    Sore tummy?

DD3 woke crying about 11 last night. She was in pain, crying ow, ow, ow I got a dose of nurofen into her & she finally went back to sleep after about an hour crying. I couldn't get her to tell me where it hurt, but her hands kept going to her belly. I thought maybe nappy rash or something the way she was squirming when I picked her up.
I thought maybe ear ache, or sore throat, but I really didn't know. I just know something hurt & it hurt bad She's never cried ow like that before.

She woke the same at about 5am. This time I couldn't get the nurofen in & she ended up crying herself to sleep after about half an hour

This morning she's awake. Not in pain & crying, but telling me her belly hurts & not wanting me to leave her.

    No other symptoms. No vomitting/diarrhea/fevers...

I'm really worried that its appendicitis or something & that coz she's so little & can't tell me where exactly it hurts I'll miss it. I doubt that'll happen, but I'm a bit worried. I've never had a belly ache this bad in the house without there being vomitting or something as an explanation...

Any idea's? I'll be in town today, so if I'm worried I'll drop in & see the doctor. I'm at a loss here. I'm usually pretty onto whats wrong with the kids & I don't like not knowing

ETA - she's filling her nappy right now, so I don't think she's constipated

Does she feel better after doing a poo? DS will do this exact same thing. For him its usually either constipation, or growing pains. I hope she feels better since you posted this morning.

    Yeah, she seems ok now
Must've been something different she ate I guess?

My DD gets this and the pain is only ever at night. They xrayd her and tell me she is constipated (which I can see on the films but don't agree with). When DD gets it, she still poos and it is often loose to runny.

If it is constipation for your DD, it may be that she was cramping to try and move the poo. Try to up her water intake and see if that helps.

    Poor Poppet

Just on this, did they take the time to explain the constipation cycle with you? It's not uncommon for constipated kids to have runny poos when badly constipated (referred to as overflow - that is the soft poo from the top is travelling down around the hard poo and out), it is unfortunately part of the cycle. If you record the motions, you will find a lot of the time constipated kids go from runny overflow, to hard stool, to normal stool, to runny overflow and around and around again. A lot of times constipation will present as soiling for this reason, so parents think their children have the runs, lazy etc when the underlying problem is they are impacted.

Yeah, the poo wasn't normal. So I think it may've been a bit of constipation. I'm trying to up her water, but I hope more BM is good enough, coz she's not a big drinker of much else.

She's having the occasional cows milk drink & only started a few days ago, so might have something to do with that. Hope its not so bad tonight.
