Two VBs for me, and and I was up on my feet not long after the births, so capable of doing whatever I needed to bub-wise. So no, DH didn't stay either time.
I actually had a huge room with a double bed when I had DS1, so DH spent a fair bit of time with us in the evening (we had snuggles in bed etc), but he left late evening each night. We have two pampered dogs that needed him equally as much as I did LOL. With DS2, I only had a standard hospital bed, but I didn't need DH to stay - all was going well, I was fine and so was bub. And DS1 needed him at home. I can't imagine things will be any different with this next bub.

Yep, we had a fold out couch in our room which DH slept on. I sent him home the 2nd night when DS was still in the Special Care Nursery, but then DS roomed with us for the next three nights, I found it very comforting to have DH close by.
This time DH may stay the first night depending on what time of day bubs arrives (especially if late in the day/evening) however he wants to ensure he is there for DS while I attend to the newborn so we plan for him to spend the rest of the time with DS (who will stay at Nans the first night)

DH stayed the entire time when DS was born. DS was an emergency CS at 8.00pm at night, and I have no idea how I would've managed if he couldn't have stayed that night. I guess DS would have had to spend the night in the nursery because I was bedridden :dunno: . I really liked have DH there with us, I think it really allowed him to bond with DS from the first minute and because I was bedridden I couldn't 'take over' so DH was able to build his confidence up from the beginning. I'm not sure that he would've got the opportunity if I had a VB.
This time we're booked in for a CS at 4.30pm (crappy time). So the plan is that DH will stay with us the first night so that bubs doesn't have to go to the nursery or I don't have to rely on the midwives. DS will stay at our place with his Pa. Then DH will go home first thing in the morning, take DS to childcare and then come in to be with me and bubs. He'll probably pick DS up early that day, bring him in for a visit and then stay the night with him. And will do that for the next few days until we're ready to come home. While I would love him to be able to stay, it's not fair on DS. But because DS will have CC at least he'll be able to spend most of the day with us and DS can do a couple of visits each day too. Thank goodness the hospital is 5 mins from home.

Not to sleep; but as I had a private room he was pretty much able to stay as long as he wanted. Most of the nursing staff had no idea as to whether he was around or not (they were very hands off with me; really only seeing me during the day and only at night if I pressed the buzzer).
He only left really so that he could sleep before going to work (he worked up until I left hospital). I didn't mind - I gave birth where I worked, so had MORE than enough friends to keep me company... :lol

My DH stayed the 3 nights I was in hospital with DS and it was horrible! He tried to help with DS, but I just found he was taking over with him and then he stayed in bed more than me. I really wish I had the one on one time to bond with DS. Our next baby will be born in a Birth Centre, so he will probably stay overnight. But we get kicked out after 24 hours, so unless I go upstairs to the public hospital ward, I will be going home and he will be there + my Mum and DS :)
