress!
I can't believe the staff commented on how much noise you made! That's so rude! God forbid a labouring woman might yell right? Ugh!
-
Thank you so much everyone for reading -
You are all absolute CHAMPIONS! I could not stop writing....! :cryinglaugh:
Bun - i was worried about the noise, but then i was saying, y'know if they don't soundproof birthing suites that's not my problem! I was just frustrated that it seemed to be such a big deal.
BS - it was actually comments that came from my little brothers but i should have known better and realised they probably misheard or just twisted what my mum had told them. But my mum did have a bit of a joke about it and i felt like it was a bad thing that i had found that the best way to cope. think i was just a bit over emotional the few days after the birth... :P
I think what is so special about the experience is now i can read other people's stories and it brings it all back, and i'll be shivery and teary all over... Nothing compares to that.

You made me cry and laugh and I could almost see you in that birthing suite. And it sounds like Anthony did a great job supporting you.
Again, Congratulations.

-
Aww nadine that's exactly what i wanted to hear. I was hoping i'd be able to write it so that other people could 'see' it... of course mostly myself, but made it good to know that it comes across that way. :)
Anthony was AMAZING!!!

Thank you for sharing your birth story with us. You did a fantastic job and should be so very proud of yourself.
So what if you made noise. Birthing babies hurts, esp when done drug free.
What a great recount you will have for your little man. Be sure to save yourself a copy and print it up.

Wow I just read your story with tears in my eyes. You did SO well. Your partner, what a great support he was for you. How cute is your grandma lol, she must have felt so proud to be in on the birth with you. The pain is incredible, but my god it is well worth it in the end and I'm sure you feel the same way when I say I could do it a million times over, knowing the special bundle you get at the end.

So beautiful! I cried!! You are right, it is such an emotional experience.
