here is my "useful mcn stuff to buy at nb stage" list for you

- sensitive, low irritant washing powder e.g Aware Sensitive by Planet Ark (available at supermarkets)
- wetbag for going out (even in first week, i had to visit hospital, change baby few times while i was there, so wetbag came in handy IMMEDiately.
- microfleece liners to put inside your nappies - if your local Spotlight doesn't have it (they usually stock it in winter only), you can buy it online at places like nappiescovered - just yell out if you can't find it and PM me for more ideas
- Little Squirt - it's a plumbing attachment you put on your toilet - like a water gun, so you can squirt the poo OFF the nappies, and DOWN the loo
- bamboo prefolds, bamboo trifolds, bamboo foldups, bamboo inserts
- PUL covers with leg gussets to catch that runny, explosive, all directions nb poo. brands that make these include bambino mio, imse vimse, motherease rikki, bummibrites, thirsties.
- baskets to put on a shelf, labelled
"prefolds"
"covers"
"liners"
so when you are in the nb fog of no sleep, it's a no brainer, what to use and dh's have no excuse not to know where to find stuff!
- a squirty spray bottle to keep near change table, to wet a wipe with at change time. at the start, changes are so frequent, this will save you some time
- join australian breastfeeding association, they have a good education class too
- join nappycino forum
- join ozclothnappies yahoo group
(plua belly belly of course, then you will never be short of places to ask all the gazillion questions you will have, and many supportive mums to talk to).

using flats, which are bulky, you might need a SMALL cover immed
using bamboo prefolds, which are trim, you might need NB covers immed

i highly recommend the cloth breastpads, the sposie ones irritated my nipples, the cloth ones were wonderful.

Ammended to say - woot! it worked! i'm so happy! i share "anti rash" stuff to soooo many people (which i thought included you), i think i had assumed you woulnd't want to hear from me, all over again about the same topic. I feel like i bore the same people to death with the same info, or don't say it when it's needed (like in your case) by accident. bangs self in head on nearest door. You have been asking for help for ages, and i assumed you had already tried all the suggestions i give out, which clearly wasn't the case at all. i feel so bad, helping lots of strangers and then YOU need the help, and i mistakingly thought you already knew this stuff e.g had tried natural liners adn they didn't work - or something like that. i do feel like a goose now.

ll80 - have you thought of adding a bamboo or hemp booster to a pocket nappy or boosting a fitted? I sometimes use a boosted BumG or Pocket Change overnight (when all the NN are wet) or for long car trips because DS can wet thru a BBB in under an hour.

Kerrie - you can cut the Eenees liners in thirds probably for NB size (but I couldn't be bothered), because if you cut it in half widthways it's too wide and lengthways it's too narrow. Personally, I prefer the softer Bummis or totsbots ones that are just the right size. JMO!

other critters too, but no cows - bad luck to the moo mad gals.

i saw it by searching for ladybird baby shoes.

and if you want to dress your kid up like a bee, i found gazillions of bee inspired baby stuff at the annegeddes site - it's a US site and has no country letters o nthe end.

I have a few green kids pockets which she uses overnight for around 7 hrs atm
in it i put the GK bamboo insert & booster as well as the microfibre booster that came with bumg pocket.
it's soaking by the time she wakes up and sometimes so full it leaks, i also prefer not to have PUL on her for too long, especially as I don't think it will be long before she is sleeping 12 odd hours

so far i am thinking the cute tooshies is the way to go for the side snaps which seem to fit better on her and its all bamboo

Laura - Green Kids Minkys are for overnight as well if you are worried about the PUL being on her all night. I use the minky ones for DS.

for those using moo goo for eczema and psoriasis - not sure if you got their email, but they have a new cream specifically for these now

nappy wise - i'm with Rayray - what does everyone recommend for making wipes - i ordered some last night, but not sure if i should jsut get some material myself and get them overlocked... i know i'll need a few, but have no idea HOW MANY i need, and whether i'm best sticking to the little ones or should get some bigger ones...

Gigi - You no doubt told me about the liners but I may have missed it or skimmed it... your posts are a wealth of info & my brain is only so big lmao. How great is it that it's working though?! I've been so happy about it all day.

Maz - Ooooh on the tutu - I am going to be making some soon!! Will have to post pics, just waiting for my netting to arrive.

Cheeky Monkey - The WAHM that used to make Cushie Tushies was absolutely swamped before they outsourced. They spent 6 months researching and were very picky about conditions. They are also being very picky with the standard of work that comes out. I have some of the older ones and some of the newer ones, and TBH the only differences are the mini booster is bigger in the new ones, and the inner is all microfleece, whereas the old minky ones had the matching mini booster. They still last just as long on and are still just as absorbent. If we have any issues with broken snaps (I had 1 on 1 of my old ones and 1 on 1 of my new ones) they get fixed pretty quickly.

Em is still quite rashy from the bikkies she stole the other day. So I have put zinc and a sposie on her for bed :( Oh well, I hope she is all clear by morning for daycare!!

BG I made most of my wipes from flanellette and terry towelling. They aren't as lush and soft as some of the ones we have bought, but they work, and sometimes the little bit rougher is needed for poo removal.

Nearly time to tackle Sarah for bed.

ll80 - i absolutely love my swaddlebees organic velour one size fitteds. so much that i have just lay byed 7 more (dont tell DH!!) that will make 10 of them, i like these much more than the sized ones of the same brand.

I went and got some paw paw cream too cause chub-boy Rip has chaffing, its a yellow label/white tub - thats the right one yeah? cause the health food guy assured me no petrochemicals etc etc.

well I am back from my trip. missed the maz stocking but scored 2 daydreamers at the WC stocking... and some laundry powder. I love the powder, i brought a 2kg bag on the 18th of december and its only just ran out! that is washing with 3 kids and 2 adults!

AnnaT nurofen is ok. Doesn't stain :) Only panadol/dymadon. Look in the ingredients for SORBITOL. Thats what stains.

QM I love out minky magicalls!! We had the old style smooth and they leaked yadayada but the new ones with the boosters and pockets are so much better!! The minky ones we have had on overnight 'accidentally and not a leak!

Oh phew cool then I can get back to cloth.

Funny how having sposied the boys for most of their lives, such a short time in MCNs makes me go nuts when sposies are used :lol:

Hmm no sorbitol in the paw paw salve, only fermented pawpaw (carica papaya), water, Rhus Succedanea wax (Japan Wax Tree), glycerine, canola oil, hydrogenated castor oil, beeswax, corn starch. Nothing there to send up red flags? Cause Dh used normal powder with one of my BP this morning and I nearly passed out hehehe I washed it straight away and luckily he rubs it in before nappying so I should be right to not strip wash?

people asking about the wipes:
i like the small (e.g 20 x 20cm) thin ones for wee changes and the bigger (facewasher size) ones that are thicker for poo changes, so i like to have some of both.

• having a soft absorbent fabric on one side e.g flannelette, cotton velour, bamboo velour
• having a loopy absorbent fabric on the other side (e.g terry of some sort)

is what i find useful. cos it's not just about cleaning the bot, you need to leave that bot DRY, cos one thing i learnt when bilby had dreadful nappy rash, was the IMPORTANCE of making sure your baby's bot is DRY before you put the next nappy on. I had not been doing that (at that time) and therefore, was providing the Nappy Rash with ideal conditions to continue and grow! bacteria loves moist, dark, damp conditions. So patting her dry with a cloth wipe AFTER cleaning her, i give her a good chance NOT to have nappy rash (now that i've been educated!!).

Whoever got the Spotlight staff member giving them blank looks about Little Additions micropolar fleece - they only stock this predominantly in winter - other times of year, i would go straight to mcn supply websites like fairy fabrics, nappies covered, wrigglebots and check there for microfleece. it's not expensive stuff, just not always easy to source.

Katones - each time bilby teeths, she gets ACIDIC TEETHING POOS. they literally burn her skin, just like a burn mark! the INSTANT the poo comes out, in contact with her buttocks. It's awful, and nothing you can do, except change them ASAP they poo - makes you feel awful when you see the burn marks on their toosh, but nothing to do but wait it out. I remember being told by midwives at the postnatal depression clinic TO LEAVE BILBY, IGNORE HER when she screamed for 30 mins straight - i just KNEW she was teethign, and wanted to check for the acidic teething poo - they were telling me she would never sleep if i "gave in" to her all the time, but i KNEW the screaming was pain, not attention. Finally i went in, (to their very loud disapproval) and yes, she had horrible burn marks on her bottom. I cannot tell you what i think of their "controlled comforting" bs.

1180 - i prefer not to use PUL for night time. i am assuming that the MInkytimes by greenkids have a minky outer, but a hidden layer of PUL.

when a PUL nappy is saturated, e.g the absorbent layers of the inserts are 100% wet, there is nowhere else for the moisture to go, so the PUL will wick, get wet.

when a fitted and wool cover is saturated, e.g the absorbent layers of the fitted nappy are 100% soaked, the next place the moisture goes, is into the wool. the wool can soak up 30%. That is why you will often see wool covers referred to as "soakers" - cos they are capable of "soaking" up moisture.

Wool adn waterproof fleece breathe better than PUL too.

i was unable to use day time fitteds (like baby beehinds OSFA) as a night nappy very early on. i worked it out, by how long those nappies lasted my dd IN THE DAYTIME. if the nappy lasted two hours in the day, no way i could use it as a night nappy.

i read posts everywhere, on various forums, about people using day time nappies and PUL covers for night time nappies, and their frustration when it doesn't work for their child. I don't know what to say, except, if you have a medium to heavy wetter, night nappies are a very good thing. There are some for whom day nappies boosted and a pul cover will do it for overnight, but every bub has their own level of night wetting, and lengths of sleep too.

It's obvious that i would n't use PUL on a bub overnight, but if you do, i am sure i read on the Greenkids site, for overnight use, to use TWO bamboo greenkid inserts. i should go check that. make sure i just didn't dream that up before passing it on to you!

Kitten - i have a friend who used nothing but sized SB fitteds and covers for her nb/small stage too. then went onto the SB pockets for the medium and large stages. whatever suits your child - all power to that. Sized SB's have suited bilby well, cos of the narrow crotch design. the OSFA SB are such a different animal, i enquired about the crotch width, no way would they suit bilbs.

Eugenia - did you get the elephant shoes? i was spitting chips they weren't in bilby's size. i would have got the ladybird ones, or the tulips, or the strawberries.

BG - will let you know if i see moo shoes!

whoever said about moo goo have nappy rash cream now, thanks for that, i'm out of their hair products (and the anti ageing cream which i find is a great moisturiser, i really don't expect it to take off wrinkles!) so i might just add NR cream to the order now. I have just bought some SUKIN hair products to try, to get me past the "run out of moo goo" stage. SUKIN is also a no paraben, no sodium laureth sulphate, no nasties type brand, easier for me to get IRL shops where i am.
