missm - did you get it from the FAO or your employer? I know your employer taxes at their own rate and if it is a big lump sum i'm worried they might take my HECS payment out too being such a big back pay.

you CAN get FTB while getting PPL - you just get part A (if eligible) - part B is not payable for those 18 weeks
if it's been more than three weeks since you lodged the paperwork you can ask for FAO to do their part under hardship guildelines - but it will still mean FAO needing to wait on your employer to accept the payments and then make them for you...
if you go back to work, you lose entitlement to PPL...
My emoter pays mine. I don't have hecs or anything else but they take $60 odd bucks from me :)
