Tyres?? what size do i need....help!

OK, so we need new tyres, one blew the other day when dh was driving and ne nearly crashed and he is still driving with the spare.

we were going to go to the tyre shop but its over $100 per tyre and we need atleast 2 new ones.

I found some on ebay for $60 ish for 2 but i have no idea what size we need, and dh is no help. the tyres on the car now say 'micky thompson baja atz m+s 30x9.50 R 15LT' but all the tyres on ebay have stacks of other numbers like 225/75/16 etc. and i havent got a clue what those numbers are??

Our car is a mitsubishi delica, 4wd. can anyone with some car knowledge give me some advice!? PLEEEEASE!

    R15 is the rim size

It should tell you wither inside the driver side door or in the glove box.

Otherwise there are websites where you an give it the make/model and year of your car and it tells you the correct size.

hmmmm, i'm no expert but if you do a search bridgestone explain what the numbers mean....

If you buy them from ebay, you then need the special tools to put them on your car..... What about buying secondhand ones from a tyre place? Or shopping around for a good sale? Might be easier in the long run....

  4. Tyres?? what size do i need....help!

they are 15 inch wheels way too small. a 4wd would be 20 inch i think. but every car is different. Why not ring a Mitsub dealer and ask.... then you can search properly

$100 is a cheap price anyway tbh, mine for a holden stateman were $130 for retreads, which means they are used a bit, now i need a urgent rotation to ensure they wear evenly...

the fact that your tyre blew means you were driving on the mesh of the wheel, has happened to me before and is very dangerous. Could have tipped the 4wd, lucky escape i think, glad your dh is ok

225 is the width of the tyre. 75 is the % of the width in height. 16 is the rim diameter. (My DF has been working with tyres for 6 years ) and he said thats all in mm's.

Im about to burn tea lol so i cant help u with anything else atm.

Why don't you have a search for a Import forum. there are a few around. I own a Hiace import & belong to a hiace forum. I msure there would be one just for delica's also

Is it in the car manual?

  8. Tyres?? what size do i need....help!

    :

$100 is a good price. Does that include fitting and alignment? Tyres isn't something I'd buy off eBay unless u knew they were exactly what u need and know they are new.

By the way I own a Mazda 6 sedan and our tyres are nearly $180 each cause we get pirelli

Eta - hubby said that's a cheap price for a 4wd tyre. You need 15's for the car.

The Man pm'd you a link to a tyre size conversion calculator.

And sorry, this is gonna be long!

    "baja" is the tyre 'model',
"atz" is the tread pattern you have,
"30" is 30 inch diameter tyre,
"9.50" is 9.5inch across the tyre,
"R15" is 15inch wheel diameter (points to Pandora), and
"LT" stands for Light Truck tyre (thicker side wall, heavier carrying capacity).

"225" is 225mm across the tyre,
"75" means the side wall height of the tyre is 75% of the 225 measurement, and
"16" means the wheel is 16inch diameter. More points to MummaMia.

Driver's manuals and plaques are no good if the original wheel or tyre size is not kept.

If you buy them from ebay, you then need the special tools to put them on your car
I don't understand why you would need special tools to put ebay tyres on a car. <confused> It's really quite easy: You buy tyres. Take tyres in back of car to tyre shop. Pay Tyre Man (or Woman) $10 per tyre to fit ebay tyres to your wheels. Drive away with new tyres on vehicle.

they are 15 inch wheels way too small. a 4wd would be 20 inch i think. but every car is different. Why not ring a Mitsub dealer and ask.... then you can search properly
15 inch wheels are not "too small" for a 4wd. Our Patrol weighing two and a half ton full of off road gear, recovery gear, and family still uses 15inch wheels. Perhaps you ware thinking of a Porsche Cayenne. As for ringing Mitsubishi for the size, may not be of any use if the original size is not what's on there now.

retreads, which means they are used a bit
Retreads are not "used a bit". They are old tyres, with a new tread. Hence the name, "retread".

the fact that your tyre blew means you were driving on the mesh of the wheel, has happened to me before and is very dangerous. Could have tipped the 4wd, lucky escape i think, glad your dh is ok
The Man says....what the, who the, how the ...did this info make it inside someones noggin? I think what he meant to say is that tyres don't have to be worn out to blow and if this info was told to someone by a mechanic or tyre fitter, it's one of the reasons why the industry, in general has a bad name. Correct information is the most important thing, not silly ideas about how things happen. No offence to you at all M2R, it's just a shame that qualified people in the industry don't share information correctly. They can fail for a number of different reasons... you may pinch it on a gutter (at low speed) or a rock or pothole (at high speed)... the tyre may have a fault not picked up previously... the tyre may overheat...

By the way I own a Mazda 6 sedan and our tyres are nearly $180 each cause we get pirelli
No offence meant at all, but you can't compare the prices of tyres for these two vehicles. Bit like comparing a loaf of bread with a petit four. And also, the price for the same size tyre for a vehicle varies so much over the different brands, and ranges, that unless you are comparing exactly the same tyre's price from different sellers, its hard.

Was just saying how the price given was a good price. The tyre sizes were similar and I meant compared to a normal car the 4wd price was great.

I understand how tyres work. I used to work in the panel beating industry (all be it as a secretary but still picked up a few things) hubby is also in the automotive industry.

    :

Thanks Pandora. PM me when you need tyres, I'll see if I can hook you up with someone decent, or offer any more advice when the time comes.

OLP; They're not really similar in size... Mazda6 come with 205/60r16, 215/50r17, or 215/45r18 (according to a quick web search, have my full tyre listing at the workshop still). The Mickey T's are a light truck rated tyre (LT tyres are also usually sized in the imperial), and just, well, bigger. Google the image of the tyre that Beckoes has, and compare it visually with your tyres. On paper, the sizes may look similar, but they're not really.

Delica's aren't normal 4WD the tyres on those are more like a van.

  15. Tyres?? what size do i need....help!

    :

No, the tyres on a Delica can be as aggressive as a Patrol or 'Cruiser. Just as on a Patrol or 'Cruiser they can be as road-orientated tread as you like (and not suitable for off road at all!)

I mean, if you really wanted to, you could buy an off the shelf 2inch lift kit for a Commordore and stick a set of muddies under it. If that's your thing... lol

And Beckoes, you are more than welcome!

Retreads are also a really dangerous idea
I have had friends and family that have had retreads debead and peel apart causing some serious damage to the inner guard and Fender.

You are better off going a secondhand tyre that isnt a retread.
They are cheap but you will really get what you pay for. Fine for a just till you get a new Tyre, but far from good for an everyday tyre
