Good timing for this thread to be bumped, I was baking today and measuring 30g at a time on analog scales is painful. (And I wasn't familiar enough with the recipe to guesstimate)
So...am I reading that digital scales is digital scales and there's not a huge difference from brand to brand?
What did you end up getting Ray?
With your 30 grams Nelle... I wonder if that could be translated to something like a heaped tablespoon (my guessimate for 30gm). I don't think I've ever had to measure out 30gm.... but I agree, it would be painful on an analog.
Bath, I am horrifically bad at cooking. So I'm really cautious when making new things. Once I've made it once, I'm more likely to do the heaped teaspoon thing.

LOL Out of curiosity I consulted my spice cabinet and extracted an unopened sachet of tumeric weighing 25gm. Yep, looks like a heaped tablespoon ;) But yeah, I concede a small digital set of scales could come in handy... I just really struggle with the idea of too much gadgetry in my proudly ultra basic kitchen!
Funny timing, I just bought a set of digital scales today LOL! I had a digital set which was wonderful until I dropped it
last week :doh:. Harris Scarfe have a sale on until tomorrow with 50% off some brands of scales. I bought a Morganware Elite set with a huge display on them and I am very happy with them. I use my scales mainly to weigh parcels to work out postage costs, but they come in so handy for cooking too!
I have a conversion sheet somewhere to convert weight to other measurements depending on the item. For example 20gms of butter is 1 tbsp. So for 30gms of butter it is 1 1/2 tbsp.

Bath, one day I would love to have the traditional scales, I really like older style stuff as well. But I have come to appreciate compact, multi-functioning equipment with a kitchen that has not much bench space! Digital scales that can slide neatly and compactly away somewhere are what I need for now. :)
