The Coloxyl is like a caramel chocolate flavour, so quite paletable :D
I agree with Taurean Suppositories are great for obstructions where there is no poo, it helped get the inital blockage out for DD2, and in conjunction with everything else got her moving a bit better in time.
I really hope she can let go soon, what time frame did the Dr's give?
How's things going Mel, has Miss K (sorry...Miss M...always think of her nickname) pooped properly yet? (God the things you think about when you're a mother....)

She is pooping once a day, but only when we give her the movicol. So I'm not sure whether to go back to the doc, I'm sure that a kilo of poop hasn't come out yet but it's a better poo colour than it was and no pellets - just sludge.
Urgh. What a subject.
Ps - lilias - don't worry, I forget sometimes that her actual name isn't kelti lol
does she poo in the loo?? im asking because getting her to sit in the correct pooing position :lol: might help to ease it out too :D
Shes not toilet trained yet. So she won't sit on the loo or potty to do anything, she will hop on, sit there for 2 seconds, hop off and say "oh well maybe next time".
Cute - but frustrating!
I would probably take her back to the doc just to be sure. I would be worried that the sludge was the only thing managing to get passed the other poo. It might be up there still.:

I was only thinking of you and your DD this morning. How's she going?
Thought I'd let you know we are finally on a roll with our DD - 2 weeks now of awesome daily (sometimes twice a day!) poos!!! After 8 months of issues, I think she's finally on the mend. What did I change? How I give her the Parachoc :D I stopped adding it to her milk and now give it to her in a medicine cup first thing in the morning when she wakes - before breaky and before a drink. She loves the taste and the little 'special' cup and inhales it! So far so good, hoping it continues. Definitely worth a shot if your DD is still having issues
She is still having issues - won't poo unless we give her the stuff to move it along. Well she DOES poo, but in nuggets.
Keep up with the treatment as one day off it can put you back to square one. Kids with poo issues and or fears often need to be medicated for months before they can be weaned off it. I've known that all along but have learnt the hard way :rolleyes: I'll be sticking with our routine for a couple of months at least now before I try weaning DD off the Parachoc.
I just found this thread and have to put my hand up as another who has been through the trauma of a little one with chronic constipation.
I went through heaps of guilt about diet, heaps of doctors who were useless and all the basic remedies such as pear, prune, water, fiber etc without any change. As you realise now and others have mentioned it was psychological so none of the usual remedies helped (although they may have in the early acute stages)
I just want to second the advice of Taurean, keep up the treatment. I found that if I wasn't dosing every day we were right back at square one. I felt so guilty about having to administer medication (It was parachoc in this house) so I was really avoiding it unless necessary. Finally an appointment with a pead specialising in gastrointestinal issues - 'The poo doctor' in his words - put my mind at ease by explaining that parachoc is not dangerous, it is simply a lubricant. Your DD's bowels will not become lazy if you use it as some other laxatives may do, and your DD will not become dependant on it if you use it until the psychological trauma is over then wean her off it slowly and carefully.
By the sounds of it you have to firstly get the mass of poo out, secondly get her over the fear of the pain of a poo and thirdly get her bowel muscles heathy enough again so that she is able to 'evacuate' properly. (I love poo jargon ;)) I really think you should ask your GP for a referral to see a pead specialist. It is such a long term thing to deal with and really simple in the end but it is surrounded by such misinformation and guilt! I cannot tell you how relieved I was to get good, real, research based advice and how much easier it was to sort out my DD's issues when I had the right approach and support.
My DD was on Parachoc for 6 months in the end then weaned easily. We have not had another issue since!!! As a matter of fact, she had a run of the mill bout of constipation the other day and didn't bat an eye lid. This proved to me we were over it as she seemed to have no memory of what we went through 18 months ago.
With regards to the warnings about parachoc and lying down, by all means be cautious but don't get too bogged down in the two hour rule. My pead mentioned that many other things can be fatal if aspirated including OJ but there are not warnings on a bottle of juice. Be aware, use reasonable judgement but don't let it stop you using the stuff.
Hang in there and keep at it and you will get there. Plus, please don't feel guilty about it. Look at how many of us awesome mums here have been going through or are going through the same thing. As Keike wisely mentioned earlier, all of your kids eat the same food (I imagine :)) and only one is suffering the constipation. In the case of chronic constipation it it not about the fiber you feed them, the water they drink or the amount of fruits and veg they consume but about the fact that one day, once it hurt to poo and the poor little mite remembers that. She isn't silly!
I am also going to suggest pear juice. It's meant to be so effective that a breastfeeding mother can eat pear or drink pear juice and it can relieve constipation in a breastfed baby.
Great advise Jackrose. When it's psychological, the usual remedies just won't work.
We have been given all the same info about Parachoc that Jackrose has. Please don't be afraid to use it and for some time if required. it's taken me 8 months to wrap my head around the guilt, confusion and disbelief despite being told all the facts by my GP three times, a friend who is a GP, a friend who is a pharmacist and two other pharmacists. Finally I've 'given in' :lol: and we finally have progress. I should have just listened in the beginning AND stuck with the Parachoc daily until we had several months of consistency. In my defense though, lol, I think changing the way we administer the Parachoc has made all the difference though :)

As I mentioned before, my DS was on Movicol jr. for about 9 months (long, i know!) so this is my experience:
DS was having a lot of problems with soiling and wetting his pants - he still wasn't toilet trained at 4. We realised (took us a little while) that he was having problems with his bowel movements and would wet himself when there was a large movement pushing on his bladder. So the doctor prescribed Movicol jr. We were told to take one sachet per day and to watch his movements from then on and up or down the dose until we found a dose that was working. We started off with half a packet and then upped to 1. I agree it tastes foul, but the doctor suggested mixing a bit of apple juice into it, that worked a treat. We were told to give him the Movicol every day for a minimum of 6 months as his bowel was stretched and needed time to go back to its original size. If we stopped the Movicol the problem would just return.
After the 6 months we went back and they suggested continuing the Movical for another 3 months just to be on the safe side. Movicol (jr) is apparently harmless. It stops the water it's mixed with from being absorbed into the bowel, softening the stools. So I don't think mixing it with food would work (?).
DS has now stopped taking it and is pretty regular. The amazing thing was, after a couple of weeks of starting it he no longer soiled or wet himself - including nights!
My DS was on Parachoc for over a year. I totally agree with Jackrose about the nature of Parachoc. Good luck.
