High Blood Pressure after Pregnancy

Hi,
Don't know if any of you can help me or not, but, I had pre-eclampsia at the end of my pregnancy admitted to hospital and baby born by c/s due to distress. Anyway after returning home and off medications (panadine Forte) I have started experiencing headaches on alternate sides of my head so I went to Dr's yesterday and my BP was 160/95 so my Dr has put me on Aldomet to control it. What i'm wondering is if any of you ladies has had pre-eclampsia and the blood pressure has remained high if it goes back to normal or am I stuck with it. I have never had a problem with blood pressure before this pregnancy (4th).
Any help would be appreciated. thank you

Congrats on your new bub!

I've never had blood pressure issues outside of pregnancy either but I had severe pre-eclampsia with my first baby and moderate pre-eclampsia with my second. Both times I was put on medication (Hydralazine and Clonidine) and both times my BP went back to normal.

With my first, I think it took a few months after the birth for it to get back to normal (I can't remember exactly how long) and after having my son last August, it took about a month for it to get back to normal and remain stable. I haven't had it checked for a while now, but as far as I know it is fine. Well, I feel fine anyway!

I hope the Aldomet gets your BP back under control too. All the best!

Edited to add: I thought I would also just mention that I'm no longer on the medication. Once my BP was under control, I stopped taking the tablets and it stayed stable on it's own.

Pre-eclampsia can occur up to 2 weeks post partum with the same signs and symptoms. Neurological signs (such and headache and visual disturbances) should be investigated. Make sure you get checked out if your symptoms get worse or you are concerned.

hi, i have resently had my second bub i had no problem with high bp with my first pregnancy , this time i had preeclampsia at the end of my pregnancy and so far its a week later and im still in and out of hospital and doctors trying to stablise it.

Ditto. I was also on bp meds for about 4 months post-birth, after being diagnosed with PE during pregnancy.

Hang in there kristel. I was diagnosed with PE after DD's birth and kidney and liver issues to match. Took them a while but they did sort it out.
