i went out and bought nixon a night nappy today , its a bits for bots windpro/mm fleece pocket
its going to get some good boosting so hopefully it will last ...
off to wash it now ...

what boosters are the best , ?? i mainly only have hemp
Lea, bamboo is more absorbent than hemp.
Kai is a pretty big wetter too (at least, I think he is . . . don't really have any basis for comparison!!), I've been using the BBH Bamboo for a couple of months and just ordered some more. But what I wanted to say is that I have always used a PUL cover and haven't had any probs with rash. But then, he hasn't tended to get much rash anyhow. Maybe try it for one night if you have one, and see how your bub goes?

I've recently gotten into night nappies (have a Wildchild, and have 2 Sandmans and a Lotus on the way), because River sleeps for so long. He wets through even a super boosted BBH Bamboo, and he even soaks a sposie boosted with bamboo! I think he only does wee when awake, but babies are waking and resettling all the time during the night, so there's plenty of opportunity for them to wee.
Anyway, was just curious as to how you were getting on! :)
Another tip - change them as soon as they get up. Jack is a huge wetter and can soak a sposie overnight. I've now got him in a boosted BBB with wool cover and he has twice this week woken up dry and done a big wee (on his bed one day and the floor the other :rollseyes: ) as soon as he woke up. And boy were they HUGE wees!!
your bub is 11 months now, i don't know what size, but i found the baby beehinds bamboo (which is what i'm assuming you're using at night) weren't absorbent enough, for my bub after about five months old. When her wetting ability upped, i also upped the ante on her night nappy.
When you shop for night nappies, look for how many layers the nappy has of absorbent fabric.
The outers might be Malden Mills Fleece like WIndpro (in the Kester Kovers AIO, the Staccinator covers, the Sugarpea Covers.
The construction of the absorbent bits is also worth reading about, if you have several pieces (e.g a trifold and boosters) the night nappy will dry faster. So for example, 14 layers of bamboo all up is great for absorption levels, but just make sure that you're getting several "bits", each one being two or three layers thick.

Do you know about OUTER boosting? You can actually OVERSTUFF a fitted nappy, and end up with leg gapes (which mean you'll get leaks). You can avoid that, by OUTER boosting. You put nappy on so you can do it up WITHOUT leg gapes, then BETWEEN the outer of the fitted, and INSIDE the cover, you put boosting. With your bub, put it on the tummy side, e.g put a bamboo foldup there. Position it, where you get the leaks with your bub.
Night nappying is about customising the nappy to your bub i reckon, it's quite individual. To me, it's all about what you have for the absorbency.
There is an excellent topic on Nappycino, called Night Nappy Struggles, where people list what they're having problems with, and others post possible solutions, great thread to read.
re the fleece
The liners - microfleece - keep using it, unless your bub rashes up (the fluid goes THRU it)
The covers - double polarfleece or single layer of Malden Mills Windpro (this is waterproof)
so they do two very different things, i havne't explained it well enough, but just keep those two fleeces separate in your mind.
and then there's BAMBOO FLEECE, HEMP FLEECE, which are ABSORBENT fleeces. That's what you want the boosters, foldups, trifolds etc to be made out of, to ABSORB the wee during the night. They are antibacterial fabrics and will keep soaking up fluid, even when soaked.

i have been usuing a bbb over night and i have boosted the outside too .. if only the bbb were topped with a fleece , thenit would make it a bit easier .. the bamboo can get very damp and the pee spreads in it , making it difficult for the enitre nappy to be covered .. kwim
But i find my bits for bots fleece pocket to be good ... its got soft microfleece on the inside and chunky wind pro on the outer ...
last night i stuffed it with only a bamboo prefold and a fleece topped mico fibre booster ...
dh said it was completly dry .... BUT he can undo the velcro ... which he did this morning and pooped all over the bed ....
what cover do you put over the bbb?
oh, after reading your post several times, i THINK you mean you wish the BBB were LINED with microfleece, instead of putting a separate microfleece liner in it yourself. Baby Soft Landings sell night time liners (microfleece), cheap, light to post. You could always buy half a metre of microfleece at Spotlight and just cut them to the size yuo're after, it doesn't fray so no sewing is needed.

When you say you stuffed it with a bamboo prefold and a fleece topped microfibre booster - well, did you realise, that the microfleece topped boosters, are ONLY to put inside a fitted nappy, they are not to be used as inserts? The only things you use for inserts are bamboo, hemp, microfibre boosters/prefolds/foldups that have no microfleece on them.
So maybe you meant topped with bamboo fleece or hemp fleece and all is good.
but Just In Case you really did mean, microfleece topped - um - no , i would not be doing that.
If your bub can undo velcro/aplix, i would not be putting him to bed in ONLY his nappy, sounds too dangerous! Would putting a sleep sack, or overalls over the nappy stop him from being able to remove nappy himself? CLever Nixon, but obviously driving mummy mental if you have to clean up poo like that! you poor sausage! I think i will be beside myself when my bilby works that trick out!!!
I have been known to get fave aplix nappies and have a kind person with a snap press, makeover the aplix nappy into a snaps nappy.
Have you seen the Super Bamboosters at nurture nappies? 15 layers of bamboo terry. too bulky to use in the day, but great overnight in a snug fitting cover. very thirsty.
I wouldn't be using up too much space in night pockets with microfibre. If you really want bang for your buck (heaps of absorbency), i would fit as much bamboo in there and forgo the microfibre, cos think of the bamboo as the long distance runner, and the microfibre as teh sprinter. Now who do you want on your team for a Long Nappy Wear?
Just for argument's sake, before I head to sleep after conceding that if I 'just wait til I've won a game of solitaire' I might still be here in the morning -
I use microfleece topped boosters as inserts - I just put the it so the microfleece faces away from the bum, on the underside (hope that makes sense) and as close to the outside as possible - so in a pocket, the microfleece touches the PUL. Ideally, in a pocket you'd have any microfibre (which is what my microfleece topped boosters are made of) closest to the butt (but not touching skin) to do the quick soaking, but I don't have any plain microfibre boosters - yet!
I'm with Gigi - if you want fleece all over the inside, go and buy some, if you can. No idea what name it's under at Spotlight...baby fleece?

i have been mainly using my bits for bots night nappy .. its a fleece pocket and of late i have been boosting it with a peapod bamboo pre fold ... and the microfleece topped microfibre booster under his bum , not in side the nappy ... and since i have had no leaks .. . but it is a bit too big and ends up too bulky and his litte daks wont fit over them .....
i wash it every day coz i know it does the trick !!
i should have made it a bit clearer .. sorry... and i do wich that bbh were microlfeece topped ... sometimes i find the liners can bunch and not cover the whole nappy if they are cut in a rectangle .. but i have heaps of micro fleece haning around so i might make some bigger ones ...
its just having to boost and line and cover and nappy can be a bit of an effort at nappy changes .. with a wriggly baby .. kwim
i have just bought a sand man... and since the weather is hotting up i may have to switch to wool .... i only have longies , but up here i'd prefer the ones that come up over the nappy like litte undies .... does that make sense ...

NIXONSMUMMA - the woollies come in
- soaker (like a nappy cover but no elastic, instead knitted leg cuffs and drawstring waist)
- shorties (like shorts with a drawstring waist)
- longies (you know them already!)
If you don't want to use a separate liner at night time, i would suggest
- malden mills fleece (Windpro or 300wt) pockets (then you only have to stuff it with a bamboo)
- a night time AIO like Kester Kovers, Wrigglybumz Nightz
You might want to experiment with Hourglass shaped or Eggtimer shaped microfleece liners.
Something i have done, to get MORE layers of bamboo into the pockets, without them getting too wide with being stuffed, is to make some skinnier strip boosters. So i might sew one normal width (two layers bamboo), another 2cm less wide (and sew that to the first one, top and bottom, then another one 2cm less wide again, and sew that one to the middle one. (cos the sewing machine only goes thru 4 layers of bamboo happily). So the crotch width doesn't get too bulky.
i noticed tonight, Cuddles n Cloth make both a bamboo nappy and a fleece night nappy, both are front SNAPS.
The Sandman is double row front SNAPS too, hopefully this will outsmart your clever bub!
I like having a few types of night nappies, so if bilby is gurgling happily on the changetable, i'll do teh fitted and woolly routine, but if she's screaming blue murder, i'll put the night AIO on her. I reckon the night time MCN is the hardest bit, once you get that sorted, the rest is gravy!!!
I would suggest going the TRIM option for night time stuffing, microfibre will not last the distance, instead of taking up space in the pocket and making the nappy bulky with the microfibre, i'd be using that space to put more bamboo in. (the microfibre is good for day nappies).
Have you thought about accessing the ozclothnappies snap database? it's a list of people who have a snap press and are willing to let others use it, or do some snapping for them. If you love the bits for bots pocket, but His Nibs is driving you bats by undoing the aplix, well, you could have some snaps put on it maybe, to solve that dilemna.
Dunno if you want night time covers, or just want woollen soakers.
but there are snap shut Windpro covers available e.g Staccinator, Sugarpeas.
for buying a woollen soaker, you want minimum 8 ply 100% merino wool, 10 or 12 ply is great too.
the plainer the better, i have no idea why, but apparently the ones with embroidery, are less waterproof - i don't understand why, but a WAHM told me that. I got a lovely basic nighttime soaker from Possum's Pouches, $25, in a plain colour. There are SO many places that sell them, Peep-o has some on special right now too.
if you want help about the lanolising, just give a hoy, it's not hard.

My suggestion for a good night nappy would be Krap Katchers. Dont be discouraged by the name they are a fantastic nappy. My DD Cassidy is a fairly heavy wetter and she can get through a full night in a KK without leaking. I stuff mine with a Green Kids bamboo insert, a prefold and a microfibre booster.
Since using them there has been no wet nights in my house :dance:

My DS is another super wetter and we've been fiddling around with a few combinations for nights for the last couple of weeks. What works best for us is Wombots SNAIO, unfortunately their offline at the moment due to a family tragedy so you'd have to try to snag one secondhand, they're really trim (for a night nappy anyway :lol: ) but do the job. For us the GNST's in hemp didn't work, I just got 2 bamboo GNST's in the mail today so I'm trying that out tonight with a Bubblebubs felted wool cover, downside of the GNST's is they're quite bulky. I've also used a medium BB (Ds is in smalls the rest of the time) boosted in the front with a prefold pad folded then folded in half again which also works.
I think with any cloth nappy iot's all a matter of trial and error, it depends so much on your bubs body shape and peeing habits as to what will work for them. Can get very expensive though!

Hmmm not to fussed on the bamboo GNST, I bought the heavy wetter but only used 1 trifold rather than the 2 because it was so bulky already and it was drenched in the morning. Might give it a few washes and see how we go but I think I'll be waiting to get some more Wombots.
