We start on Monday!!
Imran is getting very excited. We stopped by the school on our way home from our morning coffee this morning and he had a play on the play ground.
I'm kind of torn now - I thought I would be haooy to have some spare time in the days but now I think it might be a bit lonely at home. I'll have to hurry up and get a PT or tennis coach to have an affair with :p
I guess I should find all uniform and make sure that everything is washed and fits. We still don't have a back-pack, we're waiting until the clothing shop at school opens to see if we buy one from them or the shop.
I still have the backpack and art smock and white socks to buy and everything to label. Maria starts next Tuesday.
We are ready to go for Thursday... Physically LOL! I'm going to cry I know it :(
We're all ready to go too. Had the best start interview today, which I wish I hadn't sat in on... I was inwardly saying "come on.. you know that" LOL. So walked away feeling like he should have known this & that :doh: But he did quite well with a lot of the other stuff, so I shouldn't really be worried LOL.
We start on Thursday at 10.15. Kayla has done well so far with preschool yesterday & she's there today as well. Next week I'll feel the silence in the house when they're both off to school/preschool together :(

my eldest starts thursday, 2 more days then he is off, im looking forward to some days of no fighting!! i was realy nervouse, but spoke to one of the prep teachers when i went to organise his books, and well im not worried now, except maybe ill take him to the wrong room!!
I just want to say congratulations to everyone with little ones starting school!
How exciting for them and what a scary step in the parenting 'continuum'!
B starts Monday. I thought I had everything organised but totally forgot I was meant to pay for books and fees yesterday *ulp!*
Going to have to go in tomorrow to do it on the way to taking ds to transition at his new daycare.
There's just so much to get my head around.
Hope everyone is settling in well. Jacob is in his 2nd week and doing ok (told me he was sick yesterday and I believed him as he wasn't well on the weekend but he lied :lol:) He was fine as soon as the boys left..
We only had a few tears the first couple of days and today none at all :)

well Jack is in his 2nd week of kindy he had a 6 day break from last week, and all I got was a see ya mum and a blow kiss today...he is loving it, making friends this morning he had 5 little boys all vying for his attention jack didn't know which way to go LOL
DD had best start today and her first day is Thursday too. She starts at 9.55am, they've staggered all the start times. She gets a Yr 6 buddy as well. The kindies finish earlier at 2.45pm for the first term. DD is so excited and everything is ready. We bought her stationery as a pack from the school and there's no Big W shopping for uniforms here. Even the socks have the school colored stripes. Let's just say I walked out of the uniform shop over $300 poorer... At least the backpack and stuff was included, I guess. This is a public school too.
Mrsmac would it make a difference that it was only one teacher doing it? Cos he said I was welcome to sit up the back and wait if I wanted to be sure my child was safe, or I could go to the staff room. I just sat up the back and read my iPhone lol. It was only for about 15mins. The first 15mins was questions for me.
Eta: wow Jennifer that's expensive! I spent about $90 on bag, library bag, hat, shirt and shorts with the emblem. Then I bought plain shirts, shorts and socks at big w.
We haven't had to pay for equipment yet.. Will no doubt get hit with a fee first up. We haven't had to buy any books or pencils or anything.
:o Luckily we can sneak a few Lowes/BigW items in but I think I might let DH know that he needs to pick up an extra client this week to cover uniforms.:
We did the best start assessment this morning also and off to school at 10am Thursday - I'm quietly freaking out - it seems that my son who just turned 5 3 weeks ago will be one of the youngest - I was thinking - geez these kids are so big next to him today.
Fingers crossed he will settle in and his personality shine through, all I can hope for is for him to be really, really happy there.
Not even going to deny the fact that there will be tears - lots mainly from me
We do it one on one Liz but I'd say its because it was a man. Sadly male teachers have to be soooo careful that they don't leave themselves open to allegation etc its really unfair.

Yep, male kindy teacher :) There's another male teacher there too, not sure if he's the other kindy teacher tho. Our school is a split site.. so we only have K-2 at our site.. total of about 4-5 classrooms. We're having one kindy class and one kindy/1 combined.. where there'll only be a handful of kinders in that class. I have mixed feelings if DS gets put into the combined class. I think I'd prefer he just stayed with the majority of his year.. not just a few. Altho it probably doesn't really matter at this age hehe. It could be a good thing academically I guess? *shrug* Depends how they set up the class I spose.
We have a male kindy teacher at DD's school. You'd think he was a lottery prize the enthusiasm with which the principal told us! LOL
Jen it is like a lottery prize!!!! i went out for lunch with girls I used to teach with and the ones that are still at the school said they now have no men at all there and there are nearly 300 kids so not a small school.
Liz- I understand your mixed feelings about a K-1, if they put him in it it means they think he is mature and independent. They usually try to mix the kindies together for sport/music etc so that they are all getting to know each other as a grade .
Ds1 started prep today.
What's a best start? Is that a NSW thing?
Its NSW and only in some schools atm.

Well, DS got off to school just fine this morning I think the process they have now is really good. I didn't see any kids upset. We've all been back and forth to the school so much now with story time sessions last year and the best start interview on Tuesday, it hasn't been an overwhelming 'big' thing to start school. I do think I'll miss him tho as time goes on. I'm used to him going to preschool for only 2 days, so all 5 days will make me miss him I think :(

not overly impressed, my phone was on the wrong year, so here i was thinking today was the 4th, its not, he starts tommorow, he dosent seem to care either way!
not sure how he will go as we moved here as his old kindy were starting there orientation, and the new kindy had just finnished theres, so he missed that whole process.
We went fine too. She's tired now though and hot! They had staggered starting times and morning tea for the parents afterwards. No tears, a bit quiet this morning but quite bubbly for about 5 mins when I picked her up.
It's my DD1's big day tomorrow - I have laid out the clothes and started preparing the lunchbox. I think I am more nervous than she is!

My little man is all tucked up in bed and meant to be going to sleep before his big day tomorrow.
I can hear giggles through the wall so I think it's a good thing that tomorrow is only a half day lol.
I went and bought new school shoes for his brother today and I have learnt a valuable lesson - do not put off buying school shoes until the day before school starts. All the styles you want will be sold out and the shops will be crowded with other parents in the exact same place as you *doh*. Y had his heart set on sparkly black shoes but he had to settle for Clarks.
I'd better get some bread out of the freezer for tomorrow's lunch and turn my alarm on......
Dd starts tomorrow too.
I can't get my head around it, so worried I'm going to forget something (I already forgot to pay the fees last Monday).
So she's wary and I'm anxious.

I've been the Mum who turns up with lunch during class and has to rush home for the permission slip more than once.
My DD1 had her first day on Friday and I spent a lot of Thursday night sobbing about it and was convinced I'd be a total wreck Friday morning, I came to realise it was about letting her go, letting her 'grow up', turns out I was fine in the morning.

It dawned on me tonight that this is going to be my life for the next 12+ years... thinking about lunches and school uniforms every sunday night LOL. *sigh*
As for forgetting stuff.. I haven't had much to remember yet... except that Wednesday is library day... so he'll need his library bag! This is probably where getting to know a few parents would be handy.
I forgot I needed to take up DS1s trackable pants and had thought he probably wouldn't need them til at least Autumn. They're 6 inches too long but that was the smallest size
So I was horrified to wake up freezing this morning complete with car windows frosted.
Forecast is for 22 here so hopefully he won't be too cold by recess when they are outside.
Yeah it's 18 here at the moment. We only have shorts and tshirt. Uniform shop is open monday afternoons.. Might get him a jacket. He'll survive tho, they'll be allowed to run today.. They weren't letting them run in the heat. Would love to know how to stop 5yo's running??? Lol.
I packed her school jacket in the bag this morning and we got to walk to school because of the cooler weather - yay!
Good luck to all the ACT kids who start this week. It feels like we're already into a new routine here, like we've been doing it for ages. Except for the wad of permission slips and newsletters that came home on Friday. And the bday invitation for this weekend. Someone's parents ate organised!
What's been especially good for me is that I already seem to know a fair few other parents through preschool and just generally. I love that we have gone to her community school and are already a part of that community. Settling in is important for parents too! I met some others at the morning tea and it's really nice to have others to chat to during waiting times.
Yeah I know a couple of parents from preschool, and I've met a couple of new mums already that seem quite nice. So I'm feeling a bit more settled in myself ;) We find out this afternoon who has been selected for the composite class.
Must say I'm enjoying the peace & quiet at the moment :) Am just going to get some stuff ready for dinner, then going out for lunch. Aaaah... lady of leisure once again hahaha.
