Hey Netix yep gel to colour. Again the americolour is best. Most people I know use their KA mixer dough hook to knead in colour. I tend to do both. And I do ziplock bags for small batches.
Love the train. Very cute!
That is a very cool train!
Rouge; I had a brain fade and couldn't remember if the colours were a gel or paste. I didn't end up getting any from the cake shop when I was in Melbourne! I don't have a KA, or a machine with a dough hook. :( I need to don gloves! ;) Ziplock bags, what a great idea! I will be using that idea this week at least!
Netix if you can get some Tylose powder for fiddly things. I bought some on march and its a godsend. It turns the fondant into gumpaste which means when doing characters and finely rolled fondant (for 2D decorations etc it doesn't tear or melt in your hands). I add more or less depending what I want to do with it. The more you add the harder it will dry.
I did the black fondant by hand and I didn't have any gloves. My hands were PRETTY! Also for bolder colours it's recommended to colour the fondant a few days before so the colours can intensify and set. And with Wilton colours you need to build up with some colours to make them pop. For example for black fondant you do it blue, then purple, then black. Where as with americolor you only need the colour you want it to be.
Thanks for the tips Rouge! Most appreciated. It's just been organised that Thursday is cake day. We'll be using ordinary food colour, should I het my friend to make up the coloured fondant tonight/tomorrow?
I'd say that's a good idea. If you aren't wanting really bold colours it should be fine either way.
Here is the Jake and the Neverland Pirates cake I decorated for my friend. She made a chequerboard cake (red, blue, green), three layers, and I put the same blue Vienna cream in between the layers as I used for the piping. My friend said the cake "made her day". Which made me super happy. :)
that looks fabulous!
Fantastic!

Not sure if this is going to work, but this is a pic of a wedding cake I made last year. I was very pleased with it but it was the most nerve wrecking cake I have ever made
this would have to be my second favourite
