Fleur, I was thinking of the Ameda Purely yours. I've found them on the net for $229 which I thought was pretty good value. You said you went through the valves. Did you buy more of them online too? Thanks for the advice on the second let down. I'll stay on for longer and see how I go.

Melbel, I guess whether you buy or hire depends on how long til you wean. I;ve found the ameda purely yours for $229. And it's about $45 per week to hire say a symphony, so if you are going to be pumping for at least another 6 weeks it might be more economical to buy another pump?
has anyone tried the lactation cookies? How did you find them?
I've also upped my motilium to 3, 3 times a day so I'll see if that helps.

the Medela pumps are supposed to have a 12 month warranty - it might be time to ring fisher and paykel healthcare (who distribute medela) and get grumpy!

Yup Fleur tried all the usual, new valves etc etc.....just got SFA suction....plus it is not always tripping over from phase one to phase two so I think something more sinister is going on......definitely a grumpy phonecall is in order methinks......at least it is still under warranty......grrrr....manual pumping sucks!!

Mamspice, $229 is about what I paid for mine on eBay (new) - definitely the best value I have seen.
Mine died after about 6 - 7 months, I really should have caused a stink but couldn't find my proof of purchase.
Let me know if you end up getting it cause you can have my spare parts (actually, you can have my whole thing, I just dont' have a motor :p)
The valves, you can get online direct from Ameda but there is a pharmacy near me that will order them in for you, and saves you postage.
Once I've finished pumping I was going to put all my bits & pieces on offer here, so let me know if you want anything, or more detail ;)

Melbel, I agree with Mama, if you're going to pump for more than another couple of weeks it's better to buy another pump... but I would definitely make that grumpy call. I wonder if I had, even without POP I might have got something :dunno: probably too late now.

Open it up (the whole front clips open) and give the big white membrane a clean and check that it's sealing well too.
And then make the grumpy phone call! The thing is sold as suitable for full-time use - it's not as though you bought a light duty pump and trashed it.

Thanks for that idea KMN...took the faceplate off and there is a split in the large membrane.......no wonder I couldnt get any suction.......grumpy phonecall coming up in the morning I tells ya!!!!
At least I know its not just me now......

Hopefully they can send you a replacement large membrane and you can be back sucking again! The refusing to switch to full suck is I think related...

I have to send it back to them for replacement...damnit.....so still have to hire a pump while they fix the damn thing...not happy I tells ya.....Oh and they tried to tell me that part was covered under warranty so I cracked it with them...the manual states what isn't covered and thats not listed as one of them so they can go jump....

That's a bummer. I know it would be an expedition for you, but I think their head office is in Ringwood - maybe call them again and see if you can bring the pump in and have the part fitted while you wait?

Well, I have dropped my morning pump... so I am down to one a day, and getting excited at the thought of finishing up soon (and a little bit sad too which seems strange).
It has increased the volume of my evening pump but I guess that should settle in a day or two.
Melbel, hope you're having some luck with your pump.
Mamaspice, basically just the pump parts, flanges & bottles, AFAIK all the Ameda pump parts are interchangeable, so it doesn't matter what bits you have, if it's an Ameda pump they should fit. I also have a few spare lines, valves & bits that I kept as sapres, I really seemed to go through the valves & made sure i had at least 2 on hand in the end.

A quick question for those who have EEd for older babies. My DS is almost 9 months, and I'm really unsure as to how much EBM to give him each day. I'm getting from 550-600mL per day, and I have been giving him 3 bottles of 200mL. However, now that he's at the age where you start to offer food first, then the milk, it's becoming trickier to know how much to give him. I've been giving him 100mL, then another 50 if he wants it, then more if he wants it. But it's hard to know if he actually wants it, or is just happy enough to drink it. If he was on the breast it would be a lot more dictated by him.
So my question is, as you approached the latter part of your expressing experience, what kind of amounts were you giving your babies, and how did you know they were getting enough.

I have found Connor will still set the pace. Like today for example I gave him 200mls instead of the 150 to see if he needed more than I was giving him....he was finished at the 150ml mark and threw the bottle away...LOL! I just try and be guided by him....if he sculls the bottle I offer a bit more, sometimes he wants it, someimes not, sometimes he doesn't even finish what is in the bottle first time round. I think he is starting to drop the bedtime feed becaus he not drinking very much at all at this one anymore....sculls his lunchtime feed though and still polishes off a full solids lunch...go figure!
I also have to add that Connor was always on the low side of normal in terms of volume...he never took more than 180mls at feed ever...

Same as Melbel said - if Pie wanted her full bottle she would have it, if not then she would ditch it. At 9 months she was still having 4 or 5 bottles a day, easy, as for how much, she never did take regular set amounts. So I just offered it, and if she wanted it she drank it :p
FWIW she is STILL having up to 3 full bottles a day (of cow's milk). I have no doubt if I had been BF she would still be night feeding, because that is when she has most of her milk. She still eats fine through the day & is starting to drop her daytime bottle (she would normally have it when she's going to bed, but is starting to push it away).
