I know that it is less likely but there is no magic formula to predict it.
It's unusual to not have it with the first but then have it with the second. Not sure if that changes anything...
I had PE with DD1 but not 2. Things ok so far for number 3.
Hey,
I'm currently on bub no 2. The view of my OB in my case is that my BP will spike up at some point, but it's likely to be later in my pregnancy and not as high. So for me, it went up in my 37th week and I was induced.
This time my BP is high-ish (currently around 135-140 / 95 ish) and my medication has just been upped to 6 x Aldomet tablets per day.
Dont have any experience but I have read good pregnancy nutrition can reduce the chance of developing it. Look up the Brewer diet. There's an article on BB somewhere. I dont know what other factors are involved.
junglemum- i started getting it with DS1 just before i had him like they noticed when i was in labour, with DS2 it started quite early but they pushed me to get to 37 weeks which i ended up having him at 36+6
Fabfiona- thankyou im hoping not to get it this time around but im not really liking my chances as ive still had reasonably high-ish BP since having DS2 but im not on any meds for it
i guess this might be something i need to discuss with my midwife when i start seeing her, it is still only early days yet so i guess ill wait & see
thankyou everyone
I should have mentioned - something I'm doing this time to help with my BP is acupuncture. Not only will it help me prepare for labour, but there are points that are linked to BP that we are working on.
The other thing in my plan for this pregnancy, together with my OB is to try and beat the pre-eclampsia BP spike. My BP tends to bubble along, high-ish and then wham, 220/160 type levels. This time we are going to try and bring on natural labour by using induction acupuncture, stretch and sweeps and other such methods from about 36 weeks. I know that if my body isn't ready then none of this will work, but if there is the slightest chance that it is ready to go then all of this will help.
I think the chances for it recurring are about 1 in 4, but if there are background issues it's often higher.
I'm in a similar boat. Got it late with DD (actually occurred after her birth and gave me real kidney and liver issues) and with DS. But I have chronic hypertension and the PE is superimposed onto that. I also have kidneys predisposed to hight BP because of how they are. As far as I know any further pregnancies will be monitored heavily.
Will google that diet Tash - thanks!!
Fabfiona- i had a stretch & sweep at 36+4 and that sent me into labour, if that didnt then i was going to be induced im glad the S&S did it for me as i wanted a natural labour!
Tash- i read a interview with some Dr about your diet being part of getting pre-eclampsia i might google it too
Kim- wowee after you had but you got it, is that uncommon?? im pretty freaked out that either this baby will be born right on DS2 birthday or heeps before due to getting this again guess this is what im trying to figure out but im sure its all a mystery!
I had PE with #1 and didnt have it with any of the others (ive had 7).
I have developed high bp with all of them at the end of my pregnancy but i have essential hypertension ( high bp all the time due to kidney issues) so im on bp meds for the rest of my life and its expected that my bp will rise towards the end.
Its hard to say if you will get PE again, just have to keep a close eye on things.
They didn't seem freaked about it so I guess it's not totally uncommon It is a worry though that I totally understand
