Well DH is away and has been calling nearly every night. He is really missing the girls and with my pevis the way it is (Yep it sure is hell with 2 toddlers on my own!! MD You know how bad it was with a school age!!) he wishes he was home. I am coping better than I thought I would but when he gets home I dont think I will be doing ANYTHING!!
-
Aw Ali, I'm sure he would wish he was at home even if it wasn't for your pelvis LOL. I did a whole lot of nothing when mine got home too LOL. How long until he's home?
-
30/4. too blooming long!! He has done a request for leave for 13th 14th 15th march so he might be home for my birthday if it get approved.
-
Welcome punkin, I hope you get somewhere nice to move too.... I love Darwin and Cairns myself but been RAAF you cant get Cairns ( which is sooooo much nicer than brownsville ;) )But you could go darwin but whatever you do try not to live in RAAF Base or HMAS Coonawarra ( which has had a name change to defence berrima (sp?) If we ever went back we would only ever go HMAS Larrakeyah it great there...
Ali how long DP been away for and is he on course or is it deployment ? as if it a course then he is entilaled to reunion travel after 2 mths of been away which the army will pay for... or they will pay for you and you children to go to him.... get him to ask his CO ( sorry only know the navy term but his boss )about it ....
Well as for me, well as some of you know I am no longer a defence wife and haven been for about 2yrs now, but it soooooo very weird as I am kinda missing it, I miss been posted around ( I know weird ) I miss been able to say lets move to Darwin or Cairns and having BHL, been able to say ok I will ask the boss, I should be happy that BHL is out but now he is in the mines I am only seeing him for 5 days, and he is away for 2 weeks, I miss cheep rent free moves and the perks... I miss feeling like BHL's job is safe, I am so sicj of worring about if he will be lossing his job any day, and feel real guilty that I kinda want him too so that he might re join.. I havent told BHL any of this as he is happy to be out ( well I think he is ) he is always saying that he doesnt want to go back so who am I to tell him to rejoin.... I guess I will just have to learn to deal with it, should be happy with what I have should be happy that we are living in my home state near my family, happy that the kids will not have to move about and make new friends all the time....
anyhow thats enough dribble from me...

Welcome to the nuthouse Punkin! lol
-
Punkin, to make your lives easier, you need to make sure you are 'in the system' as a defacto/married (ie "dependent" urgh hate that word) with your DP. Otherwise the posting thing could become horribly complicated, it affects your entitlements to housing, removals, and airfares (either remote locality entitlements or in the sad event of the death of an immediate family). Like everything in Defence, it might turn out to be either a long and convoluted process or a short and easy process, so don't leave it too late if you haven't already.
-
Get your paperwork-filling-out hand ready then LOL!
-
Punkin - As Anna said, welcome to the nuthouse!!! And be prepared to hurry up and wait!! Most of the defence partners I have met have been through our normal daily life, not army organised events. We have only been to one family thing with DH's unit, and most of them are single guys. I would have to say one of the only ones that I see deliberately would be Anna, everyone else is at things I would go to anyway.
MD is soooooooooooo right about things either taking ages or being really quick!! DH's acceptance was a long drawn out process, but posting was about 2 weeks from finding out to moving!! That was a huge shock!!
Tali - DH is on course. He has spoken to his Seargant who asked why he didn't go for the public holidays and when he said that those dates include my birthday he said fair enough. so lets hope that the paperwork is done fast on this one!! DH left on the 1st of Feb.

I have never seen this thread!!!
Well, hi! My DH is RAAF and has been for 20 years now. We are currently in Canberra, but have been since just after DS1 was born - I am quite happy to stay here because this is the life I know now with children. We are originally from Ballarat, Vic - and before here lived in Melbourne for 4 years, Darwin, Wagga, Canberra before that.
Um, DH is a project mgr - civil engineer by trade - he travels weekly to visit project sites/tender boards etc and on avg is away 3 nights per week - hard work for me! He has been away months at a time several times, and often I think that is easier than travel every week because you just get a routine and do everything cos you have to!
I dont have any family here which is hard - no babysitters I can guilt - honestly we dont get much alone time without the kids - but that is our life!
Will pop back in later when I recover from my blabbing :redface:

Hi girls,
Punkin, welcome to the gypsy life :D I'm glad that you're so easy going about moving cause that helps so much when you're an Army wife :D
Ali, I have everything crossed for you that they approve your dh's leave quickly. At least he'll then get to be home for your birthday. Jeremy's going to miss mine for the 2nd year :(
Well, only 6 weeks till Jeremy returns to the country . I can not wait. Neither can he. He's been struggling so much recently especially now that Peanut can be felt and seen externally. I love it so much, but I always feel bad about how much he's missing out on. Ah well, he'll be home with 10w to enjoy still.
Jeremy's due for a posting at the end of 2010 when he returns from his next o/s trip. We think we will ask for either Townsville or Brisbane this time. Time to strech our family wings from the safety of family close by and a city we know really well, although I am originally from Townsville ;)
Talk later ladies
 YAY for Military wives :D If only our lives were as glamourous as that show ;)

Hi Girls,
Just saw this thread and thought I'd drop in and say Hi, I'm so glad to have seen this thread so hope no-one minds?
We are a defence family (ARMY Infantry) currently living in Brisbane. This is our second stint in Brissy, before that we were at singleton in NSW as DH was a trainer. DH has been in for 7 year this year, 3 OS deployments so far and another one to the ghan in NOV this year with a month training in Germany first....Not 100% confirmed but highly possible. He is trying out for SF in march so hopefully he will barrier and get in there.
I'm 26 and we have a 1 year old son who atm is driving me crazy:rolleyes: with all the away time it sure gets that way doesn't it!!
Anyway my time is limited on here before DS wakes so I'd better get a wriggle on.
Have a great day all.:)

Hi from Adelaide :D We are a RAAF family currently based at Edinburgh after posting in November 08. Hubby is coming up to 20 years service at the end of the year so we're starting to think about our options and whether to stay in or get out. I am originally from Adelaide so happy to be home but also missing my space at the same time, lol.
-
Hi all
Just wondering if I can join you guys, my DH is in the RAAF. We are based in Adelaide although we live a long way away from the base so I dont have any support from other RAAF mums. Sometimes I need a chance to vent and my friends just dont understand. Would be lovely to have some defence family support!
-
Welcome girls!! There are a fair few of us BB DF mums aren't there
DH came home for the weekend but left again yesterday, back down to Wodonga. 6 weeks till he gets home for good!!! When we are due for our next posting 7RAR is supposed to be moving to Adelaide, and of course with every RAR unit comes some of at least one support unit, so DH will put preferences in for that.
Girls in Adelaide - Kelly (Bellybelly) is wanting to do a meetup in the morning on the 25th. There is a message in the messages from BellyBelly section.

Hi girls.
Welcome to the new Defence wives :D the more the merrier I say
Well Jeremy comes home from the Solomons in three weeks. I can not wait! It's been terrible. He's so ready to come home now. I have had to stop counting down for him cause he says it just reminds him of how long he's still got to go. He's going to get a HUGE suprise when he sees me. We had been doing video calls, but haven't done one in about a 4w and Jeremy doesn't want to do one now cause it makes him frustrated that he can see me but can't touch me or hug me or feel Peanut moving about. *sigh* be soooo glad when he's home!
Got a listing of his unit in Australia's excercises for the rest of the year and they are going on a 6w excercise on the 20th of June. I'm due on the 17th! So, he's all ready contacted them and said he's hoping they don't make him go. They told him they'd sort it out when he gets home. He's also going on a 10 day excercise in May. He'll miss our last two pre-natal classes. Grrrr, sometimes I don't like being an army wife. But then I realise I knew what I was getting myself in for when I married Jeremy so I can't really complain! But I can winge sometimes :D
-
Hi Tara, I'm sorry to hear that your hubby isn't having a good time in the Solomon's. My hubby loved his deployment over there and was disappointed when his time was up and he was sent home. Hubby kept saying that if the ADF flew us over there then things would be perfect. We both really got involved in the local community though. I did quite a bit of fundraising from home for local solomons families and hubby was heavily involved with the local community over there, eating with them and experiencing day to day life like the locals. It's now been 4 years since he was in the Solomons but we still keep in touch with the families that he met over there:D
-
Thanks for the welcome ladies! :D
 Tara. I feel your pain re: DH being away close to babies birth. DH was in townsville for most of October last yr ( I was due December 24) and then came home and found out he was going to Perth for end of nov early dec. I was so paranoid that I would go into labour early with good reason coz Lachlan arrived on the 10 December. Luckily DH made it home with a few days to spare but he didn't get any of the jobs done that I set for him :D. Oh well guess those cupboards wont be painted! We got the car seat installed the day before my waters broke, hows that for timing! It was funny coz the guy at the RAA was saying that I still had a while to go because I was still so high. I got the same comment from the lady at the supermarket the same day and lo and behold my waters broke that night!
I also dont like being a defence wife sometimes but yes I did marry him when he was already in the RAAF but I still like to complain. I really shouldn't though, DH does not go on as many trips as alot of the men in here. He is starting a job in a workshop in July which means little to no trips which I am really thrilled about. Be nice to have a break from it all!
