Don't be too sad! Feeding this far is a perfect achievement. Feel sad yes but also very proud.
14 months of breastfeeding after reduction (Bfar) and we are still going strong. Feeding 2-3 times a day and I have just come off the motilium but I am still taking the fenugreek and my supply is enough to keep DD interested.
I wonder how many more months/ years I'll bf DD for...

What's with this? We haven't changed our feeding patterns recently. This morning, I was absolutely fine, then at 5pm, my boob felt a bit sore so had a look to see what's going on. Huh? A lump quite literally the diameter of a tennis ball? I used to regularly have problems with recurrent blocked ducts but not for months and months so why now?
Could be the way you slept or the bra you've been wearing? I had a blocked duct a few days ago, think it was from sleeping in a bra, was pretty painful to shift :hug:
Sometimes a seatbelt can block a duct... Hugs, hope it clears soon.
Ladies, I am struggling. I hate my bras ATM - they don't fit as DS2 has dropped the frequency of his feeds - but don't want to buy a new one as my boobs are changing. Grr.
Plus DS2's sleep has regressed badly in the last week or so and he is not sleeping more than about 2hrs at a stretch... Feeding overnight is doing my head in. I'm asleep on my feet half the time, literally. And yes I know what the word literally means.
:hug: OP. Night waking and feeding is awful once they're a bit bigger and there's not as much rest any other time for you. How old is DS2 now? I found 16-18 mths the worst with both DDs.
Could you try some bfing singlets? I found them a little more forgiving in terms of size. Otherwise, seriously, treat yourself to some new smaller nursing bras. I didn't with DD1 only to end up bfing for almost four years. :/ the amount of money you save by bfing, I think a smaller bra you might not wear for more than six mths is still a good investment. Make it a pretty one and you'll feel sexier too. ;)
Still bfing and getting milk at 38+ weeks. But I suspect not very much. At this point, I'm confident DD2 will not give up, which I'm pleased about. I want her to bf after she starts preschool in a few weeks and cops all those new germs (that would then come home to her new sister).
Jen, he's almost 15 months. Both the other two were night weaned by now so this is new.
I could go a new bonds singlet, that's not a bad idea. I just hate how they are all caving in, they look terrible. Even from the outside.
You've done well to get to 38 weeks!! Prepared for tandem feeding? ;)
It's a notoriously tough time for sleep, anxiety, etc. If they're feeding, they feed a lot! The flipside is that if you weren't feeding, you'd probably be doing something much more labour intensive to get him through it. Hope it's not too much longer for you.
OP, have no idea what tandem feeding will be like. DD2 has three bfs a day - morning, nap and night. So I don't think it'll be too hard to juggle. I am talking to her about how the baby will have boo boo. Let's wait and see what reality brings!
15 mths - it is a tricky stage. Because DD2 would never feed to sleep, the alternative was sitting by her and patting for aaaaaaaaaagggges. MadB is right, that's labour intensive! And annoying. Thank goodness for iPad. ;) DD1 was night weaned then too, but reverted to trying night time bfs for a little while before I cut them out with a water cup instead. Hope he settles better soon.
Hey ladies, have any of your toddlers started biting or grazing on your nipples?
My dd2 has been leaving teeth marks on mine and worse its when she is drifting off to sleep.
She knows not to bite when shes awake but i dont know what to do when she is falling asleep because i dont want to pull it out and wake her but its getting worse and worse.
Any one else in the same boat?
That has happened to me. I found that making sure they were really well positioned helped, going back to the basics with tucking body in nice and close etc, so they were latched well.

Dd2 is so funny when shes bfing during her wake times. She doesnt stay still and full on does handstands with legs and arms up and all different contortionist positions. Lucky my nipples are mega long!
Gonna miss laughing at that thats for sure.
going back to basics helped here too. also reminding her when she was still awake about having a 'big mouth' lion style. it was quite cute when I was also feeding ds that dd would tell him 'big mouth baby, like a lion!'.

Hi everyone. I have had an interesting week with feeding. DD (who is almost 2 years, 8 months) fell over on the trampoline and ended up with a small fracture above her right elbow. Her arm is in a cast and sling, which has made for some difficult feeds. When it first happened and she was in so much pain, I was so happy to still be feeding her and able to provide her that comfort. It made feeding in bed difficult when switching sides though. And feeding her on the left side when I'm sitting on the couch has been a bit awkward. She's at the age where she can adapt pretty well on her own though, so she and I have made it work.
After cutting back her feeds a fair bit just recently, she's been feeding heaps the past few days - which would usually be fine... but pair that with morning sickness, fatigue and sore nipples because she has been feeding so much... it hasn't been much fun for me. Feeding a wriggly, heavy toddler when you feel you might spew at any moment is just not nice :sick:.
I have been kind of hoping DD will wean of her own accord while I'm pregnant, but so far (I'm 9 weeks today) she has not slowed down at all. I guess we will see.
oh you poor thing, sterla. hopefully your LO starts to feel better soon, and can cut down on feeds again.
my ds weaned a few months back, quite suddenly(pregnancy influenced), and wanted nothing to do with my chest area. lately, he has wanted to rest his hand at top of my cleavage, particularly when he is tired. I don't mind, he is not fiddling just resting. just wondering if others experienced this. also wondering how he will feel when baby is born, and is feeding.
Oh no, hope your DD is doing ok. My DD fractured her leg on the trampoline too! She's been sick lately, too, so feeding more and more.

Mine fed more when pregnant, no slowing down here...guess that's why I'm feeding all 3. I use counting so count to ten then off so gave her warning and usually she'd come off before I finish counting. Make it easier if you need to run off to spew.
Thanks for your replies :). DD is coping pretty well with her arm. We had an appointment today though (which she was not happy about - she's terrified of the hospital now), and she will have her cast on for another three weeks. So, another three weeks of awkward feeding haha. Oh well. She has started cutting back feeds again now that the initial pain from the fracture has passed and she's caught up on sleep. She asks plenty still, but I am able to suggest other things and she'll often go for that instead.
I am not sure, but I *think* my milk may have changed or supply started dropping, as she is not feeding properly. Very quick feeds (she usually takes her time) and it's starting to feel a bit weird on my end too. It's like she's not taking those big, deep sucks to actually drink the milk, and is just sort of half heartedly doing these weak little sucks that don't feel nice. Feeding is not a pleasant thing for me at the moment, and I am definitely going to encourage her to wean, but I don't think I have the heart to force it either.
:leap: Amelia just had a massive breastfeed :D She hasn't been able to latch properly for well over a month, maybe two, but since Elisabeth's been born she's been asking for boob. And she just latched perfectly! It even got to the point where I asked her to stop because she'd been on for so long :lol:

Good news ladies. I had a talking to my 15 month old and told her she will not get any day feeds. Its been a week and she has not complained lol.
I do have to distract her and putting her to sleep during the day is really hard. On wed she skipped her nap. Other days she slept in the car. I need to find another way to get her to nap.
Still has night feeds. Im happy with that except her leaving teeth marks in my nipples!! Im cringing most the time but just happy her day feeds are gone (although bf is so much easier than finding ways of distraction lol)
I have that issue m2c. Spock only naps if it is in the car and its now too hot to leave her in it when we get home, so she is getting too short broken sleep. Or bf to sleep, which is getting harder because she just refuses brcause she knows what it means. I think it might be confusing her to because ahe doesn't feed to sleep in the evening. Only at her nap and that is only cause I can't get her to sleep any other way
Dd2 outright refuses to let me put her to sleep during the day. Tried scratching her back rocking her patting.

I have the opposite... DS2 feeds too much overnight, I want that to stop (but soooo can't be bothered!!) but is happy to feed to sleep during day time. I want to stop the night feeds, don't care so much about day time. He's kinda cute... When he gets tired he goes and gets his sleeping bag and brings it over to me going "nigh nighs! Nigh nighs!!"
Jen thanks heaps for the suggestion of a feeding singlet type thing to get me through this interim before weaning phase... I went and got myself two new Bonds bras in the sales that were only $22 each. Sweet. And they actually FIT. Yay, no more cave ins!
In regards to caving boobs, I'm in the same boat here as well. Girls are generally having two feeds a day each and sometimes three. My boobs are def smaller than pre pregnancy now but in saying that, they are still big enough to need a bit more support than a nursing singlet will provide. Just curious, at this stage of the game, are they likely to shrink much more once we wean? I need some new bras, neither my old ones or my nursing ones fit properly but don't know if its too soon to buy more.
I'm not sure bean :( I just got myself two smaller Bonds bras, as I said above, for the exact same reason - I'm not sure how much smaller I'm going to get and don't want to go back to underwires just yet, the risk of blocked ducts is too real for me.

Spock has started doing this 3 dides thing... she use to only ever have one side at a time until only a few months ago when she mastered the 'finished' sign and the more sign and point to the other side. Now in the last week he has finished the second side and goes bck for thirds to the first side again...
Tell me the "feels like I'm going to throw you to the other side of the room" thing goes away! Ds2 is fart-arsing around at night with the on-off thing with reasonable breaks between attempts but in the past week I've got to the point of "you have to stop now mummy can't handle it anymore" and then he gets upset and I can't calm him down to sleep; DH has to and after fussing around with the older one doesn't really want to deal with the second (which I understand cause he takes forever at times to settle). I'm hoping it's either teeth related for ds2 as his suction seems really strong compared to normal around teething or it's related to my attempted cycle which is also driving me crazy (removal of implanon and now onto mini pill) with breakthrough bleeding all over the place.
Hi ladies I will be in here in a few weeks yay, just a quick question- do I still need to wear nursing bras, I hate them and my boobs are pretty much soft now. Thinking it's unlikely I will get mastitis etc as I have never had any problems previously.
I still wear mine 21mths in with ds2 (although I didn't stop wearing them from 9weeks pg with ds1). I think it'd pretty much depend on how much you're feeding, and need for feed access during the day.:
I still wear them but only because of the ease of access thing, and mine are too big to get away with not wearing a bra. If I could get away with it I would probably not wear one at all. I've never gotten mastitis either (*touchwood*)
i ve been wearing feeding bras for 4 years now! won't know myself when i finally get back to regular bras. There are different types, maybe shop around if the ones you have are uncomfortable.
Saffy if you are still producing milk then I think you need to stay with bf bras - he underwire in normal bras can cause blockages. Having said that I know people who've gone back to normal bras and haven't had an issue. You could try wearing a normal bra and see how it feels?
