Lol, yes, my birthday isn't until mid next month, so I still have some time to decide. And my mum has just arrived from Germany and we realised that her mixer, which she adores, only has a 700W motor (it's a Bosch built-in model). So was wondering whether I really need that much grunt. But you have a good point. I will never regret having gotten a model that is too strong. But I would definitely regret if the model I had chosen was too weak.
Thanks for your opinion MsPink. Will let you know once I decide...

My new mixer arrived yesterday. I'm in love with it, although I haven't even used it yet. I ended up going for the Kenwood EON Classic KM002. Will let you know once I made some bread with it. It actually even came with the glass blender and food processor attachments.

Will be interested to know how it goes. I remember my mum had a Kenwood with all the attachments including the blender.

so, I made some bread tonight. It seemed to work really well. But after about 4 minutes of kneading I could detect just a slight whiff of that "overworked electrics" smell IYKWIM. is that normal? I was a bit disappointed as I was well within the maximum load range (it states 2.18kg for bread and i was making a 1kg loaf). It did the job beautifully. But the smell made me a bit sceptical about the quality and longevity of the machine. I'm kinda glad I bought the 5 year extended warranty... Oh, please don't tell me I bought a dud!!!

It is quite normal - the parts are still brand new.
You should find the smell goes away after the first few uses :)

Limeslice, I LOVE you for saying this. I was so worried I made a huge expensive mistake. So, I guess I just have to use it a lot for the smell to disappear quickly :-)
I do love the machine. It didn't sound like it was overloaded. It looks pretty, too. although I do have to admit that the kitchenaid does look funkier. But this one does look heavy duty.

Sasa - I 2nd LS opinion... just because it's all shiny and new!!!
I hope you are enjoying it....after all that deliberating..

Thanks girls. of course you were right. the smell is now gone! And it mixes my dough like a charm. Shame that the bloody yeast I bought was out of date! GRRRRRR!
Will just have to wait til my sourdough starter is ready next week...

Glad to hear it Sasa :) Shame about the yeast though I am sure you will make up for it next week!

I hope so. The loaf i baked yesterday is so heavy, i think I could use it as a weapon - lol.
