Lol tashy, I just posted for an egg WHITE sub, I have an awesome GF recipe tht I've changed it's gluten, dairy, soy, sugar free and NEARLY vegan! Once I find the substitue that works I'm going to start my blog! I have an allergy friendly banana bread recipe too!

tashy - thanks heaps for the egg substitute suggestions, it is my DS who's allergic, shall def try some of those. Re the butter I think it was Olive who made the butter from the EDC book.
organic-girl - egg white sub is a great idea. I don't think I've ever tried to make s'thing that should have egg-white!
Re the bolognaise sauce, my DH thinks it's too meaty and I can't seem to get the texture just right. So the other day I made 2 batches but browned the mince (shop-bought) in the pan. I think it was nicer that way. I also add capsicum & mushroom to mine (as no onion). Plus some crushed tomato. One of the FB pages the other day had some tips for doing the sauce and they said you can add more tomato & to definitely add the tomato puree. Anyway, next day I made lasagne. The bechamel sauce came up a treat in the TMX, using soy milk, corn flour & goats cheese. But then sadly the GF pasta wasn't cooked in the timeframe it said...so DH rushed out & grabbed takeway (had to feed the littlies) and we had it the next night after 40 mins more in the oven. It was AWESOME! Had hoped DH would cope with the goats cheese, but still didn't go so well. Bummer.
I think I've been going through a teensy disillushionment stage with my TMX. I've just had a run of recipes not quite working, or no-one wanting to eat them (apricot chicken - fail TWICE the rice is always crunchy!), and my DS just will not touch any rice dishes :(. So I'm attempting to find my mojo & get back to it again. I also need to start looking up new dip recipes as I still can't get my hommus quite right, and when I made the sundried tomato & capsicum DH just didn't touch it, and cos it has cashews I don't have it with the kids... so that didn't get eaten up. Plus I think sometimes my DH finds it easier to go for things in packets IYKIWM. Bit frustrating that. So do I have a very expensive juice & hot chocolate maker, lordy I hope not! I figure it's just part of the adjustment. In the new year I'm toying with starting my own blog (once I finish my project 365) to help me focus on being creative & recording what works for our restrictions. I think that's my other issue cos I have to substitute in almost every single recipe I make, so things don't always work out.
Anyway it's birthday party time this week - the cakes won't be made in the thermomix as I have got cake mix (sad, I know) that is egg, gluten, dairy, nut, fruit & rice free! Wonder what's in it hahahaha. Feels like a minor miracle (and yes, the rice issue is not ours - but one of the little guests).
with the hommus l like mine with some cumin in it...maybe try taht...or google general hommus recipes and convert them!

Surprised, I keep meaning to look at it more! And now I'll probably sound like I'm whinging, but sometimes folks with a super-healthy focus (lol) count us out cos they use a lot of fruit or nuts that we can't eat. So I just went and looked at 4 different recipes on her site, and every one had a significant ingredient I can't use - nuts (DS), dates (me), coconut (me)... etc. Now you see why I think I need to start my own blog, even if it's only me that reads it :lol:.:
Olive - I tried adding cumin & roasted garlic to my hommus which was delish in flavour, but it was just too thick and my DS (who is still young enough to be quite unco) couldn't dip in it. I think I need to add some ice... but just a bit. Last time i added too much and it was runny but with chickpea chunks IYKWIM...it just didn't work. I've gotta remember that if at first you don't succeed... ;).
Do you add oil to your hummus??
Yeah I made it pretty much as per the EDC recipe. I have tried making it in my old food processor (long since banished)! and it was alright... I guess I just get slack at trying it again.:
Belfie - I go through stages as well. I get a bit sick of cleaning the TMX, tbh. Slack of me I know. It's not that hard :redface: It must be hard with all the dietary restrictions. I downloaded an app the other day which you can tick different restrictions and it comes up with recipes. You could then convert to TMX.
Does anyone else have little nicks all over your hands from cleaning the blades? I'm pedantic about it and I seem to nick myself all the time. I am so glad of the safety features. There have been times I am so tired, I could do myself some damage trying to add ingredients with the thing going, if it wouldnt beep at me when I'm trying to do something stupid.
I just made my first all-in-one meal tonight. I found a couple of recipes for fish and combined/adjusted. I steamed the fish in the Varoma tray, on top of some vegies, with rice cooked in the bowl in a mix of water, vegie stock & white wine. I then made a sauce with garlic, ginger, coriander seed, chilli, herbs from my garden (parsley & mint) - blitzed then sauted in oil (sunflower & sesame), added tamari sauce, a bit of water & some sugar and cooked again. Turned out nicely. The rice was lovely. The half of a tiny chilli I used was very strong. Friends gave us some they had grown and they're tiny so you think they're harmless. they are very hot :) Anyway, a small win for me. I told DH if it didn't work I was going to get fish & chips. A downside is I wont use the left over rice as it might be a bit fishy. I dont want to risk it.
We have our Varoma demo this weekend. i will be getting my cookbooks and it means I can order another Thermoserver.
I have some left over blueberry fruity dream I think I might wizz for dessert. That stuff is so yummy. With this hot weather, I'll have to make some more ice cream. This time I'll use normal sugar - rapadura sugar doesn't seem to work well.
i get cuts too tash! though i do like my thermomix brush for cleaning!!

Belfie - aw that sucks! Can you remind us what you can't eat? Do you use lemon juice in your hommus?
Tashybabe - hehe my understanding is that the smaller the chilli, the hotter it will be! Do you know you can just put a tiny drop of detergent in with some water and put the tmx on to clean it? Of course depends on what you've made. I must admit I've never cut myself... we only rarely take it apart to clean, and it often goes in dishwasher.
Tonight I made a yum yum rice dish with leftover lamb kebabs. Cooked rice with a bit of cumin and curry powder, steamed some vegies on top. Then removed, sauteed up the already-cooked lamb, onion, garlic, ginger, and mushrooms with some stock. Then mixed it all together (out of tmx), added more stock powder (mmm salt!) and it was delish. Only slight downside was that the meat really fell apart to semi-mince even though I did it on reverse. I seem to have trouble with tmx and meat.
Now I just need dessert!
Surprised - yup I do use lemon juice but I think my lemons are really strong, as the first one was VERY lemony! (we have a big lemon tree). Re food... ok here goes:
DS - no eggs, no treenuts
DH - no dairy (not lactose, but all dairy)
Me - fructose malabsorption - which cuts out wheat, onion (& onion family), legumes (mostly), artichoke, asparagus, coconut cream & milk, honey, most fruits (I can just have a bit of berries, bananas & citrus - but nothing too concentrated), a few sweeteners that are very high in fructose and especially things like dried fruits (sultanas, currants, raisins, prunes, figs... nope).
So each one on it's own is quite doable, but when you combine them all it gets a bit tricky. We've always done a lot of tomato based dishes in the past, but the kids don't really like them. I've just finished losing some weight (14kg) and one of the things I realised is that I had used my food restrictions as an excuse to pig out & indulge myself - for many years. So part of getting my TMX is an attempt to overcome our restrictions in a creative & positive way. Sometimes we become too routine with a limited variety in what we eat. So I'm trying to challenge myself to make more variety. Certainly having the TMX means I'm more likely to cook a dairy dish for me & the kids one night, and a coconut & onion curry for DH another night... and then we get to have a greater range of enjoyable foods.
Surprised and Tashy - both of you, your dinner sounded awesome btw, yum yum, makes me want dinner again lol.
Tashy - what is the name of the app? I'm going to look at the official TMX app too. And I meant to say earlier that I get what you like about getting the cookbook instead. I think i look at my cookbooks too much and should surf the net a bit more. Incidentally I have the two thermoservers and I find it so useful! You'll love having another I reckon. I'm waiting on the GF book, apparently it's on backorder.... hope it doesn't take too much longer.
Wow that's crazy Belfie. I thought dairy, soy and gluten free was bad! Can you have dextrose (since it's only glucose)?
i just converted a Pioneer Woman vegetable risotto in to a thermomix one!! it worked!!
Have not read this whole thread yet, but I went to a demo today I was so much more impressed then I thought I would be. I was not a big fan of what the demonstrator made (to much garlic in just about everything for my liking). I actually put my name down to talk about becoming a consultant (bit nervous though) but I think I have my work cut out to convince DH that the money will be worth it.

so far on the list is sorbet, pizza dough, ice cream (dh's idea lol) and rissotto.....
we dont have any allergys, only DH needs wholemeal/multigrain in breads etc.....

I'm not sure I can justify the cost ATM - we eat quite healthily anyway and cook most things from scratch but there are aspects that definitely appeal.
