What? You've fed your baby recently, within the last week, and still have a BFing relationship. I'd bring in the baby and stick him on your breast - there, breastfed baby.
How... speechless-making-of-other-people. I really don't have the words.

 You are doing so well to keep up your supply whilst being transferred to hospital. I can't believe they won't let you take bubs and the reason is because he isn't BF. It's making me mad. Your bub is actually BF, you were just asked to put it on hold.
Thats crazy talk....get that baby in there with you , your off the antibiotices, get baby back on the boob and dont let ANYONE there tell you you cant!!!!!! i hope you are ok and the meds work fast for you! and that you have been able to express ok in there!
looking forward to reading that you are breast feeding you sweet little munch in hospital when you next post. sending hugs. xxxx
Oh goodness he is breast feed. Oh him this all sucks. I'd be a mess. I'm in the Redland bay area if you need ANYTHING and I promise you can get your baby back on the boob from here. It's sad you have to be in hospital but hopefully the iv antibiotics work really quickly! Did you re ask the hospital about breast feeding anti biotics?
I have fed all my bubs for 18months and have NEVER been able to express more than 10mls from both boobs. Expressing is not an indication of supply.
PM me if you want!
I agree with Beckoes - get that baby back to the hospital to be with you - and breastfeed it - right away. This is indeed craziness.
Hi,
A Lactmed search shows the following.,,,,
Summary of Use during Lactation:
A number of reviews have stated that tetracyclines are contraindicated during breastfeeding because of possible staining of infants' dental enamel or bone deposition of tetracyclines. However, a close examination of available literature indicates that there is not likely to be harm in short-term use of doxycycline during lactation because milk levels are low and absorption by the infant is inhibited by the calcium in breastmilk. Short-term use of doxycycline is acceptable in nursing mothers. As a theoretical precaution, avoid prolonged or repeat courses during nursing. Monitor the infant for rash and for possible effects on the gastrointestinal flora, such as diarrhea or candidiasis (thrush, diaper rash).
Oh hun you poor thing - you're having a rough time of it. Are the IV abx safe for bubs? If so, get that baby in there. Kick up a fuss until they let you. You need to stand up for yourself and your baby, because the health system won't. Tell them not having bub there is compromising your bf relationship. They can put a cot in with you (or even a NB bassinette) - it's not like a 6 week old is much bother!
Big hugs! We're all here for you.
Don't take no for an answer! Who cares if they think you're a trouble-maker? Is she their baby? Do they have to pick up the pieces from this massively premature separation when you are discharged? NO! You tell them how it is - they are YOUR caregivers, and you are so soon post-partum that your baby IS part of you. They can just think outside the square on this one and you bring your baby with you!
I had surgery when DS was 4 months old and, whilst the anaesthetist stuffed up in the end and used an anaesthetic so that I COULDN'T BF straight away (after I'd been asking for that for months in the lead up), they still organised a cot from paediatrics for my baby. It CAN be done if you force them to think about it!
Babe, this is just the beginning of fighting for your family - you can do it. BTW your baby IS breastfed. It is just dangerous to arbitrarily separate mother and baby at such an early stage. This is so damaging for YOUR wellbeing (your hormones won't deal well with this) and for your relationship with your baby AND for your baby's wellbeing (this is the stage they are tuning in their hormones to you).
You make sure you tell them that the reason she's not feeding 'from the breast' is a direct result of their WRONG advice, and they are already liable for that disruption to your bonding with your baby (you make it sound heaps worse than it is, whatever you do!). You make THEM feel like THEY OWE YOU, ok, honey?
If you can't then you need an advocate - your DF may need to be that person and you send him researching so that he knows WHY you need this. Can you get HIM to call the ABA helpline?
Thinking of you and sending you all the strength I can
Get that baby in hospital with you, I'm disgusted at them!
Whoa, I am in disbelief. Regardless of BF or not how can you say a mother can't have her 6 wk old baby with her!! BF is only part of your relationship and they can't discriminate because of how you feed your baby, WTF!! And your baby is BF anyway. Wow, I am shocked!
i hope your ok. checking every half an hour to see if there is any news. hugs
I'm in shock. Get your baby hun, as soon as you can :( :(
Just get your baby love. If they try to make you send him away, ask to talk to someone higher up.
If your baby is having breastmilk still then they are still bf.

 Call me if you need anything sweet.
I am sorrythat you are experiencing this. I hope you have the energy to get the hospital to understand the importance of having you NEWBORN baby with you.
I really hope you are ok.
Hi everyone, just a quick update, my phones about to die.
I buzzed after I woke up and told the nurse my baby has to stay with me in here. She asked me why he wasn't here already. ****ing stupid emergency doctors!!!! Now I'm on the ward everyone's really supportive, they are getting an LC to come and see me and are going to help me get bub back on the boob :leap: I'm so happy! Thankyou for all the hugs and encouragement!
Fabulous news! She'll go on the boob - no drama. It's what babies do.
Naww yay! That brought tears to my eyes :) Im sure your lil man will be very happy to see them boobies again!!! xxoxox
Happy dance happy dance happy dance. I thought there for a minute we were going to have to do a BB sit in or something lol
That's absolutely fantastic!
I've only just read this thread this morning and just have to say I am so happy to see your update and see you're finally getting the support you need. I hope you're feeling better and back home really soon

i'm so glad the staff on the ward are helping you! the ED staff haven't thought outside the box at all!
Im sorry you got put through that over night!! Stupid ED doctors!!! Yay that you are being looked after properly now and let us know how everything goes. It will be fine!!!! breathing a sigh of relief!!!
I'm glad you had the courage to raise the issue with the ward and I'm so glad you can have your little bubba in there with you. Good luck with everything and I hope you get well soon.
Happy tears!! I'm so relieved for you!
It's early days and there are more challenges ahead, and with this experience you know you have it in you to push through them - lots of happy dancing on BB!
I think this definitely warrants a letter of massive complaint, when you're recovered - if you need help composing it, let us know, esp as I can do a search on the uni library database for research to back up your complaints and reasons they need to educate their staff about newborn and maternal wellbeing.
Good work
Yay that's great! You poor thing though it would have been terrible to go through.
Fantastic to hear, it made me all weepy! Now for a quick recovery! Xxx

Oh thank goodness! So glad you two are back together and the staff are supportive :) Enjoy your baby and a very speedy recovery!
Fantastic news. I am glad you can get things back on track, and feed ypr bub the best way you can, be it FF or BF. From here on in, you know you have done your best.
Tears sprung immediately when I read your news! So happy he is with you where he belongs! Medical staff need some training on baby bonding! IN fact society needs it!
Oh Yas, I've only just read this thread. A big  what an aweful time you've had. I hope your infection is responding to the IV antibiotics and that you have bub nicely tucked up in bed with you. Are you at GCH? If so I hope the LC you see is Helen Green. She's awesome.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
just wondering how everything was for you today???
Yes how was your night
:happydance: So so happy that you have your beautiful baby in with you now :D I so hope the IV antibiotics do their job quickly and you're out asap!
I know some of the awful feelings you may have been going through with being separated from your baby, as I was hospitalised when my DS was 5 weeks old. I had mastitis develop into a breast abscess and had to have it surgically drained and on IV antibiotics for 2 nights. Those 2 nights, heck even just a few minutes, without my son were awful. So I'm so glad you were able to have yours returned to where he belongs
Hope you got on well last night.
Thanks for all the awesome support and encouragement girls! Without BB I don't know where I'd be.
I'm exclusively BF again :leap: it's hard though-he fussed and screamed so badly last night, it was so awful, I just sobbed. After nearly 40mins straight of him screaming the nurse and I decided to try and give him a syringe of my EBM. He wouldn't have a bar of it, we tried a cup and he didn't want that either. He eventually exhausted himself and went to sleep. I know I sound like an awful mother but I knew if I gave him the bottle he'd never go back to the breast, so I just peservered throughout the night and today. I'm happy to say each feed is getting better, and he is content afterwards so I know he's getting enough mumma's milk.
I'm also taking something (can't remember what it's called and my charts disso'd somewhere) to help with my milk supply, so I think this story will have a happy ending :)
All I can say is when I get home and settled so many rep points will be given out lol.
Thankyou so much  xxxxx
Wooohooo for you! That is absolutely wonderful news hun, so happy for you and your little man
I am still so inspired by your determination and perserverence! Even more so! And no way do you sound like an awful mother! Completely the opposite!
Forget rep points, you rock our world!
Not awful at all, I agree with PP. This is where lots of mamas give in to pressure from ill-informed care givers and well-meaning family who say the baby isn't 'getting enough', when a lot of the time the baby needs to go through a bit of a lean time (which isn't very long, all other things equal) to wait for your supply to catch up to the renewed demand. In your case you had a drop in supply because of this monumental stuff up of the docs, and I see the parallel with women whose supply just needs to catch up with new fussy periods (I still call them 'growth-spurts', um-mah! Then again, I'm not an ABA counsellor or a LC, so I can say what I want :p) before baby is getting enough again. In the scheme of things, an upset and exhausted baby for 12 hours or so is much better off than the same baby missing his cut off and isn't offered the breast again - and it's not an easy feat, so I can understand the resignation of a lot of women if they don't have the supports around them to stick with it.
Monumental effort, Yas - we really, truly mean it! When you get through something like this, you know that future challenges can't defeat you, either
I agree with PP. Your supply will catch up just like it would have to in a growth spurt (is that not the correct term for them anymore?? LOL!) You are doing a great job! I love reading about Mums who overcome the obstacles because there can be quite a few and yours were big ones! But you got through them and things can only get better!
