Oooh, Jols how exciting! Um, I had two x-small (Rikki) and two eenees snibs for when he was little, and that was JUST enough. 5-6 would be better I think. What sort of nappies are you planning on using? Remember that I used flats the entire time (and sposies when out and about in the early months) so I really should have bought more covers.

I wouldn't have thought that you would ever have a huge baby LOL so you might well find that you need the x-small covers, but I wouldn't go crazy getting heaps. Stock up more on the small size. N wore smalls for aaaaages. It's hard to know buying online because with the Motherease they state that the x-small and small are for the same weight range!!!! What's with that? Anyway, they are definitely a different size.

Did you use snibs last time?

sez i didnt use cloth til she was around 5 weeks then it was into pockets, they did leak, adn fitteds with covers, happy to use the pockets again just want ot use a cover over the top!! i also have a few AIO's and prefolds for this time!! cant afford 5-6 motherease!! well maybe i can!!

As you know, I really think the Motherease are worth it, we NEVER had a blow out from one until he was like 10 months or something! So I figured it saved me from all that extra washing ;)

i guess the resale would be ok as well wouldnt it!!

i am SOOOOO addicted to these cloth nappies it's NOT funny, even though i don't have a bubs bum in the cloth nappies yet, i am still addicted to buying them :D i just bought another 2... sooo shhhhh don't let my hubby in on this purchase :D

Sooo.. I'm going to try a BB Bamboo for night time tonight.... and just wondering, cos he is a big wetter, I was going to use two long boosters, and one short one... so should I just clip the long ones at the back and at the front and slip the short one in between, and then have a wool cover on the outside?? Or any other better ideas?? I haven't used one for night time yet...

Mel...Cooper is a heavy wetter and I use the BBB for nights. I use the long and short in the nappy and another booster between the nappy and wool cover..works well for me.

The night booster or just regular long one? Cos I have a thicker booster but its wet... like all my others!!!

i find that with DD - the short and long snap in booster (the long one in thirds to the front) and then a BBB booster (the big square type) folded in half before the wool cover, is more than enough. we have done this twice and without the extra booster between nappy and cover twice and neither has wet through to the wool cover :)

but i also find that DD hardly wets through after 3-4 hrs the long booster if it is doubled at the front. The small booster is always dry during the day. so maybe she isnt a big wetter

Yeah everytime I have changed him after his nap when he has worn it through the day it is all soaked. But I don't think he is peeing too much of a night time now - think he might be getting to that age where he holds it better, and just lets the fire hose go in the mornings... LOL

I might have to hunt around for another thing to boost it with... or can you put that night booster in the dryer ok?

I totally forgot I got some fluff in person too today - a goooorgeous knitted soaker from Carrie (BB regular, some of you, JANIE :lol:, know her), she knitted it when her DD was in cloth, it's soooo perty & 2 different kinds of purple! My first knitted piece of nappycoutre!! Have given up on getting my gran to knit us longies & have told my Ma she's doing it now lol, just have to print out some destructions & post them to her from NC.

Janie, Am sooooooo amazed that a BBH unboosted gets you through the night! That is true awesomeness! They are frikkin great nappies though, I'll give them that.

Has anyone tried Cute Tooshies at night or would that just be silly?? I can't get over how lubbly & cuddly they are, don't even want to pre-wash... just keep them here with me to pat!

QM the CT goes bad after its been washed, it was so much nicer before... it took me a week to wash mine and the whole time i was thinking, can i wear a bamboo nappy? :rofl:

Ok.. drum roll... the BB Bamboo is on the butt... boosted with long and short, and because my night booster didn't dry in time... another long one between the outside and wool cover... we'll see how this goes..

And I just have to say I'm a fan of the flats!!!!! He just did his first poo in a flat.. awww.... it even went on the cover..... cute.... (but I'm dying for my little squirt cos it does NOT come off the flats easy.. lol)

I am loving mine!!! Since DD is back on formula and after her blueberry smoothie yesterday she has the blackest green poo... and it all came off with the LS!!! woohooo!!!

Does anyone know if calico is absorbant enough for prefold flats?

Limey - we've had roll off poos here too, but they didn't last long! Now we're back to the poos that look like a four wheel drive has driven over them and mashed them into the nappy liner! so at 20 months old, i still am very grateful for LS -ness every single day. Oh bring on the roll off poos to this household!!!!!

Gudism - you might have four night nappy options, but if you are chasing your tail, to have something actually dry to use, pet, i said love, i said pet, you sound like you need a quicker drying night time solution. Maybe a night pocket or a night all in two. Chasing laundry is no fun.

my CT's have stayed soft inside and out, i put it down to putting them in the drier for last 5 mins. Do you have a drier CookieMonster?

Pink Palace - well if your dh is still poopy, and he's putting on PUL pockets with aplix - well - there are no words for what i'm thinking!! Bubs is not a puppy you give to the RSPCA cos you've changed your mind! If you sign up for being a parent, cleaning up poop is part of the contract!!

WOTBB: nicNaps night nappy (no longer made) but still working well. Polar fleece pocket with hidden PUL layer, only aplix closure nappy we own, only have it on bilbs under a sleepign bag so she can't undo the aplix, cheeky bilbs.

oh new person, Noni is it? The peapods that are losing their leakproofness - have you done a strip wash? Sometimes, MCN products do this, due to a buildup of washing detergent. the remedy is to do a strip wash, you wash the peapods (in this case) in mild dishwashing detergent and rinse until no more suds. THis strips the buildup of too much washing detergent.

Washing MCN - only use HALF the amount of washing detergent you normally would use for clothes washing - that's why a separate nappy load is necessary. If you wash your nappies with the clothes (with double the amount of washing detergent) you can get the buildup (which causes the MCN to be less waterproof).

i dunno your wash routine etc, just putting out there, the usual suspects for what you have described. It may not be that at all, there are other possibilities, but i ahve described the most common culprit.

Pink Palace - what you asked - why is the pocket nappy less absorbent than fitted + cover on your bub? Many people swear by the "two lines of defense" style of MCN, using a fitted and cover. Especially with newborns. I know your gal is not a newie, but you have described her as a light wetter before - i dunno. If she can still use a BBB for a night nappy, i think your description is spot on.

Stuffing a pocket - there is more of a science to this that i realised. In my first six months of using pockets, i read up quite a bit on Nappycino about this - got lots of tips, made so much difference.

Cooper had a shocker last night.........he was in his BBB as usual with the wool cover and woke at 3 absolutley saturated, hes hasant done that in ages, I checked his nappy and Dh had used to long boosters both folded in the front, dont know if this would have been too bulky and caused a leak or if it was just a one off..........please let me get fluffy mail today. I was hoping my tax would be in but no, yet centerlink received my totals from the ato on friday.

YEs gigi she is a light wetter... i dont even think her nappy was wet on waking up this morning... i hope she is ok. Maybe the BBB just hold wetness smell well?

Our covers were posted yesterday.. so hoping for tomorrow or friday to arrive ( i will let you know).

So i am thinking of holding off on the prefolds for a litle bit... seeing how i go...i am up to 48 fitteds/aio's , and maybe that willbe enough for 2 in cloth????

I'm so totally confused about what my boy's body is doing!!!! The nappy this morning was totally dry - like I even stuck my hand on it, and no wetness whatsoever... so didn't appear that he had done a pee. I changed him expecting the morning flood, and OH MY LORD.... he totally flooded a mother-ease AIO... Holy hell.... he was saturated...

I'm guessing they do reach a stage that they don't pee as much during the night? I mean, if they didn't how would you toilet train them the difference between night and day?? I have no freakin idea what is going on!!! He used to pee heaps.. now is not.... its quite frustrating!!! :wall:

Mel id pop in on the potty first thing if the nappy is dry!!! see if he pee's in that! saves soaking a nappy

AJP - its depressing to think that he's old enough for a potty!!! Where has my little baby gone... :(
Seriously though, I don't know if he would actually sit on the potty in the cold... lol Even though its QLD its still pretty chilly in our house (no insulation - 45 year old house) should I get his sippy cup of milk ready first and offer it to him at the same time as sitting on the potty?? well our BBH were notwashed last night so we had to resort to a pea pod with a night booster.. idk whats happened to my pea pods they used to be really good but they pretty much always leak now!! sux because i have 4 of them! which dosnt sound like many but my mcn stash is rather small.. i did have 3 BBH but the inserts from one of them are missing.. i emailed the company and they told me they could send me some majic alls inserts so i could atleast use the nappy again and that they would put some studs on them so they button in so thats something but idk if i can still use it at night now :(
got 2 ittis as well and an extra set of inserts which i love and get used all the time i am hoping to get more but we dont have much money atm so with all my covers missing too(suspecting someone had fun taking things off my clothes horse or there was a very strong wind that blew them far faraway..) weve been juggling with sposies and the very few mcns i have and the sposies are actually making her rash bleed (she has really sensitive skin).. luckily its pay day today and i am off to the shops to just buy some cheap covers for now so that she can go back in the flats at home..
so theres my nappy dramas atm lol..
gudism - ohhh tt they grow up so fast dont they!!! its a very individual thing tt if you think it would help to give him his sippy on the potty than give it a go all kids are different with what works for them.. trial and error really.
pinkpalace - i find my BBH smell really strong after a night sleep but she is a heavy wetter it is soaked by the end of her sleep..

PP- i wouldn;t think calico was absorbent enough..... but i am noooo expert. I got some bamboo prefolds from BBH and they worked well. i got some cotton ones, and they wouldn't even last one wee for us.

I just got back from the school run........hoping at least 1 of my fluffy mails had arrived and NONE :(

Longies can def be knitted (or crochet) if you google andrey doodlepants there is a free pattern you can use. its the one i got my grab to knit from,


Oh well good news here Mj has gone back to only wanting to feed once a night, we were feeding every 2-3hrs for the last couple of days and I was drying out so on Motilum stuff atm.

*Noni*e*- have you tried strip washing your pockets??? umm i cant remember but possibly a cycle through the dryer may help with the laminate too (plase dont quote me on that)

If you are knitting your own soakers, do you have to use 100% wool or will an acrylic blend do the same job once its lanolised?

Does anyone know of a store that sells a cover pattern (sewing) that emails you the pattern once you have paid for it?
