WAH Car shopping is doing my head in!

We looked at the ASX while shopping for our Outlander, as well as a few other options. Discarded the ASX because the Outlander had just that little bit more in terms of passenger and boot space - it'd take the two seats ok forward facing, not sure about rearward as it's often easier to have the rearward facing seat in the middle especially if you've got a ginormous seat like the S&S Meridian. It also doesn't have much in terms of boot space once you've got a pram in there there's not much room for anything else.

Friends of ours have the X-Trail which I've driven - lovely car to drive, doesn't feel big at all but still has plenty of power when you need it. Ooodles of storage and rear passenger space as well as being comfy in the front. It was definitely on our list and we very nearly bought one, just got a better deal on the car we wound up with.

As mentioned, we wound up with the Outlander - fantastic car, love it to bits :) Heaps of space in the back, had the owner of the X-Trail comment when she sat in the back even with DS's huge seat how roomy it was, plenty of boot-space even once the pram is in there and lovely to drive. Can thoroughly recommend it, doesn't feel as big as it is once you're driving it too - I'm used to smaller cars and had no trouble going from my Mazda 3 to the Outlander. I'm 5'11 and have plenty of leg-room with DS's seat rearward facing in the middle, was a bit squished when we tried it on the side but with that seat I think you'd have that problem short of buying a Patrol or Landcruiser to be honest.

I'd take the pram along while test driving as well as the car seat if you can...good luck :)

MG I went from my little Lancer to a police paddy wagon - the outlander was lovely as far as I was concerned. Still small enough to be zippy, good turning circle plenty of room.

Okay I asked my friend about the ASX today - they are really happy with it - she said it's really great to drive, really comfortable ride and handling, nice spaceous boot. They would recommend it - but they don't have small children either.

Kim, DH says the outlander is too big for me. I've always had small cars. The Mazda3 was a "big" car for me. Before that we had an Elantra, before that a nissan pulsar (super old), Hynadai accent, toyota corolla...so always small. This is a big step for me and it's scary!

Another her who loves out xtrail. I also have one rear facing and one forward facing and hubby (6ft) whinges about sitting in the passenger with the rear facing seat behind him... But it's not that bad he just likes to winge I think :)

My last car was an accent and I didn't notice the difference to xtrail. Before that I had a laser, barina and a lancer.

FWIW, I actually found the Outlander easier to drive than DHs Lancer - better turning circle for a start. And I also started with an 82 Colt, then a Barina, then my Mazda.

ASX's aren't really that much bigger inside than a lancer, but I still think they're pretty cool. DH and I were talking about Outlanders/Xtrail's the other day, and decided they would be the only SUV-y type of cars that we would buy. Plus Mitsubishi has a good warranty period too.

Here's my update.

Asx and dualis are canned. Too small (can you believe I'm saying that?!). Xtrail don't like. Mazda don't like. Just drive captiva and am considering. Tigua didn't drive as salesman was tosser and made a big deal out of "letting" us test drive. So we left and might go to another dealer but realistically it is also too small inside.

Heading off to test crv. Pooing my pants.

Have Been offered GREAT price for my Mazda from Holden which means GREAT price for a deal. Even better if I decide to use my uncles employee discount.

Does anyone have a captiva? It looks like the interior would scratch easily?

Back to your question - the plastics on the doors and sills do scuff easily when people drag feet across them getting in and out.

Omg. I'm in love. Honda crv. Have sent DH into the sales office with instructions that he is to make a deal today. The captiva felt like one of those spring bobby heads in comparison! I'm so in love with this car!!!!!!!!! I hope Santa can make my dreams come true! :happyforyou:

I test drove a CRV about a month back and absolutely loved it - higher but not climb up into a 4WD type high roomy interior and all the bells and whistles. But decided to stay with my car for the moment as I don't feel comfortable going into much debt for a car. If I had the money, I would go for it straight away.

That's my only concern ausgirl. It's 10k more than what I can get the captiva (although DH is currently negotiating). Hope he gets a good deal!

Have been following your thread!! My Mum has a CRV & loves it! We just bought a Territory last weekend and if we were only having 2 kids I would have gone for the new CRV in a heartbeat! Can't wait to hear how he goes!! Fingers crossed for you!!
