haha FJ yes I admit baby wipes are amazing..
I use terry flats on DD and therefore use them for all cleaning, spills etc coz I like to have a decent sized wash load of all those nappies.
Whenever I see that lady use a bunch of expensive baby wipes for mopping up water I just cringe! I think i use one wipe every couple of days!!
I completely get this.
We cloth bum during the day for awake time, but for DD's daytime nap and night time it's a huggies. They are slimmer and absorbent - a $33 box lasts me 2 months.
Cloth just looks so uncomfortable to sleep in - but during the day while she's running around, that big padded butt is just divine LOL
Hmm, I was planning on using cloth but after this thread I'm not so sure lol.. I'll definitely have sposies on hand JIC lol

People! Why so negative!!? We love our cloth here! We were given 2 packs of sposies when Harlee was born so we used them, but I was so eager to start using cloth, so I did, and about a month ago I found one sposie in her nappy bag so I figured..may as well use it while it still fits.. So she had it on over night and in the morning it smelt strange! It was grosse! Like a chemically smell! I much prefer the faint smell of wee than chemicals sitting on her bum!
We go through about 5 nappies a day and we wash every second day. There's nothing hard about putting a load of wash on every second day!
Stop turning people off it! Its so easy!

I'd love to try cloth but have put it in the too hard basket - for me, personally - and I wouldn't knock those who use them but need to point out that sposies aren't $30 a week - not in my house anyway! I pay about $13 a week for Huggies for DD. I always buy the boxes and grab several when they're on special. You can often get them for under 30 cents a nappy.:
The amount of times prior to finding MCNs where I ran out of sposies was ridiculous. I buy one box of disposables every month and a bit just for night use. The amount of times I've ran out and forgotten even that is ridiculous too :lol:. I couldn't find a night nappy that Pixie didn't flood out of and I can't use full time disposables or she gets red burnt skin and rashy. Putting the one on her overnight I have to make sure I moogoo everywhere or she has a red nappy on after I take the sposie off. As for using cloth full-time, I'd find it easier because I don't have to remember buying sposies and DD throws a wobbly every night getting the plastic on her butt.:
I went on holiday a couple of months ago and we used sposies while we were away. I was worried that if i started using them again i would want to stop using cloth but i hated them! Ds got a rash, they smelt weird and i felt horrible throwing them all in the bin... and he had nothing to keep his pants up ROFL

It is OK to say you're over it. No-ones denying the ease or the cost. I have been using cloth for a looong time (think 5 years). I have a large (OK very large) stash and there is no extra for me as I just wash the nappies as I go with my regular wash. But like all things parenting, sometimes some things just don't work for you for a time or forever. And that's OK too.
Generally they're around that much a week, around here anyway. And I myself couldn't factor spending extra on nappies to stock up if they're on special. It just wouldn't work on our budget.:
$33 a box at Coles and Woolies always now :) and that's for 72 nappies for DD at 20 months. She'd be lucky to go through 35-40 sposies a week - Huggies are so absorbent! I've actually just bought her nappies for $27 a box at Toys R Us so easily under $15 a week.
Just putting it out there for those who are interested in costs. Sposies aren't as pricey as a lot think.
Again, I still love the idea of cloth. My hat goes off to you cloth mums. They sure make for one damn cute bum (amongst other things!) ;)
I pay nothing.. Ever.. I bought one a week while pregnant. Now we have more than enough cloth nappies for 2 babies in cloth at the same time.
So yeah.. Zero dollars a week now is pretty good.
How much does it cost for a full set for two kids, roughly? And how many MCN each? I've looked at a few brands but would prefer to hear from mums that are actually doing it :):
I was over sposies for various reasons, and relying on cloth was giving me the irrits, so that's why I gave ECing the plunge. Never looked back. Honestly, it's so worth the mental leap over convention - cost, convenience, distinct lack of handling POO in my life!
I'm not saying this to be smug (can't be bothered being smug), I'm saying it because if it's annoying you enough, look into doing some EC and dropping at least one nappy, sposie or cloth a day. It feels so good! Reading Ingrid Bauer was great for me because I came to understand human elimination needs and it made it so much easier. I helped DS become night continent using that knowledge, and he was 2.5yo, still in Peapods at night (boosted to the all get out) and I was sick of it the nappies, feeling enslaved to them. It's never too late if your child is still in nappies :)
Food for though. My 19mo is nappy free now and about to go into Family Day Care.
Oh, and I like wipes - I use the WotNot biodegradeables, because I don't need to buy them that often and they're great for so many things.
Well I have about 45 aio's, bout half of them were bought second hand for no more than $20, the other half would have been $30 each.. So doing that in my head.. Well I can't figure it out, but it was alot because I went for the expensive embroided type.But you can pick up a12 pack of pocket nappies on ebay for $60, they aren't that bad either!:

I have 36-40 nappies. Washing everyday for two that is plenty and I'd say I've spent $1200. That's being generous and adding everything up as paying full price, which I think I've only done a handful of times. Most of our nappies I have gotten on sale, some are seconds and second hand.:
you'd be surprised at what you learn about your child when you give yourself no other option ;) When I got rid of the 'back up' nappy we made much more progress within days than we had been in months. Having the nappies was affording me the luxury of not paying as much attention. If anyone's interested in more anecdotes from a few of us who do it, there's a chatter thread on EC here. It's all about learning (both of you), not about being good at it to start with it :):
