Well back to work for me after 6 weeks holidays- I dont know what has hit me, and now is going to be a BIG BIG test of eating well and keeping up my excercise.
A big focus for the Ed. Dept this year is the health and well being of the staff, so yesterday as part of our proffessional development we had some guy (very technical I know) came and was talking about health and well being- in terms of stress and job satisfaction etc. and he said some very intersting things about health and excercise that made alot of sense to me. The first thing he said was that people who think of excercise in terms of going for a walk/run/swim etc find excercise a chore, people who think of themselves as a walker/ runner/ jogger etc see it as part of their everyday life therefor they have had the shift in mindset that allows them to reap the benifits of that excercise fully. He also said that for most woman if they dont excercise first thing in the morning, statistically they are less likely to go, because they just get too caught up in the day to day mechanics of life. The other thing he said that I found to be uite true was that when a woman excercises alone (for the most part) she see's it as a chore, when she does it in a social setting it becomes a much ore pleasurable experience. Anyway I just thought I would share as I found it quite interesting, especially what he said about how we think about excercise, and I think for me that is why I will be successful this time as I LOVE going to my PT session, they have become part of who I am, not just what I do.
Ali, that makes sense for sure.
Great post Ali. That makes a lot of sense to me. This has been my most successful endeavour to lose weight and although my weight isn't coming off quickly I can sense that I have made a long-term change. Although my eating is a bit up and down my exercise is right on target and I am actually really enjoying it and can't believe I feel like an active person again.
Maybe because we are a bit into it we can all post what changes we have made that we think have been really successful as a motivation to everyone else?
I think I have been successful this time because I have integrated my core exercise into different parts of my life (eg. riding to work, getting in to a team sport) and then started complementary exercise (eg. jog once a week, stretching in front of the tv) that helps how I feel in my core exercise. I am also doing a few different types of exercise which is helping to prevent boredom (which I am prone to). Most of my exercise has been outside which helps me de-stress and cope with the rest of my life. I am also planning to take up a pilates/yoga class which I am going to use as a reward if I reach my weight loss target in two weeks because I love yoga and pilates but it isn't cheap so want to prove to myself I can and will do it.
Krys, you are doing so very well losing 5.5! I am really proud of you
Thanks QB! I ended up adding the 2kg on that I lost in the week before the challenge started. I wasn't going to originally but then thought why not?!? So 3.5kg since the challenge started. As I lose weight I keep thinking "this was the weight I was when I .....". Can't wait for the "this is the healthiest I have even been" feeling.
Isn't it good when you think "this is the weight I was when...."
I am 2 kilos lighter now than what I was just before I fell PG with our DD. So that's great!
Wow that is awesome!! I definitely can't wait for that moment!
Well done to all of you :)
Sorry for the lack of posts recently having some major marriage issues :( I have still been eating well but not really exercising but hoping to get back on track this weekend. It doesnt help my gym buddy is over east for the week. I had started my period on weigh in day and only showed a 100g loss but now AF is at her end i am feeling alot thinner so was naughty and got on the scales. It shows a 1kg loss since wed so i am thinking i lost more last week than the 100g last week but i was holding lots of fluid. That means i've lost 5.1kg since starting the challenge and have only 4.9kg to go. OMGoodness i am over half way there and it feels awesome. I no longer think of this as a diet iykwim. I am actually making healthy choices without thinking about it. My lifestyle is changing. Lots of little changes too such as when i go shopping i park further away so i have to walk more further through the car park, I make more of an effort to play physical games with DD's if they ask for a movie i offer the park instead or to go jump on the trampoline with her etc just so i dont find myself sitting on my bottom too much.
I have had ppl start to notice and comment on my muffing top and face which is nice too.
Well have healthy and fun weekends everyone.
OKay it's been avery very bad day for me today.
The worst since I started to get healthy.
I've had (breakfast) two croissants and two coffees. Morning tea nothing. LUnch a small tin of spaghetti and two slices of white bread and butter. (Not so bad up to here).
Went swimming with the kids and had a large Python. Then we stopped at Maccas on the way home. And I had a Big Mac meal with diet coke, followed by a coffee and muffin, followed by eating DS2's cone...
And I feel SICK SICK SICK!
I think it's days like these that remind me of how far I've come. Before this year, I would have eaten it all and though nothing of it... now I feel truly ill.
So I'm getting healthier... back on track now! No more bad!
Div, You said it there babe, and this awareness will mean that this is the year that you WILL suceed in getting healthy!:
think it's days like these that remind me of how far I've come. Before this year, I would have eaten it all and though nothing of it... now I feel truly ill.
We had a sausage sizzle for dinner and I felt so guilty as they were "normal" butchers sausages (ie full fat) as they were the only ones left in the freezer instead of the lean 98% fat free lean steak ones I have been buying.
I started to feel guilty until DH said "Relax...it used to be that this is ALL you ate, with loads of slices of white bread spread with butter and onions fried in oil, and full fat mayo, along with a glass of wine or six or a huge glass of coke. Now you are having a sausage and salad. Its fine."
Ali, your bloke that spoke at work: he sounds like he has his head screwed on! I have noticed that since other people are associating me with "fit things" (ie freinds and family acknoledge that I now run for my hobby) that I have changed my perception of myself as well. Sad that it takes other peoples view to convince myself, but I'll admit to having to suck that one up: its just the way I am manufactured, LOL!
Ummmmmmmmm.Very quiet in here girls?
I just finished watching "The Biggest Loser"and CRIED my eyes out, LOL!
I'll be honest, I LOVE THE BIGGEST LOSER. I find it the ultimate in inspiration.
And tomorrow at 6am I go back to personal training.
SO, let's hope I get my fitness mojo back!
I've just gotten back from an INCREDIBLE weekend, ate healthy all weekend, did exercise, got to cuddle a horse, fed my soul!
i doubt i will lose any this week. i need to get back on track after a bad couple of days! i have been having some wine, malibu and diet coke and we had take away thai last night. we never eat take away! AF is coming i think (well i am 6 days late) but i have big sugar cravings when they are almost here! this is the first time i have really come off track actually. i've been doing so well and now i am super disappointed
i'm watching the biggest loser. I know this is a bit off topic, but half the contestants had to row. Thats fine, but the ppl were sunburnt ! How irresponsible that Biggest Loser to not offer sunscreen. They may have had it there, but the sunburn ... Oh dear.
Good on them for knocking back the food! My only issuse with that was, food wastage. There are hungry ppl out there. Ppl living on food parcels week to week.
I had a bad day today, food wise. Didn't eat breaky(had a curly wurly - 2.5 pts) but a pub lunch. It was a steak sandwich with chips. With what info i was armed with, it still ended up being huge in pts. At least it was filling enough that im not hungry for dinner. 2.5pts over today, but had squirrelled away 1.5 from yesterday. So, not too bad. Looking forward to weigh in on wednesday! Im gonna buy the shopping and eating out guide so im more informed - especially when we leave for sydney thursday.
Hope your weekends went well!
I love the biggest loser too, even though the program they keep to is completely unrealistic for real life. It is inspirational, makes me want to get moving.
Well teething is over for the moment and I actually got 7 hrs sleep last night, YAY! I'm am writing out an exercise program for the week and I intend to stick to it. I'm full of motivation to get myself back on track.
Ali, that's great that you got to have that talk, yay for the ed. dept taking that step. I so agree with the exercise in the morning. If I haven't done anything by 10am, I'm less likely to.
Yay for another week!
Dang I missed the biggest loser! I was outside doing some gardening before it got too dark! I guess that counts as some light exercise then :) Did about 25 minutes on my elliptical trainer this morning and it was awesome. I love that feeling you get when you've had a good workout and you're hot and sweaty and feel energised ;)
ATM am caving and made that 5 minute chocolate mug cake that was in another thread :) It is yum and I am sharing it with DP :)
