My best friend would debunk this theory, albeit she would love to have a girl, but she is about to birth her second son even after trying gender swaying conception techniques. Her DH cycles at least 60km a day to/from work plus mountain biking every week. She cycles up to birth too :) Maybe they are just the other end of the odds as BW points out.
They say the same about scuba divers. In DH's circle of diving instructors there are slightly more girls than boys, but still plenty of boys including our two!
Yup they say the same about Bakers as they are near the heat...um I have 2 boys? :) so who knows lol
DH is stressed and we have 2 boys, and my BiL cycles heaps and has 3 girls

Sorry but I don't put much stock in any of this - it is all antedocal, with no real evidence or significant statistics to back any of it up. There is a 50:50 chance of either gender. It is just a random quirk that means some people end up with more of one then the other, and unless the family in question is of significant size then you cann't really say they are more prone to one gender then another (a sample of one or two kids in not a sample).
FWIW - my family has a funny family pattern. I am one of six kids: five girls, one boy (although it would have been two boys, but mum had a still born). One of my aunties has 3 girls, one boy. Another Aunty has 4 boys, one girl. One of my uncles has 3 boys, 1 girl. This is a commone pattern in my family amongst those with large families. I am curious myself to see what my next will be and if I will follow this pattern or not.
Sorry to disagree, but there is plenty of evidence to support this stuff and there is logic behind it.... Dominant women have more boys, men who work in high temps have a tendency to throw out more X sperm, more girls are conceived in the warmer months, more boys are conceived on a full moon etc etc... there are many studies to support these things. Look up some studies by Valerie Grant :):
Yeah - the Y sperm die quicker from heat exposure - so tight sweaty lycra shorts would encourage that. My neighbour is a cyclist and has 1 of each, however they claim their son was conceived in winter!! Too much heat will damage both Y and X sperm eventually.
DH's cousin has been a pilot for many years and has produced 3 girls - Y sperm don't appear to like the radiation either!! Interestingly, studies have also found that flight attendants have high miscarriage rates compared with the general population.
I would love a girl next but I certainly won't be exposing myself to radiation unecessarily prior to conception!
I did it for all 7 of my kids...and it was spot on! Coindidence maybe but that is a good coincidence :D:
Boy sperm are much more fragile than the girl sperm, the heat kills them off quite quickly.
That is why if you are trying for a boy DTD right on ovulation as the boy sperm swim faster but die quicker.
So I agree with Jellybean tight lycra and long hot sweaty rides would do that.
My dad is a truckdriver and had 5 girls! Haha! But he is a stress head so maybe the stress theory is true!?:

Funnily enough, my uncle was rider, in comps ect.. and had 6 girls.. moved towns, stopped riding, and ta da, a boy!!!!!
