Sore penis

DS often has a sore penis on and off, only had one full blown infection though. The tip being red when he complains its sore. He is known to be lazy when it comes to pulling his foreskin back and shaking it off or drying it with paper which in turn leads to wee being left under the foreskin which then warm moist environment allows things to grow an get irritated. Once he washes it off properly and uses proper hygiene it stops hurting - until next time he gets lazy!

So maybe I need to get him to do something with the foreskin?? If its getting wees trapped in it?

DH says he knows nothing about it as he's circumcised :(

Ds3 has a man-made foreskin thanks to urologist who repaired his hypospadias when he was an infant so not quite the same thing as your son. I noticed it was red and tight, took him to the gp who diagnosed ballanitis and prescribed topical antibiotics which cleared it up in no time. I don't know if it was related to his surgery or poor hygiene but the fix was quick and easy. I recommend a trip to the gp. If he recommends a urologist I can suggest one in Melbourne.

could be a few things
- wee could be burning him- has he been eating or drinking lots of acidic foods- apples, orange, vinegar, salt, juices, tomatoes -his wee could be acidic and burning him- try a half sachet of ural to take away the sting in his wee when this happens and will making it pass not so burning-
- not enough water- easy to forego the water in this weather and could be making his wee stronger !!!
- could have a small cut on his penis and the wee stinging- get a cream from the chemist called- calmospetine- its a barrier cream as well as a soothing, healing cream
- also salt bathe him- the salt will ease any stinging as well as anti bactierial -
- encourage some nudie time to give the area some air as well

you can tell if he has an infection by the smell and the colour of his wee. get him to pee in a clean container- it will give you an idea if its too strong, cloudy or smelly. When DS gets infection ( he has had over 50 of them) his wee gets cloudy and smells, and even sometimes has blood in it. Also his behavour is really off.

If you have any concerns, the first step your GP will take will be to get a renal U/s of area to see if any reflux etc. You can get this on at DV hos, just opp watermarc- they bulk bill too!!
will infections, if you go when they first start, they might be getting an infection but it may be too early to grow a bug. Get them to check the wee and tell you the nitrites and leukocytes numbers- this may indicate a UTI even if they cant grow a bug!!!

How's your DS1 going OP?

He has been ok these last few days! I had a chat about how if he holds his wee it can leak and make it bit sore and have been encouraging him to go whenever I see him doing his "wee dance" or jiggling about. Hopefully we might be on to something...
