absorbent fabrics in mcn: (used to soak up liquid) used as trifolds in pockets, boosters in fitteds, inner in fitted nappies for kids with sensitive skin
- flannelette
- cotton velour
- bamboo (terry, fleece or velour)
- hemp (terry, fleece or velour)
- sherpa
These are all natural fibres, machine washable, take longer to dry.
raw silk (you must HANDWASH this natural fibre, not an easy care fabric).
microfibre (synthetic fabric, quick drying, do not put it directly against baby's skin).
stay dry fabrics in mcn: (used to keep baby's bottoms dry - used in inners of nappies, liners)
- microfleece
- suedecloth
- microchamois
These are all 100% synthetic, machine washable, dry fast.

think about this in relation to what you use on your bub
what fabrics are the prefolds and flats made of?
they might be
hemp
bamboo
cotton
(all absorbent fabrics, that feel wet as soon as baby wees)
to transform your current nappy comb of
- nappy flat and cover
or
- prefold and cover
into a STAY DRY nappy solution,
all you need to do is PLACE MICROFLEECE LINERS on top of the flat, or prefold so that the baby's bottom is in contact with the microfleece, NOT the prefold or flat.
buy microfllece liners already cut up, inexpensive (bubblebubs is one place that sells them)
or buy half a metre of microfleece online, and cut it up into liners, no sewing required, it will not fray in the wash.
Greenbeans is having a sale on microfleece remnants right now, very cheap.
other mcn making supply sites are tiny toosh, nappies covered, bubba earth, wrigglebots, etc.
so WITH the stady dry liner, your baby WILL have a dry bottom when you change them
this is how the layers go
babies bottom
stay dry layer
absorbent material in prefold or flat
waterproof cover
the way the staydry layer works
- the baby wees
- the wee travels THRU the microfleece
- the wee gets TRAPPED and SOAKED UP into the abosrbent fabric like bamboo
- the wee won't go thru the PUL or waterproof outer, UNLESS the absorbent fabric is 100% soaked, baby is left for a long time in nappy, THEN the PUL will start wicking
to change an absorbent inner nappy (feel wet), to a staydry inner, all you do is lie in a microfleece liner. E.g a baby beehinds bamboo OSFA fitted nappy. (outer and inner is all made of absorbent fabric).

I had a night in cloth with both kids the other night cause I had run out of sposies and refused to put them on the credit card :D Um, so looking for suggestions for DS.. I think I have read BB bamboo fitteds are ok for night? I am still changing him once or twice a night (not that the nappies are full, but I don't like getting them really full)..
Well gotta run, must go get some supplies for the nappy making day tomorrow.. Wish me luck cause I haven't sewn in a while.. Will be interesting to see how my nappy turns out :p
Heather - yup I used BBB's until Miss M was around 6 months - so they should be ok. Oh, and I got your facebook message - but my facebook is being a retard today and won't let me reply to messages, or change status or do ANYTHING - but yes thats fine to keep my AIO's for a little longer mate - and just send the others back when you are ready - no rush :D
I actually sorted out my nappies for the new bub yesterday (and its clothes!).. so they all look cute in the drawers just waiting for a little bum!!!
Not much happening here - I just agreed to buy two nic nap night nappies, so I hope they are good!!! Sick of adding extra boosting to everything for Mr and Ms Pi$$y pants over here.

Heather - I only used BBH bamboo's on VY for night time until about 6 months ago (she was 2 1/2). Their great for kids that dont pee alot

Kate - the only RNW activity in SA is down south, nearly 2 hrs drive away and it is just too far to go :( so haven't got to any, but I hope next year there will be one up this way somewhere

gigi - you are a wealth of imformation! thanks :)unfortunately dont have enough suedecloth inners to test a whole day with lol! but I think we're not going to use the GK's anyway cause we are thinking of going with snap closures rather than H&L so its longer before lil miss works out how to undo them lol! are there any other Suedecloth lined nappies to watch out for?

i'm sure i've read something along these lines elsewhere but, for the life of me, i can't remember where!
a couple of E's itti's are sounding a bit crinkly. not all of them, but a couple of them. i know they haven't been in the drier at all (the two cream ones have been by accident, but this is the red and blue ones). i think maybe the PUL is having "issues". am i right in thinking i should be putting them in the drier on low to relaminate the PUL? or am i completely vague and waaaaaay off the mark?

We are going to a picnic after Church on Sunday (BTW Sarah - I know it's unlikely you will see this - but we will have a friend with us, he is hanging out with Stephen for the arvo, will tell you more later), and I have gotten into the spirit of RNW by saying happy reusable nappy week in some of my emails, and booking a stall at an upcoming parenting expo. I will see if some of the cloth users at church want to come to the picnic too.:
I think I might need to buy a pack of sposies soon so I can wash all the nappies and put them all together properly coz it has been mix and match for a couple of weeks coz the ILs were here and I havent had a chance to really get into the spare room and sort out all the washing since they left.

Are they less than 6 months old? When did you purchase them? They might still give you a replacement since they haven't actually been used for 6 months if you purchased them a while ago.:

Weather FANTASTIC for drying my nappies! prewashed all my cushie tushies I got the other day and in my excitement mustn't have pre washed them enough :blush: They are soooooooooooo gorgeous!
Have had Charlie in Cloth for 2 days straight except night as I don't have any night nappies yet and she's loving it!
