    Pre eclampsia...? A bit long...

Hi all! Havent posted before... just need some advice. Yesterday i went for my routine antenatal, and i thought i would mention the heachaches i am getting constantly, i mentioned this to my midwife about a month ago, she done some tests and everything was fine we blamed it on the heat and humidity we get here. I told her i am still getting headaches and they are getting far worse, to the point no amount of panadeine will take it away, so i go without painkillers cause they dont do anything anyway haha.

Also, 2 days ago i was watching "This is it" movie, andi got up to go to the toilet and as soon as i sat down, i could see lights on the side of my eyes, i thought it was just cause i got up too quickly, but then yesterday the same thing happend but only on my right side, and i had been sitting down for about an hour watching a movie. I had my app. that day and i told her when i got there, she tested my urine, and i have high amounts of protein bbuuuuuuuuuuuuut my blood preassure is normal.... ? I dont understand. So off i trod to the hospital to do all the tests my midwife just done, only had to have bloods, (which took 3 hours!) In my blood test they checked my liver and kidney function to make sure there not (for lack of a better word) broken haha and could be seeping protein, but that was all good.

Sooo what im really asking i guess is, is it possible to have pre ecplamsia without high blood preassure? And what else could high amounts of protein mean? ANd if the protein is treated will the headaches go away?

I had PE without the high BP - my BP was within normal ranges but was towards the higher ends of the normal range if that makes sense.

I had protein in my urine and abnormal liver function and platelets.

I went to the Obstetrician on a Monday at 33+2 weeks - they found protein in the urine then and the next day I had to do a 24 hour urine collection, I had bloods taken on the Wednesday and then by the Friday I was being admitted to hospital for complete bed rest and management of PE.

I ended up being induced at 34+1 weeks as my liver function was abysmal - (normal range is less than 40, I was over 300).

I hope that your tests come back as not being PE... and if it is that they are able to manage it.

I am so glad you posted this. I have fainted a couple of times in the last week and have been getting really bad headaches and my face and hands and feet are puffy, yet BP normal. I had blood tests done the other day cos the doc thought i might have gallstones, but she told me i had high protein. i didn't know what that meant. my mother had pre eclampsia, but i thought you had to have high blood pressure to get it.

Ive been having alot more of seeing things, also ive had alot of discharge that i forgot to mention to the doctor, but i told my midwife.. It almost feels as if ive wet myself . I have to wait 2 days to get the results back, so have been freaking out. I really dont want to be in hospital, nor do i want bubs to come early, but if it means our health i guess thats what it comes down too. Really stressing haha

Go and see your doctor as soon as you can.

Lights in your eyes isn't really flash.

    Good luck.

Yep, agree with Divvy here. It's not good when you start getting lights in your eyes. Go to your gp or the birth suite to get checked out hun.

I had extreme swelling in my hands and feet from 20 weeks onwards, "spots" in my eyes, protein in urine, dizziness and a couple of other things happening which I can't rememberoff the top of my head right now, all of which pointed to PE - I had normal blood pressure, however my entire life I have had low blood pressure so normal BP was high for me if that makes sense... All my Midwives were worried and suspected PE but I didn't actually get a diagnosis because of my "normal" blood pressure..

When I went into Labour, my waters broke & contractions started but slowed and weren't progressing once I got to the Birthing Suite, they took my BP then and it was through the roof, they then diagnosed me with Pre Eclampsia and said they weren't willing to wait things out, my Ob "strongly advised" me to agree to being put on the synto to get things moving... Took me a while to agree but I did in the end as I started to get a bit worried when my BP kept rising and my pro natural birth midwife was saying "Lovey, maybe we should put that drip in now..?" I had a beautiful healthy little man, (who is right now giggling and chatting with the computer screen as I type haha cheeky boy!) My BP took a day or two to go down, no other dramas and all went well

So anyway, avery long way of saying yes I think it is possible to have PE with normal BP haha - Well, it happened to me anyway! Just keep an eye on things and if you're in doubt, don't mess around, you rather feel silly for overreacting than underreacting in this case iykwim?

    Best of Luck!! xx
