Miss Hitchhiker decided to come on Friday, I was having contractions on Thursday night and they were getting close and painful. Friday morning the contractions were still here after a little sleep. I told DH it will be best to see if the boys could go to their mums early. The boys went to their mums around 11. Mum was here until 1.30 when she started prac, so seeing how much pain I was in, She called up SIL to come over to watch girls or grap them - my car was in the garage so she could take the girls back to dans if needed.
I told DH to "Call the midwife" he didnt know if I was serious or not, LOL I told him when I was ready I was going to tell him!... We were on our way to the hospital... DH wouldn't speed up so I could get a better photo of the delorean (Back to the future car) that passed us on the highway, I cared more about the car, lol, it was really cool.
Got to the hospital at 2ish and met up with our birth photographer and Midwife was already in the room, she had set up the pool already.
Did an initial check I was only 3cm - Hitchhikers bum was down. I went into the pool - oh my, that was the best pain relief ever!... It helped with the contractions as they were increasing. My music was going through the Bluetooth speaker - which provided many laughs with some of my song choices (one being salt and peppers - push it)
I wanted to get out of the pool and go on the ball, which I did for a little bit but found more comfort on my knees, cuddling into DH. My MW gives the best back rubs!!! During this time I was just focusing on the music, cuddling DH and having a massage. The lovely T (another private midwife) joined us during this time too...
Because Miss hitchhiker was breech once I got into active labour I had to have monitoring on - it was wireless thankfully! It took a while to find hitchhikers heartbeat, she had moved a bit, but once it was found - it showed Hitchhiker was coping really well!
It was suggested I go sit on the toilet for a little bit, that position was actually really nice, I was off my knees and supported. It was here that my waters broke nice and neatly in the loo (cleanest birth ever!!!). I had never broken my waters on my own, so that was the most bizarre feeling ever - intense pressure! Contractions felt like they were on top of each other!
Because my waters broke I had to be checked again - I was 7cm, but this time there was something wrong, I could see the look in my midwives eyes. I then got told she could feel feet (Miss Hitchhiker decided she wanted to walk out). Now it was time to bring in the big guns 'OB'. DH knew the OB that was on so that made me feel a little at ease, she was lovely!
The discussion was had and it was my decision to proceed with a Csection. It was the most appropriate cause of action to take to make sure Hitchhiker was safe. Once that was decided everything went so quickly, I signed consent forms, DH, (photographer) and (Midwife) all went and got dressed up for theatre.
I was pushed into theatre where I got the spinal - I was quite happy at this point to have the spinal as the contractions were insane! Everyone was lovely they explained what was going on.
DH was brought in, and it felt like not even a second later the screen went down and we heard the screams of our perfect little girl!
6.07pm Hitchhiker came in the world. She was well enough to have delayed cord clamping, my midwife then got her and she was brought to my chest for skin to skin and a breastfeed... DH and Hitchhiker didn't have to leave my side at all for the rest of the stay at hospital, which was only 21hours!
Even tho it wasn't my ideal birth it was still perfect...
