Well I got an apologetic email from SIL (apologising for both the email and not giving a date for dinner), reiterating that they'd like to have us over to their place (although not specifying anytime soon!).
I guess I should be thankful for at least the fact it appears she is definitely on my wave-length and I can get along with her. We can't 'manage' our emotional other-halves, but what do you do!
Just a thought but maybe after your (and your DP's) refusal to "bite" at the shock of the news, your MIL told your BIL about breaking the news to you and DP about their marriage? Maybe the BIL feels awkward and is delaying the inevitable?
Coming from a family where there are major issues between DP and his brother, it sort of changed the dynamics after we had DS in January. It was like they had this opportunity to mend things without really making a massive effort...sorry i am having trouble explaining it right..it was like they reached out to each other without realising it...the feeling was palpable while I was in hospital.. I hope this happens for your DP and his brother... the realisation that "family" takes on a whole new meaning ;) let us know how it all goes.
Yeah, I mentioned to DP that we needed to give them a gift and let them know we knew very soon, before MIL has a chance to say to BIL "Oh, but I told them three months ago". :rolleyes:
We've gotten the card and will get the gift voucher this weekend. I might suggest that we drop it around this weekend as well.
And I'm hoping their new baby might make BIL realise the importance. Altho it took DP a couple of years for that to finally sink in from his side, so I'm not holding my breath!
Good thinking, it's prolly what I'd end up doing as well.
What made the difference I think was that my BIL was brave enough to show up at the hospital and sincerely congratulate DH...i think my DH knew that took a lot of 'face' to do and he appreciated it.
Just occured to me as well it's a great thing you're doing keeping in touch with your SIL on a regular basis because then when she's about due or has any news (or if you haven't heard from her or BIL) it won't look out of the ordinary if you were to "pop by" or text to see how things are going...that way you can get in early for the congratulatory celebration in case MIL or BIL forget to message you about the birth (and is easier to go to hospital rather than wait for an invite to the house)...sorry if it sounds like my imagination is running away with me here!
I just also am aware of how important it is to keep relationships going for the little ones' sake as I didn't have that when I was growing up.
and BTW love the update on the current wardrobe for your DD! what a good match! love it! fashionista you've got there!
