My little man refuses discreet feeding lol - he hates being covered up and will constantly thrash about and pull of until the cloth is removed! And I agree all u can see when they are feeding is skin and I think there are a lot of cleavage tops out there that show much more skin than BF does!!
Amelia hates anything touching her feet when I'm feeding her (except me pretending to eat them ), heaven forbid anything touch her FACE! :o Meltdown galore!
Oh I hear you on the bub not liking a cover - a well meaning friend tried to drape a jacket over us once, Monkey absolutely cracked it and took me a good 10 mins to settle him enough to continue the feed. Never again!
Thought I might pop in here and join in. DD3 is 12 days old and has taken to the breast like a champ. I bf DD1 until 6 months and dd2 until almost 11 months, Im hoping to get to 12 months this time but Im happy to keep going as long as its working for both of us, I have much longer off from work this time which will help. Once again we both have thrush despite taking probiotics and not having antibiotics this time, but at least I know how to get on top of it this time round :)
I cant stand using a drape or cover, all my babies fussed if I tried and I would get hot. Their heads cover most of the breast anyway! Im more worried about my belly hanging out than my bb's on display, I often wear my belly band so I can keep my tummy covered and keep warm on cooler days as 99% of the time I prefer to pull my top up.
Im also a shopper who breastfeeds while I continue to browse, Id get bored sitting in the shops feeding so I just keep going :)
I can't even master the discreet approach so I don't bother... Putting a shawl or cloth over my shoulder just impedes my own vision so I can't see what I'm doing- unclipping the bra, pulling up/down my shirt then attaching bub. Then I can't seem to hide the nipple anyway because I'm moving the cloth around trying to see what I'm doing. So I don't bother. I just make sure bub's head is in front of my nipple when I pop it out lol.
How do you define discreet - if the passers-by are not getting squirted then that'll do!
Welcome Sararose and congrats on your new bundle!
How are you managing bfing and the older two? Is he a quick feeder?
Heck I've sprayed in public! Oops, but when they come off during letdown... As for discrete? What is dis-crete? lol I wear a singlet under my T-shirt if I'm not in a bf top, but that's only for my own comfort (I hate my tummy). Even in a bf top I pull the boob out of the hole, can't manage it otherwise. I don't wear a cloth over my head to eat - I reckon it's the toilet issue again (I don't eat in the toilet, why should baby).
I've sprayed in public heaps haha my letdown is terrifying this time! I was once feeding DD2 on a park bench while DP was playing with DD1 on the playground and yelled out for him to come check out the impressive puddle a good couple of metres from where we were actually sitting lol.
I don't spray ever; just drip like a tap that wasn't turned off properly.
Jen thanks for the welcome. So ar so good, my DH is still home or another week then we'll have to find our flow.
I seem to only spray my DD mainly up the nose when she is attatching poor thing!
My DS likes to pull off to look at stuff - usually means he gets squirted across the face
Sounds like you've had the support you needed to get off to a good start, SR.
I'm not spraying much because DD2 gets on, gulps everything down as fast as is humanly possible and only comes up for air when it's all gone! I guess once she starts to get distracted it might be different.
I haven't done any expressing yet and for my work times I will have our nanny bring DD2 to me to bf. that will probably change as she gets older, but I'm literally going with the flow this time. While I can be flexible I'd prefer not to add another task. Especially since the blocked ducts seem to have stayed away for a few weeks. Fx it stays that way!
Just wondering when u girls have finally been able to sleep on your stomach? I used to always fall asleep on stomach but obviously havent been since being pregnant... I really wish I could now but my BBs are still quite full during the night and they are just too hard to be comfrotable sleeping on! Hoping someone will be able to enlighten Me to when this will happen? Lol
It's the only time of day I'm engorged and I think it's cuz little man is still working out his night feeds (they range from 1-3am). I also always express in the morning so not sure if this is adding to the engorgement issue for sleeping?
Sorry for the rambling lol
P.s this might be a stupid question but would sleeping on your chest stop ur breast filling as min cuz they are being squished?
It took me a year or more to be comfortable on my front again - but I think it is different for everyone. Squishing will be uncomfortable - and that is actually a good thing, since sleeping on full breasts would probably also lead to blocked ducts. It won't stop them from filling - that's driven by when they are emptied.
I can lay on my front for short periods - I think your boobs normally settle down a bit somewhere around 3-4 months. I still can't have my chiro do my upper back adjustments on my front though, but that involves placing additional pressure on my spine between my shoulder blades. So we use alternative methods. But stomach sleeping I think would be out for a while longer yet as laying on my stomach gets uncomfortable after about 10-15 mintues
I couldn't lie on my front for sure for at least 3 months. After that I can a bit more. But usually early in the morn I can't. Too engorged.

So I'm curious and like to hear others thoughts on this but in my mother group today a couple of the mothers who are FF but offering a small amount of EBM said that their babies are rejecting the EBM- even though it's in the same bottle, same teat etc. is this weird?
it's most likely just a question of what they're used to. if they mixed the ebm with formula the baby would probably take it. i guess.
Just wanted to pop in & join the chat again - it's been 13 months since i weaned DS:)
DD is 3 days old & has so far been alot easier than DS ( who would scream for a feed before he even woke up). She was born weighing 4070g & was weighed today & had only lost 200g, which makes me happy with how we're going! This time ive demand fed from the start and was able to have skin to skin & offer a feed straight after she was born :)
Looking fwd to chatting with everyone!

Welcome - and congrats on your little girl!
I found it a lot easier the second time even with the long gap, which I attribute to skin on skin and feeding straight after birth.
hi, congrats sloane!
Wow congrats :)
Congrats sloane! Sounds like you're off to a good start this time.
Thank you :)
I know there's still potential for challenges but i feel so much more relaxed this time!

Urgh, I have an awful bout of mastitis. My poor left bb is all red and streaky and so sore. I had a raging fever last night and I'm still not good. Def on the way back though. Plus, I'm getting lots of cuddles and smiles in bed with my beautiful baby. So it's not all bad!
Oh Jennifer, you poor thing. I really hate mastitis :( Hope you are feeling 100% again soon.
Welcome Sloane :)
Congratulations Sloane! Another little girl in the 4 kilo club (mine was too) - you'll be back to birthweight in no time at that rate :)
Oh Jennifer, that's no good, I hope you're improving very quickly :(
Things are good here, bbs VERY engorged this morning after DD's third ever sleep through - first in months. Perhaps it was the 4 month jabs yesterday that did it, but I don't care, it was lovely :) Not that I'm up for long though, and not that I didn't wake up, but you know what I mean...
Wannabe mumma - I get it totally a few times little man has slept till 4 or 5 am and I'm still waking at 3ish thinking oh it hasn't feed yet - wow BBs sore! Lol then it's sometimes hard to get back to sleep cuz I think oh he will wake up any mints and then he doesn't but I'm still awake lol.
I'm still going well. My supply has increased again for little mans growth spurt at 3 months so happy about that. Had a little scare yesterday when I think he had a reaction to some type of cream a friend was wearing. He was screaming for about 1ins and his leg went all red and swelled a little. Very glad I was at work with my pediatrician and she checked him and it cleared up after about 15 mins but it was so sad seeing him so upset! Def will be more careful what I wash in, wear and eat etc incase he is allergic to anything.
Oh I'm hearing you on the ouchy boobs when Monkeyboy randomly decides to sleep longer than usual. He's just started going down around 7pm and will now sleep till around 2-3am but had a night or two of waking at 4-5am instead. I was waking up at 2am, going back to sleep only to wake up every few minutes because sleeping on basketballs isn't easy. And they leak occasionally, especially if he's slept a lot longer than usual.
Made the mistake of eating coleslaw the other day. It was there and I was hungry....not doing that again! Boy oh boy was he a little bugle bum for the rest of the day
Sore bb is much better today but I'm still taking it easy. DD1 stayed home since she had a tummy bug last night so we're all laying around a bit.
I was tempted to express before bed last night to make sure my poor bb was emptied, but DD2 cooperated and had an 11pm feed anyway. It's the one night time feed she often skips but I was glad she didn't this time.
Ck - what's in coleslaw that disagrees with LO? I had a pasta the other day with thinly sliced garlic in it which was delicious!!! But lots of poopies the next day! Lol
CK - I leak all the time, the breast pads this morning were disgusting! I have to wear them 24/7. Probably don't have to wear them during the day any more, but definitely at night, which means I sleep in bf-ing singlets to hold them in place.
Hi Everyone,
Hope I can slide into this tread :)
I'm a first time mummy, DD is 4weeks old. BF seems to be going well so far. DD was 3.8kilos born and weighed 4.71 this morning at the chemist. That was with nappy and a onesie on, don't know how much to subtract?
I have to wear breast pads aswell, somedays they are soaked.
Look forward to chatting with everyone.
Sent from my iPhone... Please excuse the mistakes :)
Rosey, my m/w suggested taking off about 150 gms with the clothes DD2 had on the other day, and it wasn't much more than your baby. You could weigh the clothes and nappy on the kitchen scales at home!
That's a good weight gain though. How's everything else going with bfing?
I bought both of my pg sisters ABA subscriptions for their baby shower gifts. They got them today. Since they're already getting all of DD2's clothes and MCNs as she grows out of them. I thought something practical might be good! I bought my own subscription when DD1 was a couple of months old and I know how much I loved the mags and the group get-togethers. And I've lent my book to someone and haven't gotten it back, so I couldn't pass it on to them. Figured it was easier to join them up than trying to track my book down!
Wow rosey I think even minus 100 or so grams 4.47 is fantastic at 4 weeks. My girl had her seven week weigh in today and she is 4.57.
Jennifer glad to hear you are feeling a little better. My DD has had a few almost all nighters in the last two weeks, waking around 4am. My breasts are like melons too when that happens and they leave a trail of milk from the bed to the cot or bathroom when I get up (I don't wear a bra or pads to bed as they only really leak last thing at night and first thing in the morning).
Can I ask a question re supply settling - I've heard that around 6 weeks the supply settles. We are seven weeks and my breasts feel softer all the time now, not just after a feed. I am worried that they have 'settled' too much and there is not enough milk now because of this soft feeling. DD also has become fussy after feeds - I thought it was a bit of wind or milk coming back up as often she is better after a burp or even five or so minutes without a burp but maybe she is still hungry or has become a lazy sucker? She will drink from 5-10 minutes (she has always been a fast drinker) then pull off and doze for a minute or two then she wants to go back on but keeps pulling herself off again without really sucking. So I will offer the second breast and she might take a few big sucks but then fusses again and cries when I lift her up. But there would be no reason why my milk would dry up would there? Not if I feed every 2-3 hours in the day even if she does not feed much at night?
Time for a new thread here.
