I have watched this debate with great interest and up until now have chose not to enter it. BUT when some people decide to have a go at the high earners it makes my blood boil.
Firstly I want to say that I am glad that people on lower incomes, carers and pensioners are able to get this bonus. I do not begrudge them it at all and know that most of them will make good use of it.
But what I do begrudge is when people assume that high income earners cannot budget properly or dont require the mortgage or extras that we have.
My DH worked bl@#@Y hard to get where he is today, he comes from a non-english speaking background (was born here but went to school speaking another language), was the first in his family to go to university, and works hard now today. YES we are high earners, YES I will not receive this payment as I do not receive FTB and YES I am a SAHM. Some people will be sitting here saying, well what are you complaining about then - well guess what you dont know my circumstances, you dont know that we pay off two mortgages - ours plus my parents, you dont know that we pay for some of my sisters expenses including schooling over the years, you dont know that we have no spare money left over each month because of these expenses. So DONT TELL ME that I dont require this money as well.
At the end of the day, it is a bonus that no-one was expecting to get. So if you are getting it, good on you, make the most of it.

I think it's time to get the padlock out now. Squabbling over who works harder or deserves $1k more isn't really constructive and doesn't lend itself to a peaceful vibe.
