I suck. Couldn't do it :(
L and B your awesome. Its so much harder then i remembered.
The kids have suffered. Its amazing just how much sugar is in our diet without thinking about it.
Really gonna have to do some work to change it.
Everybody gives the kids so much candy and i feel like the big bad wolf when i take it off them- and then what? Do i put it away or throw it away.
Im glad this thread was started :)
Sent from my Galaxy with the barefoot princess covering me in kisses, so please forgive the mistakes

I just weighed myself and I have lost 3.5kg with 30 days sugar free.
I'm pretty much over the cravings & can resist small levels of temptation (i.e. getting bread from bakery, not buying sweets in the shops), but I know i couldn't if they were in the house.
With regards to kids, we let them have 1 treat a week on our sabbath (normally a cake or something in the morning), and some ice cream after the meal. They don't get treats or desert any other time. I wouldn't take treats off them as they will resent it, but when they are older I do plan on telling them how bad it is for their body. That it is ok as a sometimes food, but really it is poison for their body and then let them make the decision.

 awesome Yael! 30 days is great. You must feel amazing.
I had a small piece of cake today :( was in a social situation and decided to have just one. I didn't really enjoy it though, it was a bit sickly. I think it'll be easier to say no next time i'm in that situation. Back to no sugar tomorrow!

I have lost 1 kg since quitting sugar. I am also eating less in general.
I don't crave it any more.
Feeling much better. Now just got to find the time in the day to exercise more.

I fell off the wagon on DS1's birthday. It was a tough day, so I forgive myself. I haven't had refined sugar since but have added honey to things like porridge. I haven't lost any weight, but that may be because I have been eating chip type things, which I normally don't have. I feel like I'm sabotaging myself :(
I have got used to coffee without sugar though.
-
L&B I don't think anyone can criticise you for that! Hugs.
Just wanted to say (and I think you have a TMX?) I make custard with no sugar (or sweetener - just vanilla - which does technically have sugar - but you could use a vanilla bean!) and stir through some pureed apple. Also, mine is done with rice milk, so it's naturally a bit sweeter too.
I have fallen well and truly off the bandwagon. Must get back on. Sugar is scarily addictive!

I had half a cupcake at a party today and it made me feel Ill!

I'm not sugar free anymore, but I hardly have it as when I do all the cravings return! I feel better for it, and know that I can go a few days without it as well as control the urges if I do :)

Just thought I'd pop in for a sec. You guys are doing great! It's not an easy thing to give up sugar, especially the amount in processed foods but the headaches are a great reminder of the addictive qualities of sugar.
Btw, I make custard with banana and cinnamon and vanilla bean paste Yummo!!

How is everyone going with the sugar free eating?
I have been way off that wagon during August and September but I started back again last weekend. No sugar (also no wheat/grains or processed food and very little dairy). I've lost nearly 2kg!!!! but even better than the weight, I feel much more stable in my energy levels and moods. I just feel better all over. Feeling quite motivated to continue.
Reading back through this thread and thinking about where I went wrong last time I think I was trying to have just a "little" bit, like that cake I ate in July. There were small slip ups and I was eating a lot of dried fruit. A little bit will eventually lead to a lot for me. I said no to cake yesterday actually and didn't even miss it!! Hope this resolve continues.

I have had sugar twice in the last 6 weeks and have lost 6.5kg, about 7cm from my waist!
-
I haven't had any for 6 days. Had a headache on day 2 but that was it. So far so good.
-
I fell off the wagon, tumbled down a cliff and lie broken, in a ditch, sucking sugar off the rocks :)
Ok, it's not that bad but when I broke, I went the other way and started stuffing myself. I still don't have coffee with sugar. I'm planning on starting over, but it means a baking ban, which is tough. I just love baking stuff.

Can you use stevia instead?
-
 for Nai and Heaven a big  for L&B. That's kind of how I slipped up too. Spectacularly in the end.

I have slipped up a tiny bit in the last few weeks, mainly because it's all of our religious festivals and there is a lot more junk in the house due to the kids. I think also psychologically I have been weaker because I have to start an extreme elimination diet next week to look for food intolerances, and I know this is the last week I can slip up without stuffing things up major-ly.
I've put back on about 1kg, which is upsetting, but hopefully next week when I can basically eat nothing, it will all come back off again.
I'm a lot better about with-holding temptation when I'm in an OK mood, it's when I'm having a cr@p day and there is junk in the house (mainly if it;'s left over from the kids, my biggest trick to sticking to this is not having anything at all in the house with sugar in it.. but every so often my MIL will bring something for the kids and then the leftovers sit there calling my name!), that's when I fall..
How about you guys.. how do you keep the psychological strength not to go back to your old ways when you are not craving sugar per se, just needing an emotional eating fix?

Going cold turkey
I was doing really well. I also lost about 2kg's sugar free. Then I got very sick. I pretty much only ate sugar for over a month, but due to being so sick, lost another 2-3kg. I have cut sugar and bread again now, but as I am still not that well it is not going as well as it had. I have started drinking coconut water (love it!) and I have joined a FB group called '50day no sugar challenge.' Wish I had the energy to exercise, but I am still in light duties at the moment.
