How much do you add Lea?
 - DPs mum has done the nicest thing and offered to start pre-washing my nappies and the clothes we have recieved so far... that is a great and wonderful thing right...
Then why is it that I can't say "thanks, that would be great - here are the washing instructions and things you will need"
I can't describe how I feel about it properly but part of me is TERRIFIED she will do something wrong and my precious, precious fluff will be ruined before being pooped in... last night she was mentioning she would get some napisan and bleach, I quickly responded that I would provide the things needed as MCNs are quite different to other cloth nappies.
A couple of questions for you lovely ladies:-
* can she wreck my fluff if she follows the directions?
* if she decides directions are not required and does her own thing... will I be strip washing for the rest of my life?
* how will I know if she hasn't followed the directions... I suppose when there is wee and poo everywhere in 3 months time?
DP thinks I am overreacting and I think I might be too... but I did want to do this myself and am now being bagged out my DP and his family because last night I said "thanks but it is ok I am going to do the prewashes on the weekends" - this was shot down with "mum is retired... and she wants to help - just let her help".... and that is when my anxiety started - thanks for reading my vent
Can anyone offer reassurance to me...  please
kitten- i got 3 FBs, 1 for me & 2 for the goatlady. but i finally get a nappy in the choc/blue bubbles minky which ive been dying for (1st it was the actual minky, then it was the DM stocking) think i might still get the minky & make it a set, pretty sad i know...
mel- i use canesten in every other wash in the fabric softener dispenser. depending on how much nappies i have in the wash but it varies between 1-2 capfuls. I think usu i use 1 cap when i use detergent & 2 caps when its just straight hot water
tk- bleach & napisan is really unneccesary & can wreck mcn from what i know. mebbe tell her to just do hot washes no detergent?? dw abt the anxiety attack, im like that when the ILs come back for visits. Im even scared to let them change monsta as what if they do it too tight or too loose (there had been issues with loose nappies when he was in sposies)? im sure MIL means good so maybe just tell her the nappies dont need anything extra as they r new?! and oh...babies are sensitive to detergent & chemicals so only a teeny weeny bit will do. maybe they will take it easier as its for the bubs good? hope it goes well.
I got fluffy mail woooooooooooooooooot!!! GF, Wild child and snoozywun .
X and I went to the shops, she peed through her magicall, and clothes, and my close carrier, and jumper... so i put her in the carseat and she pee'd through that. It's been a great start to my wedding anniversay . But fluffy mail makes it all better!!!

tk - NO ONE bar jed and I wash our MCN's..MIL has tried and luckily she listen to me but I just get to anxious about it. Rhoda makes a good point aobut saying no detergents....use it hon :)
Mel - yes thanks to sammi I now use it. love it no more pee stenched BBH's
IVe got 2 clothes lines full of nappies atm...all wet and not drying quickly...praise the lord for my um big stash lol
WOMB - cowboy auriel
Maz - you have a preggo belly in your siggy?
TK - my mum helped out pre washing blankets, sheets, clothes etc - all without using detergent. i did all the nappies myself. mum kinda looked at me like i was odd, but i said it was something i was going to have to do daily and i was doing it myself. when it came to washing them, i did them all in water only. i didn't see much point in using detergent for a prewash. actually,i used a small amount of ecostore powder first wash (to get rid of manufacturing stuff) and then only water. i explained i needed to learn for myself how long everything took to dry do that i'd know for later whether i had enough nappies and stuff!
either tell your MIL to wash everything without detergent (it's safe that way) or tell her it's something special for you to do. i felt horrible letting mum wash the stuff - it felt like something special i wanted to do but was too damn sick with the pg so i had to give in - it is something i'll never get back! do what feels right to you - don't let DH or the IL's push you one way or the other hun
:hiding:
so...it is?

Mazaroooooooo???!!!!!????!!!!
I'm now putting this together with one of your other posts and this is all I have to say :o :o :o
Oh and congrats?!
Sweets - if you have a skinny bub like mine there will be wee and poo everwhere even if they were done properly.
MAZ - OMG OMG OMG!!!! Pink vibes babe!!!!!!!! Did you sniff it?? Surprise babies rock!!!
Leah has figured out how often NB should poo. Most feeds now mean a poo change too. gotta love that sound...not.
Anna - anything huge I will try to let you know ;) Will put Leah in cloth tomorrow night, easier than disposing of sposies when out, and far cuter.
:hide:
Canestin! Yes I use it and have for a couple of months. Not sure if it's a bad thing for long term use. I did ask the Q on NC a while ago and didn't get anything bad said so have kept it up. Our nappies smell wonderful. No overnight ammonia eyewatering smell so that's a bonus. 1 capful in the fabric softener dispenser!
