Still doing terribly. I've had an horrific week and food has been the last thing on my mind. Well actually, it's the first thing on my mind, which is the problem! Trying to get into again. This struggle so sucks. Why is it that even though I want it so much, I have wanted it for so long, I think about it all the time. I feel better when I do it and achieve what I want with losing weight....I am STILL struggling?

Ok joining in (again). Gosh been on the same yoyo for a year now. Gain 5, lose 5. Blah sick of it. Think I am tracking to maintain, then I find that I popping the button on jeans that last year I had to use a belt to hold up! I thought working again would help, like it did last year, but NO.
Toyed with signing up to to the Michelle Bridges plan, but realised that I needed to spend that money on some emotional work instead. I have the TWD books and have followed it with success in the past, I basically know what I should be doing and works with me (not too many carbs).
I am being slack for whatever reason (hence doing the emotional work), plus I know I need to work on some nutritional stuff. Normally I would see a naturopath, but have decide to go for a superfood powder to see how that goes. If no improvement, then I will book in again to get more specific supplements.
Started to track with CalorieKing. Mmm thought today was ok, but really it was not. So obviously my inner food tracker has gotten out of whack. DH is away most of this week, so I have sat down and done a proper meal plan for the girls and myself this week. Where I am cooking something that the girls will eat, but is not so great for me, I have bought some lean cuisines for those nights instead.
So, tomorrow I will weigh in and measure (eek), so I have a good starting base point (again). Sick of this really. Sick of the up and down. Sick of being fat. Thought I was over it last year, but I was wrong.
Oh, the exercise side of things. Not much for now. Won't be joining a gym, considered it, but don't have the free time to make it worth the money. DD1 is going to martial arts, thought I would go for a walk whilst the lessons are on, but no, I have to stay and watch  The house needs lots of cleaning and the garden lots of work, so that will be my main exercise for the moment, along with what I can sneak in with the Wii.
Ok, lets make this my last time I join a weight loss thread!
-
hey all!
welcome astrid! just a thought for you re exercise - am a single mum with toddler and no extra time or cash (am a postgrad student too) and so i did a lot of looking around for something that would give me the boost i needed to get off my (then) very fat hiney to get it slimmer and found intervals. i started with an mp3 i bouht off the internet that essentially coached me through what it was and how i was meant to do it and now i just do it myself. it takes less than 15 mins excluding the stretches afterwards. i do 1 min of aerobic somethings (usually star jumps but sometimes hundreds (pilates)) followed by 1 min of anaerobic (usually grande plies in 2nd, but mix it up with squats, oblique lifts or marching (if am really unenergised)). do 6 rounds of 1:1 mins and then i do 2 mins at the very end of just marching on the spot as a warm down and then stretches which takes another few mins.
but yeah, just though i would put it out there as a suggestion since you were saying you were short on time. generally i try to get them done at some point during the day, either when bub is down for his nap or sometimes when he is up (he joins in) but otherwise i just do them before bed and then can go to sleep guilt free! :P
oh and re your lean cuisine frozen meals (are they the ones that come in a box?) why not try to introduce healthier options to your girls too? i mean our children like what we like, and ultimately to give them a better gift in life surely a palate that appreciates stir fry veges, meatloaf (which in our house is at least 60% vege) or chickpeas over mac and cheese or fried meats/chips etc would be just that, thus eliminating future struggles with weight that we have experienced through poor choices.... just a thought.
AFM: got back my newly tailored (waist tuck) skinny jeans and OMG they are so fabulous! have never worn skinnys before as always looked like a lollipop - long legs with great big bum at the top - so this is the first pair have ever owned! am so excited! loving it!
oh and leesa, this is for you: i tried on my old size 11s the other day and can pull them up and do them up with no struggle! woohoo! thank you for your tough love and inspiration! still have work to do, but there is another goal achieved right there!

I am so missing having every meal cooked for me and twice daily yoga. So I've found some ok-ish yoga on youtube (which I can watch on my tv), have re-arranged the loungeroom so the yoga mat can go down in front of the tv, sorted out my fridge, worked out menus for the next week and right now for exercise I'm moving furniture around (using variations of yoga poses to stretch myself out).
Also planning on walking home from work each day.
-
Livvy - thanks for the tips. We are quite healthy with the girls and normally they eat what we eat. It is just that they can get away with a lot more pasta than I can and I promised them a meal pick this week. They chose a cheesy mac and veg. My problem is predominately portion size and snacking, especially on the girls leftovers.
Would love it if I was a single parent right now. I would not have DD1 in martial arts, I would join the gym that also has kids sessions. That way we could be exercising at the same time. Also I could then exercise at home when I want, how I want. DH is anti any home equipment like bikes and cross trainers. Frankly DH is a pain in the bum when it comes to exercise, he is the expert negative Nellie, knows better and always thinks it should be done differently.
Tracked quite well with CK today. Now just need to make sure I don't ruin it tonight!
-
astrid, honey, are you sure you're not making excuses exercise-wise? am not meaning to be critical in a "just being horrid" way, just trying to give you a fresh view, to question what you've ruled out and why.
am glad to hear that you're healthy and just have issues with carbs, portions and snacking. honestly that is exactly where i was when i started this weight-loss bent. i still ate what we all ate as a whanau but i just would serve myself a larger amount of veges and skip the pasta, potatoes, rice or bread. i felt there was no need to go hungry, just to change my habits. and maybe skip the snaking at 5pm lol! **(just realised it sounded like this was pre-diet me, is just that have relaxed my rules a little now as feel am mostly on track!)
in terms of your DH, i don't have exercise equipment (have no funds to buy/rent even 2nd hand) so i just do things that don't need it, which is why i chose intervals. they are quick and have no need for equipment or large areas of space or to leave the house (if is raining or 11pm).
maybe sit your DH down and have a talk about how you're feeling - how you need to change your body or it'll just suck you into big black hole (if you feel anything like i did!). if he has a problem with you choosing to work out at home then maybe he needs to budget time that he has the girls so you can go to the gym or go for a run or whatever you really want to do to shift those 5kg permanently. if he can't find that time then he'll just have to live with an exercise bike in his lounge or whatever (several of the girls on here (belfie, mildez possibly more) have exercise bikes and they love them, admittedly am rather jealous lol!).
and honey, don't make yourself feel like you're going without if your girls are having a vege mac and cheese and you really would love some too. what we've been doing is we'll cook the pasta, veges and cheese sauce separately and then everyone can just have the amounts they want. i just skip the pasta and have veges with a tiny bit of cheese sauce and then a good dash of tamari sauce over the whole lot! :D

Honestly Livvy, if you lived my husband for the week, you would understand. It is not a looking for an excuse thing, it is a keeping the peace thing, too many battles and I have to pick what ones I fight for. Don't worry though, I am gently pointing out where he is wrong with his "oh, but why don't you help with the fencing, dig garden beds...." reasons for why I should not do different forms of exercise. Today I stumped him when I just replied, "but you spend a lot of time in the garden and look at the size of your gut!" Shut him up quite quickly ;)
-
lol! excellent! well, i hope you manage to find something that works for you... maybe a local yoga or pilates class once a week to get you started (i go to one one a sat morning at our community centre) and then that is something that you can do quietly in the corner of your bedroom after the girls are in bed... all you need is nice towel, slightly cushy rug or a camping mat/bed roll and you're away laughing! good luck! :D
-
To quote MrsNerdBerger, I fell off the wagon and rolled down the bloody hill...and it was a big hill! I have been MIA and I have put on 1.5kg  I have been overeating (no thanks to Costco!) and not much exercise so I'm hoping to stick to a routine, calorie counting and DH is going to help me with the motivation. So here I go again!
-
AF turned up last night. Then it dawned on me why I have been struggling so terribly these past few days/week or so. LOL.
So for the millionth time, back to it. I do feel more positive today. I have started tracking with CK again. Again and again. I will get there one day I suppose.
-
hi ladies, thought I'd poke my nose in :)
3LM - aaah AF, she's a cow huh. And well done for picking yourself back & up & doing it - that's the key I reckon! Can't do it if you don't try!
Tinsel - I'm cheering for you too!! Great to have DH on board as well :cheer:
Astrid - I love your response to your DH, well done! How is your week going? And when you lose the 5kg, do you keep weighing or do you stop? Incidentally I saw a woman at the playground the other week doing pushups, step ups etc while her child played. I was so impressed. A few folks gave her funny looks but she just kept going. So I said good on you. (It was a very public playground near a supermarket too).
Livvy - woo hoo on the the jeans fitting! And I reckon the intervals is a great idea. I reckon you're so right, it doesn't matter about having equipment, it's just about having SOMETHING to do and doing it regularly.
AFM, well life in the "lost it" camp has been interesting. My first week and I had a bad tummy (due to my malabsorption issue) and was freaking out that I'd already gained 1kg and omg how will I keep it off etc etc... but then as soon as my gut settled, the weight dropped back down. Phew. I also did some clothes shopping. Yeah. 80's clothes SO don't suit a short, top-heavy person with big shoulders. Pastels. Stripes. Urgh! So it took some hunting but eventually I found some awesome stuff. Tunic style tops & leggins are looking great. I tried to get some jeans, but yep, the old problem-waist is still there. I fit into a... (omg wait for it)... size 7! *faints*. But it isn't kind for my waist (even though I'm slim now, they still gave me a major muffin-top). The chick at Jag tried to tell me to suck it up, and I said nope, I wear lots of other stuff that makes me look better than this. So I'll keep hunting for some that fit my shape. I also found it hard to know how much to eat, but I think I'm sorting it out now. I've settled back to doing 30 mins exercise most days and I'm feeling like I don't want to ever go back to what I was... but I also I won't ever eat the way I used to either. I still weigh once a week cos I'm a bit paranoid about gaining without realising.
My DH is also really trying hard againafter an initial loss, he's had 2 weeks of gains - has been exercising well enough but not eating quite as well as he could (IMO!). So he's asked me to hide the chocolate which is fine by me cos I'm scared I'll pig out on it! I'm feelign really hopeful for him that he's gonna get there too. Plus he's having to squeeze into his suit again this morning. He asked me if I'd let the pants out for him, and I said no :whip:,
geesh I'm a cow!!
And just to reiterate... NOTHING tastes as good as feeling this good feels. Hang in there guys, you'll thank yourselves for it.
-
Ok, weigh in happened today........87kg :o Where did that come from? :wall: Oh, well I have starting point now. Still have to do the measurements.
Have already exercised today. Decided to do it before any housework, well I did put a load of washing on. Did about 45 minutes with Just Dance on the Wii, probably was about 30 minutes of actual exercise due to waiting, messing around with batteries etc Some big cleaning still to follow, so more exercise there. At least this time, I wont have put off exercise for cleaning
Almost had a melt down though, as I got myself all motivated and DD2 was screaming for me to go outside with her. Almost had me in tears, as it seems if I am not sabtaging myself, life seems out to get me. Thankfully after 5 minutes on the swing she wanted to go back inside. She was a bit if a pain with the Wii, wanting her own songs and getting upset that she did not get the star.
Work is getting more health conscious. Cakes/biscuits will be kept to a minimum and fruit platters are going to be done some days!
Belfie - wow on size 7!!
-
Have to do a reset on my Calorie King account, it keeps on wanting me to do checkins for the last 2 years. So I will lose my last few days of data and probably my custom meals. Oh well, fresh start!
Home today, as DD2 was ill all night and now I am sleep deprived. Have to really keep control of my eating, as being tired just makes me want to nibble all day.
How is everyone else going??
-
Thread killer??? Do we have a emoticon for that?
-
LOL, you're not a thread killer! I think everyone has joined the 12wk challenge thread and deserted this one. It was busy here a few months ago.
AFM, I have totally lost my mojo. Again. I have been sick and DH is on nights which is a big trigger for me and eating terribly. I eat out of boredon and from being lonely. I know that, but it's just all too hard for me while I've been sick too. As well as having two sick kids. It's been a long week!
-
3lm - oh no, that is not good. Sick kids is a toughy  Understand the lonely, boredom thing. It used to be when DH went away I would pig out for 2 nights, then I would settle back into good eating habits. These days I am not so affected by it for some reason.
I thought about the 12 week challenge thread, but I am doing slow and steady (well I hope ;) ), so don't want a full on challenge with a deadline right now. Maybe once I am in a groove, I will see. Still working out what I am doing.
Finding CK confusing. Seems the more I exercise, the more I can eat, oh well time will tell if it suits me or not. Seems I am so inconsistent with my eating, more so than what I thought. Looks like I tend to days where I am way under with calories, then other days I was way over. There overall effect though is weight gain.
Time to get meal planning, going shopping this arvo!
-
Astrid, you sound similar to me. I am inconsistent with how I eat too. Once you figure CK out, it is very informative. I have stopped tracking for now, probably most of my problem! I'm not really watching what I eat, just making sure I don't eat crap. But I find I eat either waayyyyy too much carbs, or way too much fat. When I don't eat alot of carbs or fat I struggle to meet calories. Plus because I'm bfing, my calories is higher, at 2000 cal a day, which is actually alot of food! Then if I exercise, I am usually in a calorie 'deficite' because I have exercised it off. I tend not to eat what I have exercised off though, because it is so much food as it is!
I've gotta get back into a groove too I thought I had until we all got sick! Bleugh! Hopefully by just not eating junk, I can keep a little motivated and jump back on the wagon properly....again!
-
hi all!
have essay deadline coming up... gah. am just trying to read it all now and sort out what needs work, what needs culling and what is goodish... brain just feels dead!
wow belfie, size 7!! goodness me! and i don't use more than one exclamation mark lightly lol! this might sound a bit cheeky, but how did you ever have children with hips that teeny?
well astrid and 3LM, i hope you two are managing to keep it together.. am totally with you on having a deadline astrid, that would have been waay too scary for me. i didn't set myself a deadline, well i set a vague one in that i wanted to have my nan notice at her birthday party, but that wasn't a i want to be finished or to have lost x amount of kgs, was just a noticeable difference (whatever that might have been), nd i achieved it a week early as i saw my nan about a week before hand and she said to my mum that she thought i was looking great! and that was about 5kg ago or something! :P
so i guess it's good to have something in sight like an event to go to that there will be people who you don't see often, but will see that you've lost some weight. but also i guess the thing might be to not have to punish yourself to meet a weight goal by that time. just for it to be noticeable to someone else in a way that would make them comment (so you know without asking lol!), rather than having to be xx kgs by that time, which would make it more of an obsessive thing, which could/would likely end up as being something utterly detrimental. does this make any sense?
like maybe having a family birthday or a Christmas party or something like that in a few months that you can flaunt an "on the way" new body.. cos it is good to have goals, just not strict ones that make it unenjoyable because even thought we're depriving ourselves of some things that we love (like for me chocolate biscuits... danger danger!) we're doing so that we feel good about ourselves and in our bodies. right? it's meant to be good, not a chore or something utterly depressing.
there will be set backs, like illness. we were al sick here a few weeks ago and i know it meant that i ate more than i should have of bread (as toast) but it's not like i have to start over and neither does anyone else. because we've started and that means we're already on the road right? rather like an addict having a tiny taste of something they shouldn't have, doesn't mean they've not come to terms with that addiction already. that first step has already been in the right direction and that counts for a lot!
hope it's going well anyway. please excuse the rambling...
