ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Awesome stuff!
How about just order a soft drink and don't offer an explaination?
I'm not TTC and not pg but do this - sure, people think I'm weird but sometimes I just don't want alcohol and I love my wine usually.
Other great excuses would be "nah, this pic of my hubby's looking attractive and he says that means I've had too much." - perfectly reasonable to say sober.
Or just (slurred) "are you trying to get me drunk so you can sleep with me?" Most people won't buy you a drink after that one.
oh my gosh how funny. these are all great! ive been thinking about how to get around that one, as were getting married next month and as soon as that is over, i know everyone is going to be watching my alcohol consumption like a hawk!
These are great excuses! I was just discussing this with DH yesterday, as we have just started TTC'ing and are often out for drinks with friends. I like the mocktail idea, as well as the antibiotics excuse.
Not sure how these work when you are at a small gathering at someone's house though... we are going to stay with DH's parents this weekend for his Dad's bday and we usually all have a few wines together. I don't mind telling them we are TTC if that's what hubby wants to do, but I think I want to wait to tell the family til we have news to announce. Maybe I will just tell them I had a big night the day before we get there and need a break from the alcohol! :P
ha ha.. these are great!
will be putting them to good use as of today! got my positive opk, so off we go with the waiting again!
How about this one for when out with friends... "no thanks, I am SO HOT if guys see me drinking they will keep buying me more drinks all night... and then I'll never get any peace"
ok... thats funny... if you could see me, you would think its funny...i think its funny... trust me, its funny...
because I refuse to pay the government any more money in tax ;)
I've always said "thanks, I'd love a lemon, lime and bitters this round... light on the bitters"
Sounds alcoholic but has virtually no alcohol if it's light on the bitters.
Say that you have a mouth ulcer & the alcohol stings it. or that you have just got a filling & it still hurts.
Love all the funny suggestions - this is just my story RE babies, body and booze:
I've been tee-total for a couple of years now, started as a pre-conception health-kick and the idea of alcohol just doesn't interest me anymore. Guess I was lucky in that I could say "I don't drink anymore and I'm not pregnant, so don't get any ideas" and now it's been so long that no one thinks anything of it.
I think it's easier if you don't drink at all rather than 2 weeks out of 4, then people get used to you not drinking and it's not an issue any more.
After all, people who try and force drinkies on you are drug pushers (but it does seem to upset people when you point this out to them)!
I think it will be easier to deal with this sicho with the 2nd pg by saying "No, thanks, kid's still on the booby juice and I hate pumping and dumping". Hopefully no-one will remember that I've had nips of wine here and there in the last 12 months of BFing!
Or else "I got so sick after the last session, I'm going alcohol free for a while".
I am an epileptic, (no really)
so i had to think of great reasons to not drink, without saying why,
No thanks, I am on antibiotics
No thanks I'm driving
No thanks my yoga teacher says its bad for me
no thanks my tai chi teacher syas it interferes with my chi energy
No thanks my buddhist master says its bad karma
No it intereferes with my anti psychotic meds
i just dont like it lately
mind your business
my father was an alcoholic
i'm morally against binge drinking
i'm only 17!!
i just had one before i drove here
sorry i've been drinking all day
i've had a liver transplant
in a past life i was a drunk prostitute , i'm trying to make it right,
oh do you drink do you?
sorry i leave the drinking and swearing to my husband
"No thanks, I'm on a list for a liver transplant and if I drink I'll go straight to the bottom"
(sorry sim1 you beat me to it)
Or if you really want to scare people you could get that zealous look in your eye and tell them you're in 'recovery' and invite them to an AA meeting........
the voices in my head say alcohol is good, but my psychologist says the voices in my head are wrong and I shouldn't listen to them
Ok, but I"m only having one tonight because I'm driving, actually let me get this round.
& then you can get a fake drink, or if they don't let you get the round accept it but just don't drink it, carry it around for a while & then 'loose' it.
or "Actually I'm really thirsty can I just get a water / lemonade etc"
I have done the thirsty one too Meli....
i better have a water first to quench my thirst, otherwise i might scull the wine and be on my ear...
then get your own later...
Something I did once was to approach the bar person straight away and explain the situation to them. I said that if anyone tries to buy me a drink they'll order a vodka, lime and soda or a gin and tonic, and could the bar person please exclude the alcohol? Bear in mind this was a session which started at 2pm, so it was pretty quiet at the time. This trick would fail of course if there was anyone else in the round who wanted the same drink as you. I tried to stay out of rounds and just got DH to buy our drinks, so I would clearly ask him to get me a G&T, and he would just get the T.
Most of the time I say I'm driving.
I've got a friend who knows I've been TTC, but doesn't know I'm pregnant. She's also TTC so abstains herself in the TWW. If she notices I've been 'driving' a lot I'll just say I'm in the TWW.
The water one reminded me! I'm often under-hydrated, so when I was pregnant I used to say "Actually, I haven't drunk water at all today and I'm feeling dehydrated, drink will make it worse". Seems to have worked...no-one saw the announcement coming ;)
