I was totally struggling with BF when my DS was about 6 weeks old. He was gaining weight but VERY slowly. My stupid GP told me to totally abandon BF and feed formula. I asked if I could dual feed since I didn't know at that time I could get through it. He said "yes" I could but I should still feed my baby 120mls of formula at every feed. "what if he won't take it?" I asked because I had had this problem with feeding him EBM. "keep going 'till he finishes".
What a total tool.

I was glad my paed hasnt tried to tell me that i should ff feed ds2 eveb though hes a slow weight gainer. another gp told me that if ds2 wasnt gauning enough weight id have to consider formula cause obviously my milk wasnt good enough for him. Idiot!

I've read all six pages of this thread and some made me cringe and some made me laugh.
The 'best' negative comment I heard directed at me while BF my daughter at a cafe when she was nine months old, was from a women in her mid twenties who was having lunch with a female friend a few tables away: "Does she have to do that here, I'm trying to eat my lunch!". Well guess what so were we!

I had my cousin ask me at my brother's 21st the other week "Are you still breastfeeding her?!"
I just looked at her like she'd grown a second head and said "Of course I am, why wouldn't I?" :p Then again, I always look at her like she's got a second head, she's a moron :lol:

Yup. I was chatting with a fellow career-person-type, who seemed to think that I must be very relieved that I'm back at work as I don't have to be doing that "feeding stuff" ... I said that I was still feeding, DS2 was still exclusively on the house white (and hopefully will be until 6 months, as per his big brother) and expressing and bf while working is completely doable, and thankfully my body responds really well to pumping - which I am extremely grateful for.
They seemed to find it astonishing that I was "putting myself through all that" now that I have a good "excuse" to stop, and go back to getting a full night's sleep etc. :o

This thread makes me so grateful! I've not come across any negative comments about breadtfeeding DD. It either doesn't come up, or people just accept that it's a personal thing and she's still very young and needs it.
I don't know if that'll change as she gets older, I do have one co-worker who has mentioned it'd be weird to still be breadtfeeding a child who can walk and talk. But, DD has a few words and is getting more confident with walking and the co-worker doesn't seem bothered by how I feed DD.
I guess I'm just lucky!
