Hi everyone,
Well I just posted in another thread but just found this one!
Purpley - sounds like your appt went like mine! Did they say how they could tell that you weren't ovulating? My Dr didn't mention if I was or wasn't... I guess I'll find out more at my gyno appt (Feb 7). I'm wondering if my gyno will prescribe sim to yours - not sure since we don't want to conceive until July at the earliest. I'm still finishing my PhD (aiming to be done by Sept/Oct 07) and DH has this FEAR that I'll have a 'bad pregnancy' and won't be able to finish my thesis if I get preg too early this year lol.
Smuggle - I bought a basal therm today! Going to start charting even without AF. I've been told by some friends that they didn't find temping helpful though...
SuzL - good luck on Monday! Be prepared for them to want to do an internal ultrasound - it was no worse than a pap smear and is apparently the most accurate way to look for cysts etc.
I'm glad that I don't have PCOS but at the same time it's still frustrating to not know WHY AF hasn't returned. Maybe stress, maybe just coming off BCP.
At least we know that we're not the only ones!!!
Hi ladies!
SuzL good luck at the appointment tomorrow. Please drop in and let us know how you go!
Smuggle thanks for that, well the acupuncturist has given me something called white peony? it is a powder tea concoction and I am meant to go fortnightly for needles so see how that goes! good luck with the charting! How did you go at your appointment? how are you finding the journalling?
MrsP she never said why I am not ovulating but said she thinks it is a malfunction between the glands that make the hormones in the brain and the ovaries (hmm?) stress?
Good luck tomorrow Suz - hope you get some great u/s results and some useful info from the Dr.
Hey SuzL good luck today!!
Hi girls
Turns out I have PCOS. Had a horrible experience at the u/s place so I'll start another post a bit later after it all sinks in, but thanks for your concern :)
SuzL, I just want to jump in and give you a great big hug! And I feel like I should apologise in advance for potentially overloading you with information too soon!
PCOS is not the end of the world. And on the plus side, you have answers before you've even started TTC, so you're a huge step forward on a lot of other people. I found out really early in the TTC scheme of things that I had PCOS, and found out the hard way that seeing the right specialist at first is really, really important. My FS is great, but you probably don't want to go to that point straight away, particularly if you are not TTC yet.
Other things I learned the hard way - even though my PCOS appeared mild- I don't have many of the symptoms - not overweight, not hairy, no acne, etc, etc, my first lot of hormone tests were fairly normal... but the true extent of mine remained hidden for a while as I didn't have the proper testing done first off.
PCOS is caused by insulin resistance, having too much insulin in your body makes everything else not work properly, so it's important to manage things so that your body isn't constantly flooded with insulin. My levels of insulin were about 5 times higher than in a normal person, so I'm a pretty extreme case, and the reason we are doing IVF soon is because of combined issues with my DH, not just the PCOS, so don't panic on that account!
I have typed up some diet information that my FS gave me to pass on to some of the other girls with PCOS, I can send that on to you as well if you are interested. It seemed extreme at first, but since starting I'm feeling better than I have in a long time, and have lost 2kg in a week and a half. I was already in a healthy weight range (top end of it), and haven't really been working too hard at it, but it does show that it works!
Hopefully I haven't overloaded you too much, or frightened you any more than you currently are (this was meant to do the opposite!). Contact me any time - I know this is a scary place to find yourself, but it will be ok! Trust me! :)

Hi SuzL - sending you (((hugs))) and letting you know we're all here for you when you're ready to chat.
Thanks girls :) I've started a new thread in the PCOS health section - I'll stop hijacking your thread now Purpley! All the best with your journey too hun :)
SuzL big big hug for you! Wish you all the very best of luck!
