Yay well done Mel! :clap: Keep up the great work.... I promise you.... it is soooo worth all the hardwork in the early days/weeks (months for us anyway!!) because it just gets SO MUCH better and it's the most beautiful relationship..... so special. I just love breastfeeding and you will too..... it's an amazing journey that you both share together, you and Eden. :)

You are doing an awesome job. I was you 5 months ago, there is light at the end of the tunnel, keep going:) Throw away the clock and try to go with the flow. Keep a check on the wet nappies, offer feeds every few hours during the day and sit down with a dvd and cuppa for those long night time cluster feeds.
If you offer bub a feed through the day and she won't take it (after your best efforts), try and express instead. At least you'll get up a supply of ebm for later.
I have just seen this thread! You are doing so amazingly well!!! Congratulations for trusting your body to do what it needs to do, I know that it can be a massive hurdle, especially when you haven't fed for long with previous kids, almost 8months down the track it is something that I sometimes still struggle with!
It sounds like Eden is getting used to breastfeeding, good job on feeding without the shields, I bet one day you will just realise you don't need them at all anymore!!
WOOHOO for a week that is a lifetime in the world of early days of bf when you have had problems!!! You should be so proud of yourself you are amazing and strong!!

Not too bad, still having attachment issues, but the shields help me perservere - which probably isn't the right solution, and I should be getting an LC to come and help me, but its just hard to find the time during the day where I can actually call someone on the phone without a kid - or two kids - or all of them - screaming!!!!
So I'm just continuing on, she's feeding a lot lately, so I'm guessing 2 week growth spurt? DH put her on the scales the other night and thinks that she is over 4kg now, so has put on weight - but we will see - have to organise to somehow get her checked out, with the other two kids in tow and NOT go crazy.. haha
But yeah, I think its all going ok? I'm not engorged anymore - in the slightest - but obviously have enough milk to keep her happy!
Hey Mel - I'm happy to look after A and M while you make a phone call / take Eden to the clinic / have a quiet cup of tea :D.

- can you dh ring up the LC and organise an appointment?
- is there a time during the week when one or two of your other two, are in daycare/childcare - to give you a window of opportunity to either ring up, or go to a LC, or hopefully have an LC come to you

You're doing great Arimeh, and the early weeks are the hardest. I struggled for the first four months, felt on the edge of giving up EVERYDAY, so please don't compare yourself to people who have bf for years. Cos the first stretch IS the hardest.
I'm so happy for you that you have gotten past your first goal (of three days). We all have our personal goals that no-one else would really get, it means alot to each of us.
i understand your grief about Eden being your last, i feel that way too. I have to keep reminding myself, "don't let that grief, take away the enjoyment of the child you do have - or in your case - the children you do have".

simple things seem very hard in teh nb daze (like making a phonecall)
let alone, when you have two other children (i just can't imagine how hard that would be)
did you know the ABA has an EMAIL helpline as well? so even out of business hours, you can send off your EMAIL question to them, without phoning.
ask Sterla if she knows the contact details for the local ABA group, most groups have ABA trained counsellors to help mums with bf-ing issues. If phonecalls are too much right now, just tell people "i'm not up to that right now". If they give you funny looks, they're not worth bothering with. If they understand and offer to make the call for you, they obviously get it.

Gigi - the kids aren't attending any day care at the moment, so they are always with me :D DS will hopefully be allowed to go to one in the new year, they want him toilet trained though, which he isn't - but hopefully starts doing more stuff in that direction.
Been run off my feet today - had to drop my mum off at the airport today, so on my own with the three kids.... and I'm always rushing to do something!!!! Eden is feeding heaps today, so I sit down to feed her and realise that I still haven't changed Aricyn's poopy nappy or something similar - its quite frustrating!!!!
But I have managed to make a banana cake today (don't know if its edible or not) but Sterla is coming around for a slice this arvo - so hopefully I don't poison her.. hahahaha

Can your mchn come to your place? Mine always have for the first few weeks & even did at 6 weeks when I was having a really bad day. I think there may've been times after that too.

woohoo! :clap: What a great achievement Mel! And don't worry so much about the sheilds - as Gigi said whatever works. I used them for 9mths with DS, 3-6wks (I think?) with DD. Once they were bigger the attachment problems solved themselves and there are plenty of ladies on here who have used shields who can give you pointers on weaning if you need help when you want to stop.

It sounds like she is feeding much better now so you'll probably find she'll continue to wake when she needs to for a feed. If not though, I'd keep waking her every 3 hours during the day until you have checked that she is gaining weight again.
As for counting the feeds - you would count each "little" feed when she's cluster feeding.

She feeds at least every 3 hours - sometimes both sides, sometimes just one side. She's a bit of a catnapper though, which is annoying with 2 other kids to take care of!! There is always someone screaming at me!
