Have you ever suffered with low blood pressure during pregnancy?

My last antenatal appoitment (7+6 weeks) my blood pressure was checked. Last pregnancy I only had problems with High BP and ended up with severe pre-eclampsia. I had no idea it was high because I really didnt feel any different IYKWIM. This time, from about 4 weeks preg I have been getting terrible MS accompained by horrible dizzy/light headness. When I seen my OBGYN at 7 weeks to get something for my MS, I mentioned it to her then and she sent me for some blood test (which all came back fine). When she checked my BP last tuesday, she was a little concerned that my BP was low (I forgot to even ask her what it was.. got to love MS and exhaustion) and she said to me that I need to up my fluid intake. I dont know how I can drink anymore as Im already drinking over 5 litres a day (so thirsty, which i mentioned to her aswell) and im peeing 500 times a day. BUT, needless to say, doesnt matter how much I drink... im still so very dizzy. It does come and go, but comes more than it goes.
I had a warm (to hot but not too hot) bath the other night when I was feeling dizzy as I know the heat from it can raise your BP a little, well... dizzyness was gone when I was in the for 5 mins, it was bliss for the whole 15 mins I was in there lol.

Im worried that I could faint and looking after DD, that really worries me as Im sure you could all imagine.

Sooooo I was wondering, this is all new to me this whole LOW blood pressure thing... is there anything I should worry about? Is it dangerous to be dizzy all the time (for the baby I mean)? Does it go away the further along you get? Is there something I can be doing to ease it or raise my BP a little?

I hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance xox

    Plenty fluids definately
Get up from sitting/ lying to standing slowly.
If you do get really dizzy lie down elevate your feet, if your out sit down and put your head tucked between your legs.
Don't stand in the one spot if you are up walk around keep blood flowing.

I've always had low blood pressure and have never had a problem. I've gotten a little dizzy on occasions (when I've jumped up too fast from sitting) but I've never fainted. When I was at the end of my pregnancy with DS my midwife took my blood pressure and was a bit shocked that it was 75/40. I felt fine though! Last time I had it checked it was 84/60.

I guess the only thing I can suggest is being careful going from sitting to standing.

Mine's always low too. And quite low at start of pg and nearly normal by the end.
Just take care if you're feeling dizzy.

mine has been low every pg. the midwives are always amazed how i am still walking arround after checking it.
i dont know if it is related but i have low iron aswell and if i forget my iron supliments then i get dizzy and feel realy faint and sick untill i take them again.

hope your bp picks up for you its real sucky when it is low.

    ^ yeah that.

I also found that if I looked up I would get dizzy, so avoid that too if you can.

Had low bp with both my pregnancies. Thankfully I never actually faired, just felt like I might.

    Hope it gets under control.

Sometimes low blood pressure isn't the issue but the side effect. You could have low potassium, so eating more foods that are high in potassium, like meats and fish, bananas, fresh apricots (which are also high in iron), avocado, rock mellon and honeydew might help.

I have low pressure normally but it gets lower when I get pregnant.
It usually sits around 90/50 80/40.
Everyone has given you the advice I would.

I had low BP at the beginning of both of my pregnancies. At around 5-8 weeks my tongue would go numb, I couldn't make a sentence that anyone could understand and I would feel disoriented and it was followed by a migraine. It wasn't ongoing, it was like a sudden drop in BP and then a few hours later it would return to normal. The doc said it was low BP. These 'spells' happened a few times but after about 9 weeks I didn't get them anymore. My last pregnancy ended with high BP (155/95) and I was induced, and I am now 25 weeks but have had normal BP through my second trimester.

    I agree.

Did your doctor check your Iron levels?
A low BP can be the sde effect of Abnormal Iron levels but mostly an indication of anaemia. remember you now have 2 'people' to supply blood to (one for you and one for bubba) so it is fairly common to have low bp in early pregnancy.
Increasing fluids gives you more volume in your blood so your heart pushes greater amounts through your body- but its sound like you are having more than sufficient amounts. Actually 5 litres is huge if you are doing it because you are thirsty- have you been checked for diabetes?
Maybe get your iron levels checked but meanwhile try a iron supplement like Elevit...and avoid caffeine and caffeine inhibits the absorption of iron...

Otherwise everyone here has given you great advice

thanks for all the replies Yep had iron levels checked and have had 2 RBS (random blood sugars) done so far and all is perfect. Blood pressure is staying more normal now with only a bout of LBP every now and then but no where near as bad as the first trimester.

I do drink abit of caffiene... i didnt realise it inhibits the absorbtion of iron. Well there u go
