cm- i wouldnt lend them to her, even if its only going to be in storage. clothes, ok fine. MCN, stay RIGHT AWAY FROM THEM!!! alot of what-ifs, mainly due to care. its too personally for them to get wrecked...

monsta was a poo squirter too, when they say bf babies dont poo everyday itsa LIE!!!! he shiat everyday. lucky he doesn hv a habit of doin it at night though. i use to change him every feed so every 2-3hrs. still am now @ 9mths!

just a quick thought on storing MCN - I vacuum-packed some when I took them on holidays in January, and after just a day and a half they smelled like toxic plastic! The bags left a horrible stink. I have had the same problem with some clothes I stored too. Had to air everything out and still had to wash stuff to get rid of the stink. But it depends on the brand of vac bags you use. I have some older bags that don't make stuff smell bad. Be cautious of the ones with green twist-close valves and green printing on them! I think they were from Kmart.

CM - I would be very hesitant about lending my stash too. I think I'd be more comfortable enabling and buying gift vouchers for online MCN stores, and letting your sister discover the addiction for herself, and the thrill of finding a nappy that fits just right!

Right, off to find the non-stinky vacuum bags. Going to QLD for two weeks, and I have to take the necessary stash plus the BumGs to be repaired. And still only 1 suitcase/20kg limit.

DH is annoying me , the footy is on and he keeps making man noises at the tv , woke up dd , he then looked at me as if to say go settle her , it was an ovbious case of - you woke her you settle her .. so he chucked a strop and now is grumpy ... we have iq so atleast he could pause the game ... geez

oh .. i do give away the dodgy nappies that arent right for us to my sister ... but i would never lend anyone my stash ..im not going to lie . i am very selfish :lol:

Ooh good thanks girls now I don't feel so bad. I thought I was just a paranoid selfish idiot lol No nappy lending for me. Couldn't bare the thought of having them mistreated. Plus I don't trust my sister with poops - she can't stand yucky things like poop or vomit so I can't imagine her handling a poopy MCN.

Went to sizzler for dinner tonight - feel like such a pig.

DS has a snotty nose poor munchkin, needed eukybear rub on his chest and feet before bed.

Oh and thanks for the info on the vacuum bags. I can't remember the brand but ours have white vacuum parts and no writing on them. From Target I think?

Its more about the ingredients than the recipe, I use dairy free marj instead of butter (not all marj is dairy free) and lactose free milk instead of normal milk. I just follow a normal recipe and read labels on ready made.

I just put the washing on and there were 6 poos in there. 4 Leah poos and 2 Emma poos, in 24 hours!!! bleurgh!!

that's reassuring to hear abou the cooking - not as scary as i imagined.

as a nb, bilby could poop easily ten times a day, six poops for two kids in 24 hours,sounds good to me.

by the time i put the nappy bucket of used nappies in the washing machine (when bilby was a newborn), there was no poo on the nappies, it had all been Little Squirted down the loo, we got excellent value out of the little squirt, still not ready to let it go. it was very useful at the start of toilet training. i worry the day i sell it, is the day she regresses and then i will regret having sold it!

and Teru, whoever said that bf bubs don't poop much, never met bilby! she could poop as a Olympic sport! gold medal style! and she was (and still is) breastfed.

the difference i heard, about nb poop, is that breastfed babies' poo smells sweeter than formula nb poops. and that formula takes longer to digest than bm, so i assume that means, longer between voids?

wotbb: she now fits in the small (at the end) and the medium (at the beginning) blueberry trainers. my non eating bilby MUST be putting on weight SOMEHOW! (by osmosis!!!).

god she is funny, trying to pull up her own knickers after a loo visit, she pulls them SO high that i cringe! (hipster knickers that are meant to be low on the body).

Cheeky Monkey - what is your sister's attitude re learnign how to wash and care for MCN? If she is interested and willing to learn, even practise with you around, i might consider the lend. If she is arrogant, "nothing to it, dont' hassle me", then i wouldn't. you know her best, if you think she would be lazy and not look fter them, listen to your gut instinct. i would want to know WAY IN ADVANCE, that she would buy you new, any she stuffed up. Does she normally keep her promises?

lending anything worth so much money, really worth being cautious. if in doubt, don't. esp special ones you hyenaed.

i was lent some nb fitteds, but i think my friend knew how fussy (anal retentive) i would be about caring for them! She wanted to use them for her next child, so i was very conscious of that, when i used them on the frequently pooping bilby. without the little squirt, i would have not felt so confident.

i typed all that wearing gloves, brrr it's cold here! (and bilby still insists on sleeping ON TOP of her bedding!) she's too mobile for a sleeping bag thingy now.

aww missy moo who ever the recipient is , im sure she'll be stoked..

little squirt are a must .. i know 3 people who dont have one and i wonder secretly , how much poo they have to touch... and the staining .. the LS gets deep into the nappy to get rid of most of the stain..

CM- if your sis really really wants mcn - tell her nothing is free and you too paid for it in the begging .. she gets a baby bonus so she can buy them herself !!! freeloaders :lol: maybe buy her the LS and let her get the rest .. really you cant go wrong with PF and good covers for a NB

Oscar had rotavirus vaccination and the immunistation nurse said not to put him in cloth as would be easier to throw away the sposies than deal with the cloth if it comes out in his dirty nappies??

Has anyone else been told that?

Ray we didn't notice a change in Ruby's nappies at all. Guess it affects bubbas differently though :dunno:

she was more worried that if the gastro was in the cloth would go through the whole machine, since I was in cold...do I need to hot wash them maybe?

the roto vac stays alive in the poop that's probably why. But I used cloth after, just made sure I was washing on hot not cold to kill any germs.

I always wash my nappies on hot, and everything with diarrhea is on hot also to kill any bugs/bacteria. If the diarrhea is due to an immunisation I would have thought it wasn't due to a bug though so nothing to worry about except staining? ETA: I just re-read my post and now sound like an idiot. The vaccine has the bug in it DURR lol I swear I'm awake this morning girls. Honest.

Ali - Do you have a specific recipe you know works and can you tell me the brand names of the ingredients you use? I will make a few special ones for your girls.

As for my sister borrowing MCN. She will listen intently to my washing instructions but a) she uses softner and I swear she will "forget" one day and put softner in the wash. b) she uses the dryer for EVERYTHING and no matter what I tell her I swear she will put my MCN in there on hot every godamn time. I just can't risk it. I've thought more about it and she just doesn't understand properly.

I will instead make her some more fitteds and covers I think. Maybe a few AIO's. And of course show her where to buy her own - but she will refuse as they are too expensive.

Lea - I don't have a LS. I roll the poop off into the toilet and use the showerhead (hand held one) to rinse the rest of the nappy. Some poops I don't rinse just chuck it in the bucket, depends on the type of poop.

Lea - The breastfed / formula poo seems to be very individual doesn't it, and can change in same baby even. When Elly was NB and solely breastfed she pooped ever feed even though she wasn't getting enough milk to gain weight she still pooped just tiny, later when I was on top-ups but still mostly bf she could go a week without pooping, BUT since starting solids it is 3-4 times a day, and so much more gross!

I don't have a LS either, but have a handheld $2 shower head hose (the shower head bit fell off so is just a hose) attached to my bathtub - I just turn the tap on, rinse the nappy into a bucket and tip it into the toilet then dry-bucket. Anyone who doesn't want to fork out for a LS I highly reccommend it - works Fine-diddly-ine!!

CM - I wouldn't lend mine out either. Especially if you are planning on having another one - if you want to let her down gently you could tell her you just want to make sure that they will last you through the next one so don't think you can afford the extra wear of lending ? ? Also, I bought some cheap Terry Velcro Fitteds on Ebay for $5 each, they come in 6 packs and 12 packs (plus covers, but got them from Maz stuff and BBH). They actually fit and work really well, though only last 2 hrs max for us, but if she's never used cloth before, she might want to start with something like these because they are cheap for a day nappy, and if she decides she can't handle the extra mess then she hasn't wasted money or wrecked your nappy.

We have our first cloth nappy on!:dance::dance::dance: A cute tushie fitted one with a mother rikki cover (I couldn't remember if it needed a cover or not for I figured better safe than sorry for our first change this morning.)
We ended up deciding to go with sposies for night atm for a bit longer so got another pack yesterday (I guess it's all getting used to it)

teruteru, we're going for MCNs and not prefolds/flats - DH won't fold, doesn't want to learn, and I can't be bothered re-learning some of the folds for flats (I remember helping mum for my brothers when little) so MCNs it is. Besides, I discovered that the flannelette flats make good wraps for sleeping. :lol:

CM if you want the quick and easy way the chemist at Domain has the Orgran packet mixes, they are gluten and dairy and egg free and vegan friendly so should be safe for anyone with allergies. Not sure if they have soy in them though. I usually just follow a normal recipe from scratch but put Nuttalex or the Table Lands dairy free marj and the Liddels or Zymil milk in. Doesn't taste any different from normal cakes and bikkies IMO.

Ray I would use prefolds and do super hot wash on them for a few days. No need for sposies if you can do a hot wash on PUL free items.

Ali - So let me make sure I've got this right. If I'm baking DS's cake I can use all normal ingredients just switch the milk to Zymil and the butter to Nuttalex (which I prefer anyway) then she can eat his cake instead of needing something separate?

Sas - your idea sounds fantastic. I will just tell my sister that I want them o last through our next child and possibly the one after (DS was only in them for 6 months).

The pee smell was so bad in the mornings I think it was starting to wake him up. Poor lil bugga, who wants to sleep like that :(

Hmmmm, DD's nappies stink something shocking in the morning too, almost like an old can of tuna fish juice that's been in the garbage forgotten for a couple of days :sick: and it's definately not a matter of not enough or dark coloured pee or anything like that here. I don't think it's out of the ordinary at all - have you ever smelled a nursing home? Same horrid tuna fish smell there prob from the linen's etc from all the poor, incontinent old people- must just be the smell of old/drying pee, I use bamboo or hemp fitteds on DD at night no microfibre and still smell so don't that's it, Sposies have chemical neutrolizer crystals in them so they don't smell like that. But, it's only ever the night nappy here that stinks because it's been on for so long it's getting old and pongy KWIM. Can't believe it's waking him up though!! Woah! Wouldn't want to put a farting sibling in the room with him :lol:

No news here. Just starting to plan Em's first birthday in a month or so! We scoped out a spot for it today. Now I've got to think of the right outfit and what nappy to put her in!
