REN I certainly wouldn't say the Palm Beach clinic is no good. It's fantastic for it's seminars & to get together with other women, also to take Ava for her weigh ins & general advice from the nurse. Though I just don't think she would be the right one to help you. I don't think she is a LC. You should go to that appointment as you will need the clinic for support in the future. Actually, I am going this Tuesday too, for the talk at 2pm cause I missed this seminar last time.
I'll see you tomorrow anyway. I have two business cards of LC's in our area.
PS.. I've made a yummy Zucchini Pie for us for lunch. I had a small piece already

Well done Ren, it sounds like things are on the up, you're doing all the right things :D Woohoo for the poo LOL!
You are definitely right in saying that a very hungry baby won't attach as well. That's why it's suggested that feeding at the first signs of hunger, rather than waiting for crying (which is often the last sign) is the best way to go. A really hungry baby will often fuss and search 'desperately' for the nipple, and it's harder to get them to settle down and latch properly. I think you'll find that after a couple of days of feeding 2-3 hourly Ava will start to demand feeds that often (or even more frequently), you won't have to wake her. Glad you enjoyed the skin to skin, it is great. And those lovely feelings you have while skin to skin are great for BFing as they increase your prolactin levels, which is the hormone that makes BM. So as well as being just a lovely thing to do, it is really beneficial as well. Co sleeping (safely) is also great for this :D
I would suggest at least calling the LC before your MCHN appointment. If for some reason your nurse is displeased with how things have been going, you can say that you are seeing a professional, and that they will help you out.
BTW, what you did with your last feed sounds great! I would suggest keeping that up, hopefully after a few days she'll start to settle a bit more after feeding. Keep using that sling though, they're a godsend ;)

Thanks girls. Well I woke every 3hrs to feed her and wake her. We got another POO early this morning too! Nice big one again.... great sign hey?!?!!!
It was easier to settle her last night..... didn't take as long although she got wind pain at 3am this morning and it took 2hrs to calm her down. (so upsetting when they have wind)
Because she's feeding more often now she seems to be burping/farting easier, or maybe that's just a coincidence I'm not sure.
Anyway due for another feed now so I have to wake her. Would love to leave her to sleep so that I can go back to bed but I will be punished for that later if I do that
DH just made me some breaky (he is so wonderful what would i do without him) and then I'm off for another feed..... wish me luck!
eta - whenever she attaches i just "breathe" thru the initial pain..... it helps.
Georgi - see you and Byron today!!!

All sounding good Ren :D Yay for another big poo, that's fantastic! Yes, it's a great sign! I know how tempting it is to let them sleep, but for now she really needs that feed, and you're right, you will pay the price. One day you'll be able to let her sleep, I promise ;)
I hope you have a lovely day. Good luck tomorrow with the nurse, make sure you update us. Just a tip, maybe give Ava a feed just before you go there......

Ren Byron was very windy in his first 12 weeks (corrected). He was worse after his middle of the night feed. Unfortunately, it took weeks & weeks before it settled down. From what my Paed tells me it's very normal for some bubs to be windy like that & it usually subsides between 8 & 12 weeks.
Sounds like things are looking up for you. Yay for the poo, and I also find that Byron farts more when he's had a good feed :dunno:
Yes, breathing through the pain is a start. I do recall having to do that too.
Might leave Byron at home today. Scott is off work.

Thanks girls. You are all so supportive.
I rang the LC that Barb recommended in my area and she said "when are you due for the next feed?" and I said "about 12 I guess" and she said "ok i'm coming over then!" so she's coming over..... today is better than any other day I guess! And it's great she can come to me. So soon!!!!
Will let you know how it goes. Meanwhile I just got Ava down so I am going to have a little rest myself!!!
Georgi - ikwym re: farts! Ava has had heaps more lately straight after a feed.... if I'm feeding more often she seems to be able to fart easier
-
Sounds like a great LC already!! Hope you get lots of help!
-
Ren!! :dance:Its great to hear things are already improving for you guys!! Feels good doesnt it!!! I reckon Ava is feeling better too now after those poo's!! lol

That's fantastic Ren, she's probably there as I type!!!! Can't wait to hear how it went, make sure you update us soon :D
-
yay its great she could come over straight away...
how has it gone?
-
Ren, I've just come across your thread. I'm sorry I didn't see it earlier! The girls have given you fantastic advice and I just wanted to wish you well for the LC today. Half the battle is your determination and the rest will become easier. You are doing a brilliant job so far, so keep it up and you know where to reach me if you need any support/advice. xx
-
Ren, just wanted to say how thrilled I am for you that things are beginning to settle down. Well done, great big hearty pat on the back and good for you :D
-
Ren, how are things going hun? Sorry to be a stickybeak, I've been thinking of you lots, and wondering how you went with the LC.....
-
I'm wondering too! It's great that she was able to get over there so soon for you. I hope it's going well.
-
Just wanted to say well done! Sounds like things are getting back on track now with the feeding. Hope all goes well with the LC today.
Sometimes it takes time for everything to fall into place. Several LCs told me my technique and DS' attachment were excellent, but I still had nipple damage and pain. It took nearly 12 weeks for it all to 'work' properly....You'll get there too (hopefully sooner...)
Oh, and the wind thing tends to get worse around this time and then better again from 6-8 weeks. Just another thing for you to power through:rolleyes:
Good luck!

Hi Ren
I am certainly no Bfeeding expert and some of these lovely ladies are helping me already with my relactating journey. Just remember that it gets easier week after week and instead of thinking about that magic week number when it will all settle down for you cause atm i am sure that seems ages away, just think the next week will be more settled. You will be fast approaching some growth spurts also and don't doubt yourself like i did.
Best of luck i will PM you soon.

Ren, I hope you and Ava are going well today. Have only just discovered your thread here, sorry. I would've popped in earlier to shout, 'hurrah! hurrah!' for you, LOL! It is so tough in those first weeks - I remember finding it so very difficult. But you are already sounding so much stronger than in that first post, and it sounds like Ava is getting a little more wakeful as well.
Keep it up, matey. You are doing fabulously!!!

Hi Ren
Just wondered how you've been since the LC visited and over the day since?
Wishing you all the best!
