Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Kazbah, thanks for reminding me how good and easy TM risottos are. We had a leek and green bean risotto to go with lamb chops tonight, and it was the perfect accompaniment. We're doing the Failsafe elimination diet, so it's nice to have something that's almost exactly like what we'd normally eat!

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I love using the TMX mushroom risotto as a base for adding different veges to mix up the flavours a little. The other night I put baby spinach leaves in the bottom of the thermoserver and when the risotto was done I poured the hot mixture over the spinach leaves, sprinkled some toasted pine nuts and crispy chorizo and Parmesan over the top and let it rest for 5mins. Oh my goodness.. So delicious. :)

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I had a demo on Sunday so will shortly be getting my half price second bowl and blade :-)
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I had a demo on Saturday and got my second bowl set. So excited! Hehehe
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I had one of those risottos the other day - mushroom recipe base, added zucchini and asparagus and a chicken breast that I pan-fried separately. DH doesn't really like the texture of steamed meat. Yum.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Ocean - I have been buying smoked chook breast and slicing that through - yum.
Yeps, I got my second bowl and blade too! Delivered on Friday arvie :) Had a sale at my party so even cheaper :)
Tonight I'm reheating the leftovers for the kid, DH and I will have kievs. Lazy night ;)
Need to make more biscuits - really wish I had a lot of cheap blanched almonds.

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Made a recipe tonight for what I thought would be a great spag bol and it was terrible! So so so bland and I had to rescue it by throwing in so much other stuff. So gutted because I was so excited about making a sauce from scratch with no nasties in it. Anyone got an awesome recipe?

Kelly how did your meat turn up? Last time I did that it turned up more like a thin meat paste. Taste was OK, but I tend to throw in heaps of basil, thyme and oregano. Plus red wine.

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I made Quirky Jo's & it was great.
Had loads of flavour & the meat was like it should be.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Tonight I made chicken, bacon and garlic creamy sauce pasta and then fruity dream with blueberries for dessert - YUMMO!!!

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
At my demo was asked what I make most often - that is a hard one, because I don't like making the same thing over and over - I love trying new things all the time - but the one thing I do make over and over (although probably never exactly the same) is the Cyndi O'Meara Vegatarian Sausage Rolls - I can use up all sorts of veg in them and they taste great everytime and always loved by the little ones (is the feta, oats and walnuts that I think are the key).
What do other people make over and over?
I am also ordering a Quirky Cooking cookbook from my consultant :-)(saves on postage)

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Kaz, we use half chicken mince and half beef mince here (its really nice!) so there is a different consistency with it - but the thermie did result in it having very fine bits of meat, but not terrible. It was more the sauce that tasted like watery meat with a bit of tomato. I used tomato paste, fresh tomato, fresh basil, dried italian herbs, veg stock, onion, garlic, a bit of bacon, zucchini, a bit of dijon mustard, stevia instead of sugar... trying to remember! Ended up putting tomato soup in it amongst other things to get some depth!
Sounds like another Quirky Cooking recipe for the list then :D

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
What I make most often are-
mushroom risotto (or variations of it!)
Quirky's brown rice and chicken soup
chicken veloute
EDC arrabiata sauce and gnocchi
herb and garlic or ham and cheese pull apart
EDC 5 seed bread
soft boiled eggs
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I make
Custard
Banana muffins
Rice
Pizza base
Pull apart bread
All sorts of biscuits.
I'm sure there is more but this is what I currently make the most.
The Quirky recipe was so simple, my 6yr old made it for us & then we made herb & garlic pull apart bread to go with it.

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I'm hoping to get quirky book too.

I feel the same, so now only do the sauce in the thermie and then I brown the mince in my cast iron casserole dish or the slow cooker and pour the sauce over and finish it off like that.
Just can't get it right and I hate it being the texture of pate. Even when I use the meat they suggest I'm not the hugest fan.

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Have you tried cooking the sauce first then adding the meat at the end? I prefer it this way.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Ordered my second bowl set and chocolate cookbook.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
How exciting BD! I've decided I'm going to get 'quick fix in the thermomix', 'full steam ahead' and the new 'Quirky cooking' cook book. I also ordered the second bowl blade and lid set.. Tip: my lid gets stinky from cooking with garlic and onions so the second lid will be kept for desserts only!
Also, received my 3rd MC in the post today.. The other 2 are badly cracked. :)
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I want quirky too but I have heard that it's prob going to sell out quick. I have the steam one I think BR If you want it. I don't use it.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Oh really BD? That would be fab! How much?
Yeah I think quirky cooking will sell out fast but I'm happy to wait until the next batch come out

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
How long did it take you all for you to get your TMX? From the time your payment was approved?
My finance was approved on the 22nd of April and as far as I know, the machine has still not been dispatched. :(
I have had no contact with them whatsoever, and in fact when I tried to purchase one in the first place it took 10 days of unrepiled emails and finally a phone call before they could even tell me my local reps name.
I have not even hosted a demo, I should be the easiest sale ever, just rang and ordered one!
If this is their pre sales service, I really hope nothing goes wrong after market. :(

Thermomix Lovers United #3
Mine took a little while. Maybe 3 weeks? It was a busy period as I know others who got it in a 2 week turn around. I would contact your consultant. They should be really helpful.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
They are overloaded at moment cause of the bowl promotion. They haven't even processed my payment from 26/4.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Mmm my second bowl has been dispatched, was maybe ordered 1st of May - maybe is different division to new ones though.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
My payment for second bowl was taken but I haven't received confirmation that it's been dispatched. Hope I get it before I have this baby!!
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Still excited :)
Just wish they had them in shops, would be so much easier :)
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
How much are the bowls? I asked my rep twice last month but she didnt say. I got my Thermie very quickly considering it was the Easter long weekend but my rep put in a special request. When will the QC cookbook be out?
Not made much the last week while recovering. Had a gravy flop in it but getting better.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
So after all my whinging, I got it today :D
We made the stock and I have just made the whole orange cake and the chicken and brown rice soup has about 5 mins to go :)
Question, when you make somthing that has a thick batter consistency, what is the best way to get all of the batter out if the bowl and from around the blades? I used a silicone spatula thingy.
Also doing a clean between 2 cakes, do you just chuck some boiling water in and turbo it a couple of times?
My lid got stinky from making the stock, smell won't come out, but I guess mines not the only one.
Also got an awesome new delonghi toaster and kettle today too.
Feeling very lavish. Lol!
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I got my thermomix yesterday - yay for me!
Livinthedream - I also have a few mins left on the same soup! Can't wait to taste it. I have found the spatula provided quite awkward, maybe I will get used to it? My rep suggested buying a baby bottle brush to clean around the blades and I can see why as I have a little trouble with that today.
Have also made the veggie stock, chicken stock paste, chocolate custard, cinnamon scrolls, lattes and the soup!
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Yay for new thermies!
I just use an elcheapo silicon spatula. I was using my not-elcheapo Tupperware one and it got shredded. Funnily enough I have 3 $1 ones and they are awesome and not even nicked after months of use. Yes it awkward. Especially if you're a leftie, but you get used to it.
I use a little tiny bottle brush. I know people swear by the Thermomix ones, but I've never had one, nor needed one so can't give a rating.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Livin - I use a thin grout brush with strong thick bristles to clean the blades. Works for me! Yay for getting your thermie!!!
Belly - the bowls are $395 I think? If you hosted a demo in April then you got to purchase the bowl for $195. Bargain!!
Ang - yay for a new thermie!! The spatula is a bit awkward but is useful if you need to mix things while the blades are spinning (like the sorbet). I find that the cheapie silicon spatulas work great and are more flexible to get everything out of the bowl.
Made potato and leek soup for the minions last night from EDC.. They loved it. Toasted some Turkish bread and topped it with garlic and herb butter I had in my freezer. Zomg yum! Today I made the buttermilk bread but used the dough to make cheesymite scrolls. The minions love them for morning tea. Super easy to make too! Have also been cooking extra thermie meals and freezing in prep for baby3.0's arrival next week. My freezer is FULL of yummy things! Risotto, nacho mince, sneaky veg mac cheese.oh! I also made the pea and ham soup from the EDC the other night... This soup is taaaaasty! You need to try this one for sure! 😊

Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I remove batter off the blades by hitting on turbo for a few secs after removing most of the batter. It all gets flung to the edges and is easy to clean off.
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Kazbah - I find that trick is useful for cake batter but bread and dough batter seems to be a bit stickier and doesn't fling to the sides as well so I end up taking apart the bowl and blade to clean it properly. :)
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
I often lick the blades
You just have be careful not to cut your tongue
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
So I have done a slow cooked piece of meat on some sauce in the slow cooker.
And I want to make the sauce into a gravy.
It probably only needs blitzing, but is there any way I can do steamed Vegas in the varoma while cooking the gravy.
Or even better, cam I steam veges while doing mashed potato?
ETA, scrap that, just googled and figure it out :D
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
The veggies tend to better cooked on the varoma temp for more steam.. But this will burn what is in the bowl if it's not liquidy enough (so a mash wouldn't work) does that make sense?
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Got my second bowl set today!!! Yay!!
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Mine hasn't showed up yet :-(
If I give my current one a really good clean tomorrow that will make the second one arrive right? :-)
-
Re: Thermomix Lovers United #3
Yep! That should do it ;)
Actually, plan to have a baby the week your second bowl arrives when you could actually use it because when I get home I'm sure I'll have a heap of time to be using two bowls!! Hehehehe
