Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
So Spock is starting to flood nappies... I THINK what is happening is she is at a point where instead of doing lots of little wees, she is doing one big one and it is too much in one go and over fills the nappy. I'm now changing her more often, every 2 hours because they just aren't keeping up...
I am starting to look up on toilet training. Thinking of doing something like the 3 day thing, because it is really just nappy free and ec type thing. And should do it now while it's hot and summer. But just need to find a nice chunk of days when we haven't got plans.
Any tips for the mean time? Is it as simple and just putting an extra booster in?

Enjoying nb cloth again! ;) Not so much enjoying toddler and nb both in cloth. :/ LOTS of washing. Lucky that the nb nappies dry so quickly.

TT40 how old is Spock again? BTW DD rarely outlasts 3 hours in a nappy and that's with a booster. I think she holds on too because (from 22-23 months) I started noticing one super wet nappy that I'd sometimes have to change after 2 hours even an hour and a half, followed by a couple of dry nappies etc.

Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
You could be onto something then TT40. I notice with DD after her swim class her (post swim) nappy is so wet and full that she must hold on while in the pool then empty once she has a dry nappy on.
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
The warmth of the pool and the activity possibly makes her go too, LL. Certainly did with DD1. Only in her case it usually meant a poo too. :/
I can get up to three hours with DD2 with extra boosting, but no more. And now it's summer she drinks a lot. Atm with my milky oversupply she's also doing huge wees. Try boosting with a prefold, TT40. When I need serious boosting that's what I reach for.

Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Our family has been through our first shared episode of diarrhea and vomiting... Thank goodness we all seem to be over the vomiting part, but a week and a bit later, DS (16mo) is still producing 2-3 sloppy nappies a day, generally at the end of his nap, of which at least one overflows the nappy. We have been doing so many loads of washing lately it's ridiculous! I only have Grovia Hybrids, always with one booster, and we normally get very few leaks. I've been thinking of changing to sposies until his poos get back to normal...
How does everyone else handle diarrhoea?
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Photo we (well my dd) has had some loose, massive poos for the last week, mchn thinks it's teething as it isn't diarrhoea per se. I had been using cushie tushies Eco disposable inserts (with a CT shell over the top) when we were camping so I just continued with them, as the mcn liners were NOT containing the blasts at all. I must say it was a relief to be able to chuck the smelly mess rather than have to use the little squirt.
DD also had a bit of nappy rash from either the poo or some grapes she had eaten, so I took the opportunity to slather zinc on and used disposables overnight for a couple of nights as she was doing a poo early in the morning before I took her night nappy off.
Hope you get some relief from the illness!
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Sounds icky Pholi, poor mama.
Just returned from two weeks away. We used sposies as we were on the road a lot / sans washing machine and I am so glad to put her MCNs on again.
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Hi ladies. Thought I'd pop in to ask a few (probably stupid) questions, some that I know have been answered a million times before!
1. MCN's and zinc cream. I know they don't go, but does that mean I need to use sposies, or will a liner stop the zinc cream coming into contact with the MCN?
2. MCN's and oral thrush. I read oral thrush can give nappy rash, so wondered if I should be avoiding MCN's while he's on meds, just in case it spreads back again? CAN it spread back again? I also read that washing all bedding/clothes is recommended so I've strip washed my MCN's, just in case they were harbouring any nasties.
3.DS2 wets right through his prefolds with one wee. The cover stops leaks, but I was wondering if that's normal. The prefold touches his belly button, which is still healing. I don't want it causing an infection. Ideas?
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Hi JLeigh :)
I can't answer the second Q as - touch wood - we've never had oral thrush but re the first question, a flushable liner won't stop the zinc getting through (neither the beeswax, which can also clog MCNs) but the girls here have suggested a strip of microfleece which works perfectly and is very cheap.
Regarding wetting through, are they new prefolds? I ask because maybe they need to be washed a few more times for maximum absorbency. And are they cotton or bamboo (or something else)? Cotton is not as absorbent.
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
prefolds do get completely soaked, it is the cover that stops leaks out. can you keep the cover lower than the bellybutton? anything touching it can irritate.
do you need to use zinc cream? there are alternatives. I have microfleece liners for when zinc was needed, but didn't have to use it that often.
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Ladies, good waterproof covers for prefokds for a larger child (DD2, 13 months, 12kg, big thighs and belly)? Ta! :)
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Have you tried pikapu? I use them over BBH night nappies, reasonable size, Velcro tho, not sure if that is compatible with an older child.
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
I love my Disana wool covers, PZ, and they'd work just fine on chubbier legs. These are my fave covers, because it's usually just a quick air and they're ready to reuse. You do need to lanolise them and have a wool wash if they get soiled, but the in between ease of use makes up for the prep work.
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
As a sideline to the disana covers - is there any hope if they get shrunk in the wash? The very first time we used them DH put them in to wash with the rest of the laundry and are very very shrunken. I was a tad p1ssed
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Jen, they look adorable!! How are they during summer? Also, how many do you think I'd need? 2, 3?
Re: Cloth Nappy General Discussion #202
Wool breathes, so it's good all year around. I have longies for DD2 for winter, but in summer just use these on their own over NNs overnight. I have two for each of my girls. I'm yet to use them on DD3 as she's only just over 3 kg, not quite into the size I bought. But esp good with DD2 who is rash-prone.
