Reusable wipes tips and advice

Hi Ladies,

Help me out, do you use the reusable wipes? Do they just get chucked in the dry bin?
Wouldn't they smell? Rinse off first?

How to you do the storage in the diaper bag? I heard of a good container and take the wipes straight out of the wash and into the container.



What do you do? Any tips? Advice? Do or don'ts? Easier to use disposables when out?

Mine are from itti bitty. I got 6 packs. Probably way too much but a good investment I am hoping.

After use mine get chucked in the laundry tub for a rinse off (same as our poo nappies) then into the nappy bucket. I wash daily so mine don't smell.

When out and about, I sometimes use disposable ones - depends what mood I am in.. LOL.. I do take cloth wipes though, and put them in my wet bag with the dirty nappy when I'm done. I wouldn't say they are easier than disposables when out, but since you are washing the pooey nappy anyway, may as well do the wipes!! I take along a small pop top bottle of water with me in the nappy bag if I'm not going to a friend's house. If I'm at a friends house I just use their water

I use them. I just put them in with the nappies. I generally use disposable wipes for DS's poo's but if I use cloth, I just spray them with the little squirt before putting them in the bucket.

I recycle a huggies travel wipes box for the nappy bag and a larger huggies wipes container for the change table. I generally dry the wipes in the sun after washing as the sun kills a lot of the germs.

I find cloth wipes just as easy when out as at home. If I'm using cloth nappies, it is easy to keep the wipe with the nappy. I put the used ones in a wetbag. Otherwise you have to dispose of the disposable wipe separately.

I have heaps of different types including itti bitti. They are mostly all great. The only ones I don't really like are the single layer cotton ones. Terry ones & velour ones are great.

I chuck mine in my nappy bucket, same as the nappies and then wash all together.

When I am going out I wet the wipes in my bum wiping solution then pop them in a clip lock bag. When they have been used they go into the wet bag.

I made my wipes by sewing two pieces of cute cot flannelette together

I use re-usable wipes at home i just bought a few packs of cheap white face washers from Best and Less i put them in a tall lunch box container on the nappy table and put the wipes solution in with them, have been using them for about three years now they are looking a bit thred bare now but DD2 will be out of nappies some time soon and then they will be chucked. I use disposable wipes when i am out and about though.

meh, I'm pretty lazy, just treat em like nappies. I never used to use dis wipes but my kids are older and I rarely need wipes out.
I used to just carry a little bottle of water for wetting them if there was no tap. Mine all live in a big bucket, or float around the bag dry.
The itti ones are great.

I am making my own wipes from double terry bamboo (the poo side) and flannel (wee side). I was thinking of just using water with them... would everyone suggest to have a wipe solution? What is the best one?

I was thinking of just keeping wet cloth wipes in a snap lock bag then transfer them into the wet bag.

I think it would be easier to have them wet already. Plain water should be fine I'd think. I always use sposies (nappies & wipes) when I'm out, are you using mcns when you go out? What wet bag do you have? I need to get one if I'm going to use mcn when out n about.

i use cloth wpes at home, just put warm water in a small dish and wet as i need them. use disposable ones when im out.

Babyluv, I use the itti wet bag and it is awesome!!! NO leaks and no smell... they are $18.95 but mums little outlet (the link I posted on fb) has 25% off? They are worth it!!!
I have a tutto and a wetbag (I bought 2) in my nappy bag and use cloth while out. It is just as easy as sposies really, I just have to remember to take out the dirty nappy to wash and replace it with a clean one.

another alternative, is to carry a small spray bottle filled with water, and spray the wipe you're about to use, WHEN you need to use it. Or if it's a really stick poo mess you're cleaning up, you could spray your bub's bottom with water too, if you're having trouble getting the wipe wet enough.

I was advised to use fabric that has loops in it, to "grab" the poo - so my fave wipes were bamboo terry, hemp terry, cotton terry - as these were LOOPY fabrics, not SMOOTH fabrics like flannelette (which is great for patting dry by the way).

Cos esp when you're out, it's the ability to clean up pooey bottoms easily, that you will be most glad about. If you're caught out (not enough wipes in bag etc), you CAN get away with not wiping a wee bottom, but NOT a poo bottom.

i used to take the wetbag (with the used nappies and wipes) to the loo when i got home, and use the Little Squirt on the wipes and the nappies, before putting the used wipes and used nappies in the nappy pail (ready for next wash load). I found it alot easier to PREVENT stains (by using the LS before the machine wash), cos the longer poo is ON the wipe or nappy, the more time it has to stain.

when pregnant, i could not imagine using MCN when out of the home, but after the first outing, armed with the tips read online, it worked just fine, and i thought "easy, i'll keep on doing this, why was i so worried?". The key is to be prepared, have enough with you - spare bag of mcn and wipes in the car was helpful to me.

gig I have the most gorgeous soft bamboo double terry to use on one side and flannel on the other! so perfect for poo's n wee's!

The Planetwise wet/dry bags are awesome. One pocket for clean nappies and the other for dirty ones- you can carry whole days worth in one go.

Good tip Gigi, I only have newborn poo at the moment, so it's easy to wipe!
Where do you buy the bamboo from? I would still like to make my own.

Re bum solution - I make a pot of camomile tea and calandula (spelling?) tea and use that
